Camlas Veterinary Practice

Welshpool, Powys
General Info
Camlas Petcare Vets is an independent, traditional, family run practice that started in 1990. Uniquely in our area we provide a purely small animal service treating cats, dogs, rabbits, birds and small furries, with the focus on high quality care preventative health services.
Our dedicated experienced team of qualified vets and nurses is friendly and welcoming, and we enjoy getting to know all our clients individually. Our flexible appointment system allows you to see the same vet to provide continuity of care. We understand your pet is an important member of your family and we aim to make their visits to us as enjoyable as possible.
We are pleased to operate our own ‘out of hours emergency service’ as we place great importance on knowing your animal and its medical history. The main practice telephone number will always put you through to a person to take your call 24 hours a day (no answerphones).

We have a holiday home in Llainfair Caereinion and I had to rush my dog here on a Sunday night out of hours. I was met there by a very reassuring and calming vet named Louise Robin who helped me to calm down. The care she provided Coco was second to none! She kept Coco over night to run tests and monitor her and kept me informed. It was confirmed that Coco had bloat and needed emergency surgery. I was allowed to go back to the surgery to sit with her until she was going in. Louise was very supportive and explained the risks etc. Coco had the extensive surgery and I was allowed back to visit her and bring my 3 other dogs to see her as they wouldn't eat or anything without Coco. Once they saw her, they were fine. The care provided by the vets and nurses was outstanding and Coco pulled through, despite the slim odds. I now use Camlas all of the time, despite it being half an hour away. They are an amazing team who have looked after my pack well, going that extra mile for us. They are also very affordable. They did a scan which cost £150 that I'd had carried out in Shrewsbury (and was told there was nothing wrong with Coco except I was being neurotic!) that cost almost £800!! Cannot recommend this place enough. I've included photos of Coco when she was poorly, during her stay and after. Needless to say, you wouldn't know there was ever anything wrong now. Read Less

Traveling to Wales on Thursday evening, our dog fell ill with a recurrence of a serious problem that we hoped had been cured about a month before. We arrived as they opened the following morning. Both the receptionist, Sylvia and the vet Anna (and a Vetinary Nurse whose name I didn’t catch), couldn’t have been more helpful and caring. Anna was very thorough and ever so helpful and we left with everything completely taken care of. I cannot recommend this vets highly enough! Read Less

My dog became seriously ill last Thursday and was rushed to the vet at Camlas surgery. As can be imagined I was incredibly upset and stressed but the staff were amazing, both with comforting me and their treatment of Charlie. He was an inpatient until yesterday evening, having lost the use of all bodily functions and mobility,he needed critical nursing and medical care for the whole time he was there. During his stay the two locum vets Wendy and John Barton were absolutely marvellous; they went above and beyond the call of duty. They discussed every aspect of his care with me, explaining all treatments and reasons for them, they were brilliantly reassuring and I felt we couldn't have been in better hands. Yesterday evening Anna, senior practice vet, returned to the surgery and following handover with Wendy, called me to discuss Charlie's ongoing treatment and care. She agreed he could spend the night at home and she would reassess this morning. Happily Charlie is home now and although not fully recovered, he certainly presents a much brighter picture than he did on Thursday. The entire experience was traumatic both for Charlie and me, but the friendliness and professionalism of all of the staff who were involved in Charlie's care was second to none and certainly alleviated much of the stress and anxiety associated with such a harrowing time. The fact that I know the team are on call 24/7 enables me to feel confident in continuing Charlie's care at home.Thank you so much to all of you at Camlas. Read Less

We have only recently transferred our vet care to Camlas and could not be happier with the service we have received. Our dog, Kizzy, requires a monthly injection which is given with no stress to the dog. More recently she was diagnosed very quickly with a bruised tooth that required extraction. The surgery was performed beautifully as when we got Kizzy home it was hard to believe she'd had anything done but in no time at all she was picking up her toys and running around like a mad thing. The prices charged by Camlas are less than half the amount we have been paying at our previous vets. I have no hesitation in recommending Camlas for any of your pet needs. Read Less

We first used Camlas vets about 3 years ago when our dog Whiskey injured his foot. We had recently moved to Llanerfyl so had no knowledge of any vets practices in the area. It was literally a case of we chose the first one in the telephone directory. We very definitely chose the best. Anna and Dave were so good with Whiskey. 12 months later, Whiskey became really ill. Again he was so well looked after and after avery worrying time, Whiskey fortunately made a recovery. We were so impressed by Anna's very caring attitude, she even went the extra mile by phoning us a few times on the Sunday to check on Whiskey. This caring and professional attitude is something we have never had from any other vets practice. Whiskey is very definitely "at ease" with Anna. He isn't the easiest of dogs as he is so vocal. Finally all the staff we have had dealings with are wonderful.Read Less
