After 15 years with Companion Care, we are extremely disappointed with them and now looking for another vet. We phoned with our concerns for our pet and the charging started immediatly as my wife was charged £36 for just talking to the vet on the phone without them even seeing the dog. I thought this was a bit strange but maybe that is normal now!? We were then advised to bring our dog in (which is what we wanted to do in the first place) and incurred new charges for this as the vet was actually seeing the dog now. If we had brought the dog in like we wanted to without having to speak to the vet, we would not have been charged twice. The alrm bells were now ringing that they were taking every penny they could out of us in our dire situation. We were told our dog was diabetic and needed £500 worth of treatment. Fair enough but I did wonder as she was such an old dog and in very poor health what differnce this would make!? I soon found out! The next day after just 2 insulin injections, with no improvement, she deteriorated rapidly so was rushed in at 2pm Tuesday. A further £130 this time, and a whole bunch of meds precribed. Once again, I was getting concerned at how big the bill was getting and what differnece this 'treatment' was or could have. At 5pm the very same day, she had a fit and was rushed back and put to sleep. The bill this time a further £280. After an extremely traumatic week, nearly £1000 paid which made no difference whatsoever , I merely requested to return the £30 worth of unopened meds we had received just 3 hrs earlier. Despite the very helpful assistant approaching her line manager twice, to request this.... Companion Care said No! Considering we had spent nearly a £1000 in the preceding days and the fact the meds were untouched, was this really an unreasonable request? To be honest considering everything and how much we had paid them which did nothing for our pet even if we had used them, would it have been too much to give them without charge? You can be sure that while they cost us £30 , they cost the vets significantly less. Very disappointed. Be aware, that to Companion Care, customer care/appreciation comes second to their getting as much money out of you as possible!!! Extremely disappointed and we are certainly not going to get ripped off by companion care ever again!!! Read Less

We came with 2 rats with respiratory disease. The VET we saw was very hesitant and didn't seem to know what he was doing. He gave a broad spectrum antibiotic and told us to mix it with some orange juice so they would take it. At that point I wondered as I thought I remembered that citrus of any kind is toxic for rats. When I came home I researched it and indeed, citrus of any kind is toxic and can kill rats. The antibiotics didn't really work either. So I ended up researching myself and found that no, none of the recommendations given were correct. Obviously this VET had no idea what he was doing and didn't bother asking a colleague who would know. We ended up going to another VET, Black Water Valley Vet Centres in Frimley Green. The lady we spoke to there knew very well what she was talking about and our babies are doing great again! Do not bother going to the VETs at Pets at Home. If we would have followed their recommendations we would have had 2 dead rats. Read Less

I have always used Companion Care for my animals and recently tried the Farnborough one. I expressed that I was rehoming a dog from abroad and wanted it to be checked over. The receptionist refused to let me bring the dog in, rolled her eyes when I expressed my concerns, and was patronising. There were a number of other people waiting who all started staring; I felt so embarrassed. I have since left the vets and taken my dogs to a new one, who have happily checked over my new dog which went beautifully. I do not expect to be spoken to in the way I was, and I have been advised by a number of other people that they will not use this vets for a number of reasons. Avoid if you can! Read Less
