Ok, where do I start? After getting our new French Bulldog puppy, the Avenue seemed like the perfect choice, seeing they are round the corner from where we live.
Firstly we got our puppy checked out the very next day after picking him up, with all our paperwork to hand comprising dates and record of of immunisation.
We were greeted with a very friendly and enthusiastic staff, which at first we thought was quite nice. We were informed that the practice holds a puppy party and was invited to attend the following week. However, our pup would require his second immunisation before attending. The vet booked him in for his injection the following week, which we attended. A different vet injected our puppy, after which she checked the date and realised it was 1 week early. There was a slight pause, but we were assured he will be fine. But as a precaution it might be wise to keep him in for 2 weeks instead of the 1.
We did think this was a basic oversight at the time, but thought better of it and gave them the benefit of the doubt.
Whilst we were away on holiday in the UK, our puppy started vomiting his food and water and became very dehydrated, that we became very concerned, especially as he is normally a very hyperactive playful puppy and was now very lethargic. We decided to contact our vet to seek advice and was instructed to keep the puppy hydrated and feed him chicken and rice. it got to a point where it was clearly apparent our pup was not going to eat or drink anything, so we arranged an appointment with the vet and cut our holiday short and proceeded to drive the 2 hour journey back.
An hour into our journey we got a call from the receptionist at the vet to inform us that the vet can no longer see our pup because they got an unexpected emergency surgery to carry out and a second emergency case coming in.
We were absolutely stunned by this considering we thought our pup was an emergency case and was now bumped because of a later emergency. The receptionist was very apologetic and offered us an emergency number for another vet. We couldn't understand why we were bumped even though we had a confirmed appointment. after some very harsh words from our side, the receptionist spoke to the vet and suggested we bring our pup in before the surgery closes and wait till after surgery finishes, but it meant we would have to wait in a locked surgery for 2 hours, before we could be seen. This was not an option so we decided to take our pup to another vet. Fortunate for us we now have found an amazing practice that was very sympathetic to hear of our experience with The Avenue Vets. We are so relieved to have found out at such an early stage of registering our pup, that behind the facade of overacting pretence of caring, this is really an unprofessional practise. My only regret is that I have to tick one star to enable me to post this review.
