I get a 50-minute bus ride to bring my rats to Ambivet Ilkeston and I wouldn't ever take them anywhere else! They see Yvette or Adam and I can't recommend them enough. There aren't many vets who know about rats so it's great to have such experienced vets for my boys. One of my boys has had a chronic lung problem for nearly 12 months now and I really don't think he would still be here if it weren't for their care. The vets are always happy to discuss potential treatments with... me and they always answer my questions and let me make decisions for my pets after informing me of the options. Other vets I've tried can be a bit patronising and treat me like I don't know anything (i'm hoping to train as a vet nurse so I do know some things!), or that I shouldn't bother with treatment because they're 'only rats'. I don't get that attitude from the staff here and I really would recommend them. The prices are good too and receipts show you exactly what medication costs what which is really useful when planning out vet savings (especially if, like me, you tend to need the same medications quite often) See More Read Less

We have used AmbiVet on a couple of occasions and we have now heard the same stories from friends also. AmbiVet may be ok if you have a cat or a dog; however they were completely useless when it came to assessing the health of our guinea pigs. One of our guinea pigs died a few days after visiting these vets, and we were then told by another veterinarian that AmbiVet should have diagnosed the guinea pig quite easily based on the symptoms that he did have. The guinea pig had a very common illness that was easily treatable and that our quite young guinea pig would have had a good chance of survival with the correct treatment. We have also heard very similar bad stories about AmbiVet from friends and pet stores, regarding their poor diagnosis or inability to properly assess very small animals. Also, these vets seem to be quite expensive compared to other vets, which makes it all the more upsetting when they don't even spot an obvious illness and provide treatment that would have saved the animals life.
