Moorland Veterinary Centre

Leek, Staffordshire
General Info
Welcome to Moorland Veterinary Centre. We are a mixed practice (45% Large Animal, 45% Small Animal and 10% Equine) employing ten vets, four qualified nurses, two trainee nurses, four receptionists, a practice manager and a practice administrator.
We aim for a happy, relaxed atmosphere for clients and staff and we are proud of our traditional values. Our dedicated team aim to give clients a friendly service as well as value for money treatment. We are not part of any large veterinary group. Our building is located beside Brough Park Leisure Centre and has ample off-road parking in front of the building. The building is an old vicarage which has been converted.
We are the only veterinary surgery in Leek to cover our own out-of-hours services for registered clients. This means that your animals will be seen by one of our vets in familiar surroundings.

I was born here by section in the middle of the night on a bank holiday Sunday, my mum is still alive, recently had my spay and lumps removed! I'm still alive, my human-mum is a nightmare worrier, kept taking me back worrying and the vets never lose their temper or are rude to her, they put her mind at rest! Anyway, my stitches are out now and mum is relaxed again! But I must add, despite all I have been through, I am happy to trot off with the vets away from my mothers and still go into the vets alone. Why is that, well, obviously I was treated with love, kindness, and reassurance whilst they had me. The one-star reviews, plus the one from Kirsty are rubbish, they should be ashamed of themselves for targeting such a long-established local business! Thanks from the Tuey Read Less

The Practice has really let us down. We have owned our family Labrador for 6 years and Moorland have always looked after her. As a puppy she began to scratch and was diagnosed as being allergic to house mites and has been given 6 weekly injections to combat this. Unfortunately, over the course of a couple of hours our lab developed a cough after taking her for a walk on a Saturday morning. We took her to Moorland vets as I thought she may have swallowed something that stuck in her throat. Unfortunately she wouldn't allow the vet to look inside her mouth and so the vet recommended that if the cough hadn’t gone by Monday we take her back and they would sedate her so they could examine her properly. Monday came and although the cough had subsided she still had a cough. We took her back and waited for a call. At lunch time we were called to say that our dog had been examined and unfortunately a large mass had been found at the back of her throat. I asked if it was cancer and was told that they were 99% sure it was, they were experienced vets and 2 vets had examined her. They were unable to take a biopsy as the mass was located in a part of the throat where access was difficult. As we had pet insurance and due to the dogs age they had brought her round from the anaesthetic. Two small animal hospitals were suggested and we managed to book her in within a couple of days in Derby. This was a distressing time for the family and assumed the hospital would confirm the diagnosis and we would have to make a very upsetting decision. The dogs cough had largely disappeared by Wednesday but we took her. After leaving her for an hour with the hospital we were called back, ready for the decision. The vet asked why she had been referred as he could see no mass or inflammation in the dogs throat and had taken x rays etc, she was fit and well, and had had taken photos of her mouth which we witnessed. We were obviously overjoyed with the outcome. The report from the hospital was sent to Moorland Vets and I called them a couple of days later. I asked how could they have been so wrong? if they were unsure, it would have been much better to say so, instead of jumping to conclusions. Instead of an apology, I was again told that they had reached the correct diagnosis and they suspected that the tumour had just fallen off!!!! And the hospital should not have asked why she had been referred and would take it up with the hospital. Understandably we have changed our veterinary practice. Upon registration with our new vets were went through our pets history and the mis diagnosis. We had just paid for another 12 months of injections for the allergy and took them to the new vets. Really nice guy who asked when she had last been checked for the allergy as she might have outgrown it, and it might be a good idea to leave the injections and to see how she goes on. Our lab has never been rechecked as the question had never been raised. More importantly, I described our pets coughing systems and the cancerous mass that had miraculously fallen off, he suggested that it could have been a bee sting and they can look like a hard large mass. As a family we have always trusted Moorland Vets, probably naively. Our lab hasnt had any injections for over 3 months and the allergy has not recurred. I have to conclude that making the most money out of a client is paramount. Read Less

We really cannot recommend this practice highly enough. We recently moved to the area and when Monty joined our family, we needed a new vet. Everyone we spoke to only had fantastic things to say about Moorlands so without hesitation we booked him in. Monty is a Bernese mountain dog and is loved so much, naturally we only want the very best for him, moorlands is outstanding. Over the years, I’ve had many pets and many vets, none of whom I’d recommend with confidence. I’m happy to say that moorlands is the exception. Tracy has looked after Monty with as much love, care, kindness and concern as we ourselves do, she’s amazing. Thank you so much for all you’ve done, we are now absolutely certain we made the right choice. Thank you Tracy. Debbie, Paul, Ryan and Monty Hobbs Read Less

***STATUS UPDATE!!! The vets have had the police come to me to try to frighten me into removing this post!!! Oh how people panic when the truth comes out!!! And if you think il go quietly away THINK AGAIN!!! Do not fook with my dog n expect to intimidate me into being quiet lol!!! #fuktheestablishment Hey guys!! She's back!!! With a warning.. After a horrific afternoon/night last night i feel the need to warn people DO NOT USE PARK VETS!!! After receiving a phone call saying the famous n much loved Sassy was ill I quickly realised after going to her she was suffering with the fatal infection Pyometra. She was rushed to Park vets who confirmed it then asked for 800 up front to give her life saving surgery. I offered a payment plan straight away to which the response was 'no we want at least 200 up front if you can't afford we will put her to sleep' said by a receptionist who had a grin on her face that I can only say wanted knocking clean off... She then clearly wanted the problem out of her surgery n claimed she had booked sassy in for emergency surgery at the Pdsa in Stoke and they where waiting for us. This was not the case no phone call was made n the PDSA had no clue as to us arriving. They where about to shut n extremely luckily the surgeon was still on sight... When confronted by the vet at Pdsa, Park vets denied all knowledge and made some story about missing paperwork which was never the case. This all nearly cost Sassy her life. It may well of done yet she's out of surgery for 10 this morning. But I never want anyone to go threw the lack of care n organisation we went threw yesterday or for there much loved furry family member to be treated so coldly by the Park vets... Can honestly say one of the worst n most frightening things ever and the place wants shutting down... #prayforthepig #lovesassyRead Less
