Clients of 30 + years never had bad experience before Visited the vets dog due vaccination & check up & meds booked by phone told them when asked what appt was for the above( as they ask reason) I had to email due to set up again mentioned above in black and white - then told vet when sat under gazebo my dog is very nervous not good with other dogs strangers the whole set up doesn’t cater for her took her into room I sat under gazebo she was gone a bit was told all done paid was asked if wanted itemised bill I said yes was told be emailed over bearing in mind I wAs given flimsy receipt of amount why it couldn’t be given then not sure ? Got home checked email no vaccination charge called up got snooty head of reception who said have to call you back as didn’t know if it had been done - another lady called NO wasn’t done so was just as well I said yes to the itemised bill or I would of thought it was given vaccine - it’s inconvenience & the fact no apology & ive got to visit the vets again 5 days later ?? And stress my dog out again. You don’t know what’s going on when they take the dog from you from the gazebo into vet room or what’s been done or not in this case. Always had good experiences before disappointing this one was & aftercare the day I went was the day the vaccination was due surely it was on screen to prompt. If they had given the big receipt there then I wouldn’t be wasting petrol & time again & stressing my poor dog out again. Yes there’s a pandemic but this gazebo business is hardly practical in winter & has these issues for clients the visit was a let down & we have praised the vets before, also when manners are required it costs nothing nor does it to apologise. 1st visit today after many recommendations. I had an 8week old puppy who was very nervous to be meeting other dogs but the staff didn't seem very friendly. I was to see a nurse for worming treatment who again I didnt find friendly and didn't even touch him I had to put him on the scales i was told the nurse would have checked him over etc but when I asked her she said well if he has anything major I cannot diagnose. Used this vet for over 30 years & to now learn that a partner is part of a hunt is disgusting. I have a friend who's a retired vet, he owns a caravan site & has had numerous problems with rabbits, he struggles to cope with his site manager having to reduce the numbers because they sometimes get out of control because as he says "I've always tried to save the lives of animals" that's why i became a vet. This extremely highly regarded practice has been subjected to a flurry of negative reviews over the past week which relate to an admittedly extremely distressing incident in which one member of the 50 strong staff has been implicated but is totally unrelated to the day to day running of the practice. Whilst I am a firm advocate of freedom of expression, my understanding is that a review should be based on personal experience. I strongly suspect that the greater majority of the recent contributors have no first hand experience of the practice but are acting in response to a 'smear campaign'. This is substantiated by some blatant inaccuracies in many of the recent reviews.As a long time former staff member and an ongoing client of the practice, I fully appreciate the skill, hard work, dedication and particularly the high level of care which the practice delivers. I would whole heartedly recommend this practice. I note that a recently edited review suggests that my rating is ' hypocrisy' in view of the fact that the contributor has 'searched' and discovered that I am a former staff member of this practice. Had he bothered to read my review in which I clearly state my connection to the practice then he could have saved himself the trouble. I have also stated that I am an ongoing client of the practice. Having used this practice for nearly 20 years I can honestly say that Outstanding 5* treatment by ALL vets and nurses has been received at all times. I would never choose to go anywhere else. I trust these guys implicitly with my fur babies and will continue to do so. I’ve shared happiness introducing my new pets to you , to fears and tears when they are poorly. You have saved the life of two of my pets and I cannot thank you enough. Excellent vets and nurses, full of compassion and love for the animals. My guinea pigs received the best treatment possible during their lives right up until the end. Dave Talbot looked after one of them in particular who unfortunately had health issues throughout his whole life and this care probably extended his lifetime. At the end of his life, a different vet called Dave took great care of him when it came to the difficult decision to let him go and let him sleep and rest peacefully. Dave showed unbelievable kindness and understanding towards me and even took the time to speak to me and reassure me that I'd made the right decision and he helped me come to terms with it, his kindness and support really helped me get through that difficult time. The staff really are amazing and each vet that I've seen has gone the extra mile for my pets. Took my bitch in yesterday to be spayed it was my only choice in my mind to have her done there.I had a chocolate lab and she had pyometra which we all know as a lethal conditin and so many bitches have lost their lives to it.She was 9 years old and over weight her chances of survival was very slim i rushed her to staitons who performed her operation as soon as possible after running vital tests.She was a very very poorly girl to say the least and pulled through against a lot of odds.I cannot express the happiness it gave me to see my girl well again and she went onto live another 3 years which seemed with a new lease of life and i will never be able to express how grateful i was to these veterinaty surgeons at E C STRAITON for that life THEY gave her and our family.The ladies their in admissions are all just wonderful and i could her them making a right fuss of her and giving her kisses i know she was very well looked after.Bella was a little subdued last night but 1.30 am this morning she wanted to play ball and is back to running round the house.The procedure she had looks very neat and clean and no means seems to be bothering her.I am yet again another very happy mommy.Thankyou so much for everything you really are such wonderful people.The Bennetts and of course Bella.xxxxxRead Less

We have used Straitons for over 25 years mostly Craig but the other vets when Craig has been away and never not once had a problem with any Veterinary nurse, Vet or member of the reception staff. I would recommend Straitons to anybody that has a serious love for animals and only wants the best for their pet or farm animal. They have a genuine love for animals and are not in the habit of seeing an animal suffer needlessly for the sake of making money. Prices are reasonable for the excellent service and experience you receive. I think people need to realise that at the end of the day it's a business and a damn good one not a charity, but like any other business it needs to make money to survive which it has done successfully for many years. I also think some of the bitter comments below are down to people not being able to accept their animal is beyond help and the miracle they was hoping for is not possible. They are vets! The best you will find in my opinion and many others but they ain't GOD. Yes it does get busy at times and the carpark is nearly always full by people that travel locally and distance to use the practice, but they don't fill a large practice and a large carpark by not being good........speaks for itself really. Ignore the few disgruntled people and listen to the majority of people that use them you won't be disappointed. Read Less

I highly recommend straitons, i have been a client for 13 years always used them for my horses, cats and dogs, always caring, Ken especially has looked after my horses so well, he takes time to speak to you and is genuinely interested. My mare has recently crossed rainbow bridge and although wasn't a pleasant experience, ken looked after her at the end and made sure I was ok My dogs and cats have all been looked after so well over the years til the end and all have been looked after so well My current German shepherd is being treated by Craig who puts up so well with his grumpiness towards the vet!! I have been with Straitons vets for over 30 years, After what feels like a life time of horses, dogs and more than 100 rescue parrots they have become more than my vets. I have never been unhappy with any of the treatments or advice given, Most recently is our GSD suffering from Intussusception, found and operated on immediately, without there professionalism and care for the animals we could/would have lost him. Fantastic vets. Won't use anyone else for either of our dogs. Staff always friendly but professional. Cost is always fair and actually a lot cheaper than others. If you don't need it they don't sell it to you. Staff listen to what you have to say. Can be very busy at times and appointments do overrun but they are a very popular practice with a very loyal client based. I would recommend them with no hesitation. Been there a couple of times now all good experience's alot cheaper than some other vets. My dog is a large great dane and lizzy one of the vets was brilliant with him put him and us at ease straight away she even called us to let us know how much of a bigger dose we should give Riley as she would call the manufacturer to ensure the dose was correct. I've always used St Georges but they let us down a couple of times and very expensive so feel these are good. Definitely will use these vets from now on. Read Less

Do not use this vet.Vet was a stuck up public school boy who had no interest in my poor dog who has been suffering terribly with a bite of some sort.Vet hadn,t a clue what had caused it and made no attempt to find out.No painkillers given or anything for the itching or a collar to stop him itching.I was kept waiting 40 minutes over my appointment time which is nothing new-vets are in no rush here to see anxious and ill pets.Dog urine all over the floor which the receptionist couldn,t be bothered to clean up.Had a terrible experience with one of the vets nurses who did,t have a clue how to take out 3 simple stitches on my dog.Feel very angry that my dog has been left for suffer.49.00 for 3minutes work no wonder they are on to make 12 million this year.This place lives on its name, a name that went when the old man eddie straiton died.You have been warned.
