Sharing this review following mediation with the VCMS, which has been left as unresolved. The pain this practice has caused my dog and in turn our family has been more than they probably realise. I have taken my complaint to them which was half responded to and half ignored. We then went through a mediator and this has been left unresolved due to the practice "taking on board" my comments, but not offering any good will gesture or apology. I took my french bulldog to the clinic after finding a lump on her ear, we were new clients after the closure of our local vet. They diagnosed a hematoma and advised that the treatment would be leech therapy. We took our dog to the Dorking branch for the therapy several days later and following this, the hematoma worsened. We were asked to wait a week before bringing her back, however the size concerned me and I took her back after a few days. More leeches applied. A week later, it's even bigger. Her whole ear is swollen. Take her back again, no treatment offered as we need to wait at least 2 weeks. She was given anti allergy injections and antibiotics to treat the underlying ear infections at her first and last appointments. At this point I decided to seek a second opinion. There were several factors involved in this, including gut instinct that something at this clinic felt "off", as well as conducting my own research and finding that leech therapy is not a common treatment for this type of injury. I took her to another clinic the following day and the Vet drained her hematoma surgically there and then. There was 26ml of blood drained from her ear. Had this been done at the start when the hematoma was a lot smaller, it would have saved her 2 weeks of pain. She required one more drainage a week later, a very small amount, and now several weeks on, her ear has fully healed thanks to the new clinic, sadly it is now crumpled so will not stand upright again. The above is a condensed version of everything I complained about and I put these opinions forward to Brelades, but what I received back was far from a heartfelt apology but a defensive account of the effectiveness of leech treatment and a "I'm sorry you felt....." apology, rather than anything genuine. I requested a refund for the leeches (a small amount in the grand scheme, less than £200) which the VCMS agreed would be a goodwill gesture but this has twice been declined. My comments about poor customer relations at the clinic were ignored. They have agreed to take my comments on board that I wish for them to give treatment choices to clients to enable them to conduct their own research and make choices that they feel would benefit their pet, rather than giving one preferred treatment option (in this case leeches). Whether they will or not is a different story. I highly regret not declining the leeches and wish I had researched sooner, but not as much as I regret going to this clinic in the first place. I trust them to look after my Guide Dog, and have had no reason to complain. The charity Guide Dogs are rigorous in terms of how they expect their dogs to be cared for, visits to the vet must be documented and written evidence of either checks or treatment provided. Maybe I'm being unrealistic, as if ever something out of the ordinary happened as with my previous dog, Guide Dog's support and decision making is only a phone call away, an advantage that someone visiting with a much loved pet wouldn't have. Used to take my pets there but now Bryan and John have gone it's all about the money. My guinnea pig had a cyst on his chest and had been treated there all was good for a couple of days when he went downhill fast and was obviously suffering. It was 6.30, out of hours, but the vet told me she was already at the surgery treating a dog but still wanted £160 to see him. I had to let him suffer in a box until he passed away during the night. We've used them for years with our cat and always been happy with the care provided, but they;'e certainly gone done downhill in recent months. I think there has been a change of management and it's not been a good one. Took our sick 12 week old puppy in after she had been violently ill all night and asked to see a vet, this was after already taking her in a few days before due to diarrhoea. But we were to turned away saying there was nothing till later in the day. They used to make space to see you and you'd see vets you knew. We've not seen any vets we recognise during any of our recent visits. They also seem disinterested in actually trying to help. We'll be moving to someone else from now on. Read Less

Took our monster in today( aka our cat, Arthur) for his first ever check up at Brelades in Bookham . Arthur is a big strong cat who will bite and scratch and previous vets haven’t been able to give him a proper examination. But Jemma was brilliant with him and was able to check his teeth and tummy etc and gave some good advice on different flea treatments as he wasn’t getting on with his other one. Thank you so much, Jemma! I feel really confident that I have found a good local veterinary surgery. Read Less

Great local vets. Not cheap (like all other vets) but good service and friendly staff.

charged me over £200 to look at my dog who had a lump. tried to put a huge bandage on it that fell off outside and charge me £60 for it. All about money and not about the animals

Read Less

Terrible experience with these vets and would never go back. Have been a client for many years and never had an issue all the years John was in charge. Saw the same vets time after time with a good, caring service. Unfortunately all changed now. Never see the same vet and recently having our dog treated for cancer; had to constantly chase for results that were promised but never materialised and had to explain our dog's situation every time we phoned through which was ext...remely upsetting in the circumstances. Despite our insurance part settling the claim, my writing a complaint letter (to which I have never even had the courtesy of a response) and three calls to the surgery requesting details of the amount outstanding, we have never had a call back and they say they have never received the money from the insurance company! Avoid at all costs, this is an inefficient and faceless business. See More Read Less

A miracle was performed on my beloved dog Connie tonight. She gave birth to 2 healthy pups earlier in the day... We knew something was wrong later so rushed her to Brelades about 7pm.... We were told there was possible a puppy still stuck. Mum too weak to push... So they performed an emergency c-section.... 3 more pups found. And bought back from brink of death by the team involved ... We're home now and fingers crossed they do well tonight and carry on getting stronger... Thank you thank you. We literally cannot thank you all enough... Read Less

The best vets I have ever used. My cat had to go in as an emergency case on a recent Friday afternoon. We were treated with kindness throughout - in fact, I cannot say just how kind the vets were. The cat had to be kept in for about 48 hours and Brelades kept me regularly updated with his progress. Thankfully all was well and he came home on the Sunday. All contact I have had with Brelades since has been incredibly professional;. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone with small animals. Read Less
