Worst vet in Lichfield - Avoid! We took our very sick dog into Poole House Vets. He was extremely ill and we knew there was something seriously wrong with him. Poole House vets conducted what they said was a full range of comprehensive tests and said they couldn't find anything wrong with him. His symptoms did not improve so we called the vet again to question her assessment. We asked if she had checked his ears as we asked them to as he was exhibiting balance issues and she said no she hadn't (we have the call recording). Over the following few days our dog got progressively worse. We knew he wasn't right so we took him to a different vets practice for a 2nd opinion and they immediately discovered he had a very very severe ear infection!!! This clearly shows the Poole House vet didn't even look in his ears as the infection was clearly visible. This is clear negligence and as a result our dog suffered a tremendous amount of unnecessary pain and suffering. Poole House are awful and totally incompetent. The facts speak for themselves, Poole House charged us £130 for a so-called full range of comprehensive tests and spent 30 mins examining our dog and couldn't find anything wrong with him. We went to a different vets (Hillman Vets) that know what they're doing and they immediately within 2 mins discovered the severe ear infection!!! (At a 1/3 of the price as well) If you are looking for a vet in the Lichfield area do not entrust the health of your pet to these people, they are incompetent and don't care about the animals they treat or their customers. All they care about is your cash. There are better vets in the area that actually know what they're doing and care about the animals they treat Read Less

I cannot sing the praises of the vets here enough, in particular Sophie and Jenny, although the whole team has been fantastic. Unfortunately our little pup contracted Parvo and has been fighting for his life for days. They have shown nothing but compassion and gone above and beyond for our boy. He has received absolutely everything he needs and more. They’ve kept me up to date throughout. One day in particular he was extremely critical but with their constant care and his willingness to fight he’s is still going and he is fighting with everything he has. Regardless of the end result I am forever in their debt and if he comes home at the end that was 100% on them and there is absolutely no price too high to save his life. Thanks again to the whole team, I’ve felt nothing but confident in your expertise and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Not all hero’s wear capes. Read Less

We had to take our little naughty dog to pool house vets a couple of weeks ago. It was a Sunday afternoon and he had eaten some dark chocolates. They made him sick and also sent him home with some charcoal to help flush the toxins out of his tummy. All was great with the care. My issue was how we were treated finance wise. When I first called them up to tell them what he had done I was told it would cost £190! I said ok and took him up. Once the treatment was done he was handed back to me in the car park and no mention of money occurred so I assumed they would send the invoice to us for £190. We were away the following week on holiday and it was about 5 days after coming home that an invoice arrived, now remember I said £190? Not anymore….. no now it was £297!!! I called them for an explanation of this and the woman in the finance office was absolutely horrid, so cold and calculating!! I just wanted an explanation as to why such a difference in price and I also wanted to know when the bill needed to be paid by. “You should have paid us on the day it was done” she told me very abruptly, I informed her no one had even mentioned money on the day! She then said “are you telling me you can’t pay cuz if you can’t we will start charging 15%interest!!” I told her I had the funds to pay but I wanted a proper explanation of how the bill had gone up by over a hundred pound!! “These things happen” she told me! When I checked the itemized bill I saw that they had charged me £100 extra for an out of hours service!! I can understand out of hours if I had called them in the middle of the night but at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon!!!!! Absolutely disgraceful service, just shows what a money making machine this place is, they really do not care about animals at all. Please please avoid using this place unless you have very full wallets!!!!! Read Less

Over the past 16 years I have taken two cats to this particular practice. I have found on the whole the vets and staff to be extremely professional and very friendly. I like the way there are two waiting sections, one for dogs and one for cats. Pool House is situated in a very pretty part of Lichfield. It is a large, very clean and busy hospital. On reflection, my main criticism, is that it would be nice to have a specialist or drop in clinic for geriatric animals. They do have a clinic for dogs to donate blood and you can book in to see a nurse for weight checks and advice regarding diet. If there are specialist clinics for older animals then I apologise. However, I wasn't made aware of such. It would have been nice to be able to book in to discuss issues regarding kidney disease, cancer, dementia or arthritis. A kidney clinic would also be very helpful where you could have advice on medications, diet, book in for annual bloods and know what to look for with each stage of the disease. I didn't find the advice on renal food very helpful. When Daisy was first diagnosed, I was given 3 flavours of Royal Canin Renal wet food and advised to start on one flavour and only change once the cat got bored or fed up. I found out since that there is a large variety of renal foods on the market. However, not all cats will take to renal food. So suggestions on alternatives would have been helpful. My cat had more than one health problem and when it came to appointments I sometimes felt I had to rush, particularly if I had booked in for one specific issue and another problem had occurred after the appointment had been made. I do appreciate the time spent on each animal is quite limited, although you can book a double appointment if you need more time I admit to asking a lot of questions but I tried to take a more proactive approach regarding her care. I was quite hurt by a comment from one particular vet about my "wanting things to be perfect". As I said at the time that would be very unrealistic of me as Daisy was 19. I really just wanted my cat to be as comfortable as possible. Old age is not a disease. I also found that if I did have a query I was made to feel as if I was being unrealistic or over anxious. I also found some of the responses from a couple of the vets slightly patronising and bordering on the quite rude. I did in the end decide to take my cat to a smaller more community based vets where her old age was not an issue. When it came for Daisy to be put to sleep, a vet came to our home. She had a beautiful and dignified end. While I appreciate all the care Daisy had over the years when she was younger, I firmly believe she went to the right practice regarding her end of life care. I hope not to sound too critical. I am only wanting to be constructive. I would still happily recommend people to Pool House. Regards Emma Guinan. Read Less

Previously rated 5 stars by myself I can only add an additional testament to the dedication and care of the staff at Pool House. In a bizarre emergency today with our pet Cavalier, involving practically all of the staff, I witnessed first hand how very professional and truly decent they are. Naturally sceptical and cynical I always wonder, but they were genuinely awesome. They would honestly sacrifice anything (I kid you not) for the sake of your pet. Thank you so very much for inconveniencing yourselves beyond all expectations today. As a family who will always have dogs we shall continue to be customers for life. Read Less

The nurses were particularly helpful and well informed when my dog was bitten on Christmas Day and the subsequent visit and surgery for my dog was of the highest standard. All the staff took the time to explain what was happening, kept me informed of progress and gave me a full briefing for the medication and aftercare on my dog's release on Boxing day. I would certainly recommend the care and attention they provided. All done when all other vets were closed and the most people were enjoying Christmas with their families and friends. Read Less

Chester our lovely Sprocker dog decided to eat Santa’s mince pie that was left on the hearth (he left the port and carrot😂). As we knew the raisins and sultanas were toxic we had no choice but to get him to the vets asap. So at 1am Christmas morning I was sat in the waiting area as our dog was given an injection to allow him to bring up the contents of his stomach. The staff at the veterinary were fantastic, reassuring me all the time. 5* service!

A big thank you. Read Less
