The vet waffled, kept disappearing for long minutes at a time to "consult with colleagues", and never answered a question without mentioning half a dozen possibilitied. Our cat was clearly in distress (with a blocked urethra), and we were given a choice of £1000+ "gold-plated" treatment whose prognosis was, we were *eventually* told, "not great". Or euthanasia... but when I asked how much putting a cat down cost, that again resulted in him disappearing for five minutes, typing interminably on a computer, and then a list of multiple options. Really, I'd had enough at that point. I knew we were going to have to put the cat down, but I was damned if I was going to let this vague, waffly person without a skerrick of empathy in his body do the deed. We went down the road to Vets4Pets and received precise information, clear choices and excellent personal service from people who actually cared. The difference between the two was stark, and we'll never go back to Oak House vets again. I also want to emphasise: of course we were upset at what was coming the cat's way, but it wasn't our emotional state that made us infuriated with the lackadaisical vagueness we were confronted with here. Seriously: if you can't quote a price for putting a standard moggie down off the top of your head, you're doing it wrong. Read Less

We have been with this veterinary practice well before Andrew with Martin Grace and they are excellent practitioners. Both groups over 30 years have been very supportive. Jennifer Goode treated our dog with such good professionalism, care and attention to detail. She was an amazing practitioner, dedicated and applied good knowledge to practice. She understood her clients needs and fears. She helped us with excellent advice appropriately decide how to help our dog with an illness which was very unexpected. Andrew's practice is outstanding , caring and empathetic. I highly recommend them. Hilary Righton Read Less

Well, where do I even begin?! My dog developed a rash/skin infection in November, I took him here as it's his regular and registered Vets. Saw our usual Vet, Angelic, who I found caring, compassionate and knowledgeable. Diagnosed probable allergy and recommended a strict diet (Chicken Only) regular bathing and a course of antibiotics. All is going well. Angelic then leaves the company (I understand why now) and we are passed from one vet to another who kept giving us contradictory information regarding medication and diet, after a month and around 3 more visits, I got fed up as we had no idea what to actually do as was told chicken only, then chicken worst thing, fish only then he needs these tablets, then another type. I was frustrated so gently pointed out all the contradictory information we had received and was told by the centre manager, Andrew, we would only see him in order for his treatment to be consistent. Fair enough. Blood tests carried out, several weeks later told its a dust mite/house mite allergy. Finally making progress after a month or so. Second blood test suggested to be more accurate. Well 6 weeks later, 2 further consultations where we are basically told nothing by 2 different Vets (Not Andrew as we were told) and after making numerous telephone calls, we are told they never even sent the blood off for the second test and would need to take another sample, which I was told by Adam (No idea who that is!) we would need to pay for again. Absolutely ridiculous. By this point we had spent nearly 1000, paid for out of our own pocket as require upfront payment before insurance can be claimed, took them weeks upon weeks to complete the paperwork for us in order to even begin the claim. Insurance company required information from Andrew regarding dogs condition which I was informed by an unnamed member of staff had sat on his desk for around 3 weeks before a 2 line e-mail was sent to the insurers. I found Andrew the very few times we dealt with him (Despite being told by him be our new regular vet) arrogant, rude and, based on being unable to keep his word to us, untrustworthy. (All my personnel opinion of course) Today finally had enough, claimed a refund for the tests they never sent off for (yet we paid for) and switched my dog to another vet to continue his treatment. Sadly, some wonderful staff there who I feel are wasted working where they do. Read Less

I have always used Oak House Vets at the Carlton branch. I had to take my Westie (Peaches) to the Plains Road branch on Saturday for an urgent appointment. The staff were absolutely fantastic with Peaches who was in a lot of pain and unable to urinate. The Vet Angele was so thorough and explained each step as to what she proposed to do to help Peaches, as well as support me as her owner. I was updated at each stage & felt overwhelmed at Angele's professionalism & expert advice. Angele and Liz were looking after Peaches and treating for 3 hours even after the practice had closed. I cannot thank them enough for going that extra mile in my eyes in caring for my best friend. Although they only think they are doing their jobs, I believe they are truly special for what they have done for us. I would definitely recommend Oak House Vets without a doubt. I was with this vet for over a year and I always thought yes they are more expensive than other vets but they are local and convenient. But I decided to leave due to the fact near enough every time I went in there was someone different on reception, to be honest never knew what they were doing, or anything about anything, I was part of the pet health club which included flee and wormer, boosters and reduction in prices and a free 6 monthly check up. So you would think you get a better service but unless I asked or arranged to collect wormers and flees or arranged my own 6 monthly checks they did nothing so they don't provide any of this its as if, if you remember we'll give it you. I have a greyhound which are renowned for bad teeth, my boy has amazing teeth for a 6 year old the odd one receding but nothing major, they insisted I had 6 out !! at cost of 600 that's with my health club discount. Since I've seen the vet I went to my local retired greyhound centres own vet he said he's appalled that they would to take such good teeth out of him being for a greyhound they are amazing, at most need laser cleaning. Now with a new vet and he agrees just a good clean and keep up brushing they'll be fine for a year or two at least. After leaving them a month later I receive a letter saying I owe them 62 for boosters, flee and wormer which I was disgraced at baring in mind I paid health club for a year and didn't get my fist injection free when you start. I tried returning the flee and wormer tablets to reduce my bill. they didn't come out the box and were in my kitchen cupboard for three weeks, they refused to take them back because they don't know how they've been stored, I said same way you do in a cupboard, if that's the case the last tablet out the 6 months worth how do I know its going to be affective so I should get new ones every month not 6 monthly, baring in mind they are always out of stock of them. So my conclusion is they are over priced and all there staff move round to much between practices you cant build up a relationship or a trust in one vet and you have to start all over again if your going back regular because it wont be the same vet, if you want the same vet you have to go to the practice they are at that week and there reception staff need training on there products and services not just to book consultations and take payments. My advice go to a vet that has regular staff are organised and you can build up trust in and were you wont get frustrated. Read Less

DO NOT USE THIS VET. Our cat had a black substance on her underside. We bought a cone so she didn't lick it and tried to clean it off ourselves. Some came off but in the end we thought it best to get the hair shaved off by a vet. I rang Oak House Veterinary Centre and was told that this could probably be done within a consultation (30.90) When i was seen by the vet i was told we NEEDED two other members of staff for the shaving of a cat - 25 x 2 Blood test 30-40 Blood test results to be sent away and sent back 50 THEIR recommended brand of Flea treatment 30 (The Frontline which we already had didn't work apparently) THEIR recommended brand of Flea Spray for our house 35 Added to the consultation cost the final bill presented to me after 5 mins was around 240. I was able to find another vets the same day and they shaved the affected area all within the consultation for around 30. They mentioned the blood tests and flea treatment as they should but said as the cat did not seem in any distress it was not necessary. Problem solved and most importantly, a happy cat. Oak House Veterinary Centre clearly jumped on the opportunity to up-sell products and services that were simply not required. I imagine if I was a less assertive person I might have been guilt-tripped into paying in full. Avoid this vet at all costs. There are plenty of other good vets in Nottingham.Read Less

I'm shocked and appalled by what I experienced at this practice and would strongly advise anybody to go elsewhere. I took my cat in because she had a sniffly nose and a cold. The vet inspected her and said she'd got a gum infection and needed to have ALL of her large teeth removed, leaving her with just a few front ones (she's only 3 years old). She gave me a quote of over 350 to have this done. I wasn't keen on the idea of my cat living with no teeth so I took her to another vet for a 2nd opinion. I didn't tell them I had already had the above diagnosis. They told me she's got a mild gum infection and had strong, clean teeth and a week's course of antibiotics would clear it up. I paid 21 for the consultation and medicine and a week later the infection had started to clear up and now it is totally gone. I believe Oak House Veterinary practice over-charge and emotionally black-mailed me to get me to pay a large amount for traumatic surgery which would have a life-long impact on my cat, just so they could get more money. I am truly appalled and shocked at this and am furious that they could have convinced me to go ahead with the procedure and my poor cat would be chewing with her gums for the rest of her life. To make matters even worse, to treat the cold I was charged over 90, however my cat recovered after 2 days without taking any of the medicine. Absolutely disgraceful. Appalling practice which in my opinion does not have the welfare of animals as a priority. I will never go back. Read Less
