When moving to a new area, one of the worries is finding a vet that you are happy with to look after your beloved furry family members. Hawthron Vets were recommended to me by a few people and i couldn't have been more delighted to have such a fabulous team to collaborate with to ensure the well being of my furry family. Almost immediately, my old dog needed an op. The op was done marvellously and the post op care was really over and above. I was so grateful to them - as my dog is older his healing was slow and a bit of a worry - they were both emotionally supportive to me and very dedicated and professional to ensure he wound healed perfectly. Many thank yous to all the team xxx Read Less

Hello This is a sort story about my two cats Eric and Ernie , a year or so ago Eric and Ernie inadvertently ingested a poisonous substance .( A paracetamol ) The clue was the powder on the floor which alerted alarm bells , the problem was I did not know if it was just one cat or both that had taken the power? To cats paracetamols are very dangerous, so straight off to Hawthorn Vets to see what was to be done! Jonathan Underwood took both Eric and Ernie and gave them an examination , then came and discuss with me that they had to stay in for a week, have blood test every day but first he had to get the antidote from the hospital. I was beside myself with worry but Jonathan assured me in his very clam and relaxed way that he has , which straight away puts you at ease ,that all would be well. The treatment was given and Eric and Ernie recovered well as Jonathan had said and still are a picture of health to this day. Why I wanted to post this story now is to say that without all the staff at Hawthorn Veterinary Practice who were amazing and Jonathan dedication in getting the antidote, which meant driving to the hospital to pick it up, is something I shall never forget. Hawthorn Veterinary Practice gives a wonderful service and takes your animals welfare to their hearts . Thank you from Lyn and Eric and Ernie. Read Less

Took my German Shepherd dog there for castration. He had one testicle that still hadn't dropped at 3.5 years old. They did the op and afterwards in his private parts he was terribly sore. Then within a couple of days from the op, the soreness grew and there was swelling appearing all around his private parts. This metastasised into unbelievable swelling and he was most unhappy. So I took him back there after the fourth day and they gave more drugs. Only before they did I said the drugs before the op for a torn knee, had made him vomit. They thanked me and noted this on the computer. Then as we were leaving the nurse came out and said she'd given him a tablet. I looked down in my hand at the new tablets and realised none were open, so I asked what she gave him. Immediately upon hearing the name, I realised she'd given him the one the notes said he shouldn't of had. Ok so I let that go. Then 4 more days being 8 days from the op, my male dog was dripping with thick clear liquid from his private parts, which they blood followed. We aren't talking a few drops either but a steady stream of it. I called them and said I am coming straight away, and they said but we have appointments. Tough, I am coming so I put the phone down and started driving. On the way there and one minute from arrival with more blood and nastiness pouring out, I called them to say we would be there in minutes. When we arrived I rushed in and the nurse looked at me dumbfounded before saying well she can't do anything and he will have to wait outside in the carpark ten minutes. Then when the dog came out that was being seen, it ran and bounced out suggesting they could have held the appointment back, as my dogs problem was serious. Then inside they looked at him and after a couple minutes said well they are busy with appointments but they will look at him properly in 3 hours. So they kept him in and sedated him. Then after 3.5 hours they rang me and said they didn't do anything but cleaned his private parts which were obviously infected. They did say though that after spending 385 for the castration, this thirty minute look and his sedation would cost me 230 pounds extra. No way. So they operate and he gets infected in the operation, then with prior notice they leave me outside ten minutes when he's bleeding heavily, and after 3 hours leaving him in a cage and thirty minutes work, they want 230 extra. I had said on the phone I won't be paying, only when I had arrived to collect him, the young assistant said 230 and I was shocked. I asked if she knew I wasn't prepared to pay for their mistake. She said she was but she just thought she would try asking again. Terrible service. Don't have a potion for animals just taking your MONEY.Read Less
