Used this vets for nearly 3years while I lived in the uk, my dog was diagnosed with arthiritis while I was over there just before he turned 5, he was put on anti inflamitories and pain killers as you would to help with the pain, made sense at the time he had trouble walking, jumping, playing fetch left him in agony. I moved back to Ireland this month and before I could get a repeat of his medicine they wanted an X-ray to see for themselves how bad he was, today I found out my dog doesn't have an ounce of arthiritis, he never did, he has hip displaysia, and torn ligaments in his knee he may aswell not have an ligaments, he needs an operation to correct his knee, and the likely hood of him needed to have the other knee done as a conciquence to him being left so long without proper treatment is near enough a given, I don't care that the operation(s) are going to cost a lot of money I love my dog I would of done it anyway had he been diganosed properly in the first place, what annoys me is the fact he's been walking around for over a year in agony, mis-diagnosed and mis-treated, the medicine he was given aswell, that causes organ damage, I was never made aware of this only told he would be on it for the rest of his life! Probably would of shortened his life! I'm so lucky I went to my normal vets, I probably wouldn't of figured it out for another few months or years! I would advice everyone to get a second option else where from this vets! They might act like they care but a simple X-ray which should of been routine has left my dog worse off, masked him over with pain killers, even told me the weather will affect him, when I brought him in a couple months ago to say he doesn't seem to be getting any better only worse! I registered my rabbits with this practice when I moved to the area and it was fine at first; the waiting area was relatively civilised and the vets knew enough to help my rabbits. They were willing to order in the Lapinject vaccine, whereas other practices in the area refused to, even though it was considered safer than Cylap, the alternative. However, those vets left- this practice seems to have a high staff turnover, which I assume, is why your animals are not allocated a named vet. A mixed experience followed, depending on the vet. One vet remarked, 'if I treat it, it will cost as much as for a bigger animal such as a dog', that sounds alarm bells about how some of their staff regard rabbits. A female rabbit was sent home without pain relief and with a buster collar after having been neutered- both considered to be cruel. The lady on the 'phone forbade my rabbit from having her bonded partner stay with her whilst in hospital (which is considered cruel unless necessary) because, 'there's nothing wrong with the other rabbit is there'. One vet admitted to knowing nothing about rabbits, yet allowed receptionists to make appointments for them with her. Once when I collected my rabbit, she weighed less than prior to having been admitted and was grinding her teeth in pain- no pain relief had been given to her and the vet had miscalculated the dose of Septrin and had lied to me about having done so. On another occasion the same vet did not admit my rabbit because, 'of the cost to the owner'- my rabbit was insured with Petplan and it is considered to be unprofessional to mention such in the clinical records. Additionally, she prescribed 2mls of recovery liquid feed every two hours for an anorexic rabbit who usually weighed 2.3kg! Unbelievable, but true. During an appointment, I was informed by a vet that a drug commonly used for GI Stasis had not been restocked and that if my rabbit was no better, to take her back and she would be hospitalised. I did, and she saw a different vet again, who informed me that she thought that my rabbit looked cute when she was in pain and responded with, 'that's good' when I told her that my rabbit was not eating, her poo was smaller than normal and that she was grinding her teeth in pain. The vet decided that my rabbit should 'live' in a hutch and that it is too hot for a rabbit inside a house and that must be why my rabbit was sick. She sent my rabbit home without pain relief, so why was I told to take her back? It turns out that that vet was an equine vet! The next day, my rabbit was refused an appointment, 'because we only saw her yesterday didn't we', leaving me to find another vet willing to see her at short notice, despite her not being registered with them- I managed to find a vet, but she did not know anything about rabbits. My rabbit later died in pain, with an intestinal blockage. Abbey does not provide the Filavac vaccine, which evidences how little the management values rabbits. In response to my complaint, I was informed that rabbits should not live in a house because they won't have the opportunity to dig and forage in a house! (They have a digging box and a sand pit...). I did my research before obtaining house rabbits- I contacted the RSPCA, who put me in touch with the RWAF and I visited a member's rabbit at her home. I also became a member and found a rabbit savvy vet who put me in touch with one of his clients who ran a rabbit rescue, prior to moving to N.E.Lincs. My rabbits are insured, neutered and vaccinated. They are now at least 8 years old and binky, so I must be doing something right. It goes without saying that I would not recommend registering rabbits with this practice. Read Less

I have visited this practice over several years with different pets some for check ups and some with heart conditions whilst others have had operations. The care and attention has and is still today, excellent in every respect. The vets explain; every thing . I highly recommend this practice. Read Less

The staff at Abbey Veterinary Practice in Grimsby are absolutely wonderful & have cared for my four legged family members since they became part of my family. Recently one of my dogs became ill so after contacting the practice for help & advice we both came away feeling better. Thankfully the staff know my pets & make them feel at ease as soon as they walk through the door. Their professional attitude ensures me to have confidence in what I'm being told. Knowing that I'm not treated as one of those crazy dog owners & being able to share my concerns with someone who has medical knowledge really helps me to cope. Our miniature dachshund Frankie had her MRI scan and spinal surgery here in February. All the staff were lovely and so helpful during her 6 night stay here. Would definitely recommend this practice ☺ Read Less

After moving home recently, I found myself in a heartbreaking situation regarding my pets (3 Cats, 1 Dog). In my new home. We would be only allowed to keep 1 Dog & 1 Cat. After consulting my husband and going through an horrendous sort of process of elimination (better word/s escape me). With a heavy heart, we decided that my eldest cat (aged 17 or 18) would have to be put to sleep. She was the oldest and in general is not in great health and hasn't been for a couple years on and off. But she had been with me for so long she really was one of the family (it was breaking my heart). And we still had another heart wrenching decision to make. We decided that my youngest cat (aged 3 or 4 and also in good health) would also have to be put to sleep. Now if you're reading this thinking, why would you put a young healthy cat down? Because I'd hate to take her to a rescue centre and have some animal abuser take her (I couldn't live with that). Anyway i phoned 2 or 3 other vets and explained the situation and they wouldn't have a healthy young cat put down (fair enough). Then i phoned Abbey Veterinary Centre and they heard my side of things and agreed to make me an appointment. When i arrived (an emotional wreck) they talked to me and asked if i thought putting her to sleep was the right thing to do? But also said to me that they understood my concerns over her going to someone who would mistreat her. (I really was in two minds at this point and my head was all over the place). Then a young female vet told me that she had been informed of my situation and concerns and she (the vet) would like to take her home and keep in regular touch(so i would know, how she was doing), with my blessing. I felt so overwhelmed and relieved. She seemed like a lovely young lady and i had a good feeling about my cat going to live with her (she is a vet, afterall!). So thank you so, so much to not just the vet, but everyone who dealt with me at Abbeys. You really are a first class outfit and you went well above and beyond your duty of care (If i could give you 10.... well i'd give you 20 stars). Read Less

Fantastic staff always helpful,can be a little pricey but you get what you pay for with skilled reliable vets. They saved our westie Tilly after a bad op else were and got her back to full health thanks to Jacqueline Buck and her staff. I really can not praise them enough. Mrs T Harrison. Read Less

Not good, the company seems to be able to charge whatever it thinks fit regarding preliminary examinations of the persons pets I have just taken my little jack Russell terrier in for examination and after a 7 and a half minute examination, charged the princely sum of 77 ,78 at your Caistor Branch, which equels 7.10 pence per minute o r 466 per hour or 3734.4 per day 26.12408 per week !isn't it we got a grip of these over charging companies, people can not afford such exorbitant charges.Read Less
