Our dog collapsed in the house he appeared to be dying his eyes were closed and his stomach was pulsatng as though with fluid. I got down beside him and spoke to him but no response. Fearing the worst, we phoned ashbank for an emergency appointment and were told to bring him in. The worst decision of my life.
We arrived at ashbank in about 10 minutes. We were seen by a young vet, not old enough to have any great experience. His attitude was like, just another day at the office. No shred of compassion for our dog or empathy for us. He seemed amused at touching our dog’s painful left side, which was painful to touch. He said he would x-ray and scan his side to find out what had happened. We left to await a phone call when this was done. In due course we got a call from the main vet, The call was not too clear but I think the problem was his spleen or stomach. In the call the rough price for the op was quoted. I did not object to the cost or say no to an operation, so I assumed that would take place. The vet complained that both the x-rays and scans were not clear. I did not see that as a problem as vets know rhe anatomy of a dog inside out. Why the x-rays and scans were not clear I do not know, there was no explanation. In an emergency I thought the main vet should have handled it, and our dog should have had a pain killing injection before anything else was done.
I knew nothing about spleens at that time but have learned since. The op is considered low risk and takes about 45 minutes. We arrived back at ashbank expecting the op to be over and our dog on his feet, Not so, I found our dog at death’s door he had no treatment at all. I was appalled and extremely shocked. How could 2 vets and nursing staff not help our dog knowing it was bleeding inside When I left my dog there it was on its feet, bright eyed and alert but was now drugged and could not respond. I left our dog in the care of Timothy Pennington to see what was wrong and see that he was treated. We left our dog there not just to be diagnosed but to be treated, he failed in his duty of responsibility. Our dog rolled over on his side and was put tu sleep. We were then given a bill for nearly£1400, all of it spent on tests, If they had given our dog a blood transfusion and fluids I would have found him on his feet and bright as I left him. This may have given me time to find a vet able to treat him. What is wrong with vets, have they no compassion. I have lost faith in all vets. I will always regret leaving our beautiful dog alone in ashbank I had a gut feeling to take him elsewhere when vet Timothy took him away. I should have called our dog back I will never forget or forgive vet Timothy for not calling back and stressing the urgency of the need for an operation. Our dog was used to run up a bill for tests, then left to fade away with no treatment. In my opinion vet Timothy did not look after our dog with the care and kindness I expected, he was the consulting vet, he should have protected my dog and ensured that he got the treatment he needed.
So sad to write, but my dog needed emergency treatment and an op but for some reason he was not treated as an emergency. I am sad he was not helped despite two vets present, neither were moved to help our dog. He had attended Ashbank since his puppy days. Read Less
