Sought a second opinion regarding my cat’s debility. Cat given a drug. Extreme reaction followed (because it was not properly administered). Hours later I phoned and requested emergency attendance. Was told ‘We do not attend emergencies’. Consequently, drove my cat from Edington to Wedmore practice, warning them I was on my way as an emergency ... meantime my cat had hallucinated, broken his back and was in extreme pain. On arrival at Wedmore I had to wait 10 mins or more. By which time my cat was confirmed dead following a car journey which my driver thought for the cat was ‘A journey to hell’. Consequently, I reported the misapplication of the drug by the practice to the appropriate authority. Consequently I consider the Wedmore practice incompetent! Read Less

We have been going to these vets for nearly 8 years, and they have become more and more concerned with financial gain than caring for their customers and animals. Terrible experience recently when they refused to put our very elderly and unwell dog to sleep without us paying the full fee upfront, which they have never asked to do before. Given the sensitivity of this kind of situation, we have always been allowed to leave quietly and pay when we collect the ashes. After being forced to pay a massive consultation fee and fee for the procedure, they refused to cremate her without receiving the full cremation fee upfront. She was, therefore, presumably kept in a freezer for six days. We will never go back to the surgery again. Read Less

I would like to stand up and be counted. There is daylight robbery taking place in this country and Vets, not just Axe Valley, are at the forefront of this crime. Not content with their ludicrously exorbitant 'consultation fee', which comes in at 28/5 minutes, the mark up on the pharma products is nothing short of criminal. They are prepared to write a prescription out, for those who are prepared to go online, but, you've guessed it, they make a charge for that as well. 15! Yes, 15......PER ITEM. As an owner of two ageing cats, I have seen more of these people lately than I normally do. I have a fixed income and insurance won't meet their needs. Axe Valley vets, there doesn't seem to be much between any of them, are always there to help, by prescribing Metacam, at 5 times the price it is on the internet. And those internet sites are still making money! Think about it for a minute. Even common, antibiotics are 2-3 times more expensive than the internet. I'm disgusted and ashamed of the cartel/monopoly being acted out by British vets because they have you by the short and curly emotional heart strings. They are abhorrent. Read Less

These vets have been extremely helpful, professional and caring. The examination room is always clean and well looked after, which is something seeing how much my many animals make a mess of it. They are very knowledgeable in my experience, have a wide understanding about alternative treatments and more conventional medicines, give good advice, give good aftercare and are quick to provide care, perform operations etc. They are able to deal with farm animals, conventional pets and exotic pets but you may have to visit one of the sister practices in a different area for unconventional problems. This has never been a problem though. All in all, very impressive. Read Less
