Absolutely the best vets we have ever used. Always at the end of the phone if needed and out of hours service is great. we visted this practice for our dog Brodie a cocker spaniel for her booster she is fourteen years old and on the 9 of september will be fifteen and is always treated with respect at island vets at Springwell lane balby as i have used this practice with all three of my dogs and have always been looked after ps as well as my dogs so what does that tell you . if possible i would leave a minis rating,after reading some of the reviews,i agree with they are very over priced and its all about the money with them,my poor cat was very ill and all they wanted to do at first was talk about the cost,and then see what the problem was with her,but sadly she passed away under there so called attention!!! and still had a bill to pay of 288.00 pounds to find out they left her for some 15 minutes,and when returning to her,she had passed away,but if a animal is in such poor health and conduction,why was it left alone!!!! after nearly 2 weeks im still waiting for a answer,i feel there is a lot of negligence at this place,as after speaking to a lot of people and reading the reviews,ive reported them to the VCMS about there costs and there negligence after finding out so much about this vets,would never take a animal there again Read Less

I cannot praise the staff enough, so professional & friendly. I had to have my dog loui put to sleep & it was done with absolute dignity. They allowed us time for lots of cuddles before he passed away. I will always be grateful to each of them for the part they played. I have used this vets for years & I cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you you are all very special people. Is it possible to give no stars? Shame! Practice manager appalling. Very rude and extremely unhelpful. My dog has been under their care for cancer treatment.... There are missing x-rays, a tissue sample from the 21St of December which we were never given the results of, incomplete swab testing..... The list goes on. My current vet has threatened this practice with reporting them to the RCVS. This morning my dog is having CT scans and her original x-rays are needed urgently.... This vet is avoiding giving them to us at all costs... Cover up??! Read Less

This vet use locum vets only, you never see the same person twice, our cat has been going for monthly blood tests since June 2017 and every time we are charged different with some vets having the cheek to charge consultation fees without even examining our cat! I'm in the process of changing vets as not happy at all, a few of the female locum vets are nice but alot do not care and charge as much as possible! Read Less

Change of management has resulted in higher prices and "salesmen" for vets who don't seem to care about the animals like they used to. Been there 15 years and having made numerous claims on insurance payable direct to them with me paying the excess up front, i find that i was recently totally embarassed by the NEW staff insisting that i pay up front for the whole claim. Despite pointing out my 15 years of claiming direct they refused to return my dog until i paid in full. I refused, attempting to pay the 150 excess, as that was all i had but they wouldnt take it insisting i pay it all. I was taken into a back room where the vet introduced me to the new clinical director who said they "always ask for payment up front" (15 years of not asking says different!) and insisted that i do so. I stressed that i only had the 150, that this was not normal practise and to check my files but she was having none of it and would not take my money. Eventually, having said she didnt believe that i had insurance, i had to go all the way home to get my policy. She then accepted my payment and gave me a claim form to complete and return the next day..... EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE ANYWAY !!!! They received the payment from my insurance company within 2 weeks and now they have sent me a letter telling me im not welcome there anymore !!!! I was expecting an apology not a ban !!! For reference - after my excess, this was a 121 claim. In previous years, they have waited for thousands of pounds to be paid direct. Just proves that all they care about is the money! Read Less

If I could leave 0 stars I would these vets would have had my dog put down if it was up to them! All about money that's all they think about they have no love for animals at all, we've recently taken my dog to another vet and he's getting better! They are useless they shouldn't even be open because there's no care for animals what so ever, do not take your pet here! We keep a few chickens in our garden as pets, and these are more than happy to treat our girls, so we've moved our dog treatments over to them too. It's hard to find someone to actually treat a chicken, as other vets either just turn me down flat, or just advise me to put them to sleep, we have money and want our girls treated like any other pet. We have been with Balby Vets for over 2 years. The service they offer is excellent and the staff are lovely. Nothing is too much trouble. I find the vets and nurses very caring toward my boxer Gypsy and she enjoys the visits. If anyone is looking for a vet for their pet I would highly recommend this practice. Happy dog, happy owner! 5* I recently had my dog Joe in who was having really bad abdominal pains, I couldn't be happier with the way he was treat & how I was kept informed every step of the way. The staff were always helpful & pleasant at all times, not like other vets ive taken pets to in the past where all they care about is who's paying the bill at the end. The overall cost of his full treatment & aftercare was very reasonable, Would highly recommend & I will continue to use this vets for all of my dogs vaccinations. Read Less

The young irish vet that works there is second to none. My own vet was closed one weekend shortly before christmas and I was hesitent to ring here as I had used balby vets up until 2 years ago when I became increasingly distressed at the treatment I got from some of the vets there, some of them being very rough with my dog and a couple having porr english, however from the moment I rang it was 100%, I seen to very quick and the vet couldnt have been nicer to me (I was very stressed and worryed) and the care and compassion she showed my dog was lovley. Treatment was brilliant and she updated me regularly on how my dog was doing til I could come fetch her. I'e been back a few times since and seen the irish vet everytime and she is just brilliant, cant recommend enough, my mate now goes to her too. I take just one star away as the receptionist can be a quite rude. Read Less

Terrible. All about money. No genuine compassion for animals. The receptionists are shirty and rude and extremely cold. Its impossible to get to know the vets as they never stay there more very long before they move off. Treatment is also poor and over priced. Have had several bad experiences here and so I could not get out of this place fast enough. Will never go here again. Read Less

Our dog 'Stella' Has always had digestion problems and started having patches and kept biting at herself so we took her and the vet who had a look explained she had fleas , so we got flea treatment and also a 50 shampoo , But when we had a look at it ourself , there was no sign of fleas and the shampoo did nothing at all.Read Less

I have had to come to this vet a few times to do with my cat "Suzie". And every time i have come here i am greeted in a warm welcoming manner, the staff are great and understand a lot about pets and local people and how sometimes we can have financial difficulties and still need our pets taken care of. hence why i have given 5 stars and a good review.
