Thank you for taking great care of bugsy the beagle first last month when his hernia op didn’t go to plan and then the other weekend when we thought he had a blockage , the weekend vets and staff were brilliant on both occasions ensuring bugsy got the highest care and best treatment possibly , all your staff are truly marvellous and have big hearts caring for my fur kid. I am truly grateful for the high level care and love you gave bugsy in ensuring his recovery . The reception were great but apart from this don't use this vets. It is all about making money. The vet didn't know prices, put my cat through a range of treatments I didn't agree to so the bill rocketed. They kept him in overnight and carried out various injections/gave him oxygen, which I was charged for but never authorised. They even rang my work phone on the evening, which was turned off & had a message telling the caller to phone the office if urgent. They still left a message to say they had carried out more work on him - they had my home and personal mobile number. He left in an even worse state than he arrived. A cat that was over 13 years old, with a heart condition & went in with breathing difficulties but they continued to try everything in just over 18 hours to bring in as much money as possible because "they never put a healthy cat to sleep". He had to be put to sleep a few hours later because he was suffering so much from the moment I picked him up. But at least they made nearly £1,000 - well done. Read Less

Unfortunately Tilly lost her brave battle against this disease almost 2 months ago, despite all the best efforts of staff to keep her with us. Disgusting place. The vet didn't know what she was talking about. I had the option of putting our dog down due to them telling me she would die if I took her home. I signed a disclaimer to say I would not agree to what they had said... 5 days after looking after our dog feeding her water through a syringe she was back to her normal self!!! This is the second time my ever so mischeveious Pomeranian puppy has stayed with Abby house, the reception staff are extremely welcoming especially Lucy, she’s buddy favourite! Just had to bring my dog Sebastian in as I had cut his nail too short and it wouldn’t stop bleeding. The receptionist and the vet (not sure of her name!) were absolutely amazing. Sorted him right out and gave me lots of tips for future nail cutting - really knew what she was doing. Made me feel straight at ease. I was expecting the bill to be really high but it was exceptionally low. Can’t thank these enough - wouldn’t go anywhere else now for emergency treatment. First time ever at Abbey House we were there late friday night my daughter Emma and i with her westie Zoe she had pulled a nail out of ger paw . Absolutely shocking vets, made me raise my own dogs vein for Pts, she weed afterwards and he passed me blue roll to clean it up myself! Left my insurance paperwork and numbers with the receptionist to call me if any problems with the insurance papers. They have instead decided to get a debt agency for 40 pounds! Instead of just calling me. They should be ashamed, bringing up All the heart brake of losing a pet over 40 quid. Wouldn't recommend. Disgusting attitude from all parties.!! Read Less

took my dog with bloat, the vet asked me why she was on heart medication I told her she had dysrhythmia the stupid woman said her heart sounded fine to me. My Pomeranian became quite ill over Easter, losing blood and very bad diarrhoea. As my own Vet was closed I rang the emergency line and without going into all the details I was extremely grateful and very pleased with their service. We had klaus at the vets with Tom for hip and elbow scans, I don't trust many people with my pups after a very bad experience at another vets so for me to trust a vet is hard, we have 4 Rottweilers who are our babies and Abbey is the only place I will take them. From reception to kennel assistants to nurses to vets to insurance staff the care given is 5 star. Tom does not try rush you and he will explain ever thing in detail, he is a vet that cares and that is obvious to anyone that has taken a pet to see him. We have seen Neil with our boy Rosco when he had his kidney removed and once again the service given was excellent. With 4 dogs who are very active we come across falls trips and knocks and we don't hesitate to take them in for checking if we are concerned, finding good vets you trust is rare. Our 4 dogs are so calm and relaxed when they are in Abbeys care. My little lhasa apso went to Abbey house on the 29th of December 2016. My own vets had been treating him for gas in his stomach. Went to abbey house when our vet eventually realised something was wrong. My baby boy was seen by Mr Clarke who operated on his spine. He had a disc extrusion. All of the staff who work there are amazing. Archie spent a week in hospital and nothing was ever too much trouble. We went through to see him every day and he was always well looked after. I used to phone up 3 times a day to check on my boy and i always had a lovely talk with the ladies on reception. The after care is really really good. I will never be able to thank you all enough. We were referred to Mrs Lisa Davies here when our Shih Tsu suffered an eye injury and was in a lot of pain. We feared that he would need an operation and might even lose his eye as it was ulcerated and infected. Mrs Davies carried out an extremely thorough examination and prescribed antibiotics, painkillers and multiple eye drops including serum made from the dog's own blood. She kept in close contact, phoning us regularly throughout the treatment and we had to see her every few days at first, then weekly. He has just been signed off. It was not just her expertise and the treatment that impressed us, but the manner in which it was delivered. Unhurried, thorough, caring and considerate not just about the dog, but about our appointment times, travelling, cost etc. Given the level of specialist expertise and the facilities available we felt that the charges were very reasonable. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful and the experience was a very good one with a happy outcome. Read Less

My fab rescued Dalmatian was treated at Abbey House Morley ever since I adopted her from the North of England Dalmatian Rescue until she took her final breath 31/10/2016. Up to the age of 10 she only ever went there for the usual annual vaccinations, until one Sunday evening when she couldn't raise her head, it was an emergency appointment, she was seen straight away, the diagnosis was either meningitis or a slipping disc in her neck. Cutting a long story short she was referred to a specialist in Chester that week. Operated on the following week and back on all fours within minutes of the operation. Regular Hydrothepy too, at the age of 13 she was still going strong walking two miles most days. On the horrid day of the 31st October when my spotty dog had, had a stroke she was PTS I can say the vets, receptionists were fabulous. One of the receptionist even help he carry my spots into the surgery. They feel the pain and sadness that we feel. In my opinion Abbey House put the animals first, the staff are alway friendly. I will return with the new spots MK2 when he/she is born.Read Less

Tonight i rushed a 5 week old collapsed rescue kitten to Abbey House. The vet was fantastic and the girl on reception was wonderful. They took him quickly and assessed him and got him on IV fluids. Not sure what the outcome will be but i know hes in the best hands and they are doing all they can to save him. He has had an awful start to life and i know that if he dosnt make it, its not because the vets havent tried or they didnt try everything.Read Less

My cat went in for his regular checkup as he was ill with cardio myopathy, the vet wanted to drain fluid off his chest again, so he was to stay in that day. As it was an early appointment I asked the vet if she could give him is morning medication as I hadn't done it yet. 20 minutes later, I hadn't even got home yet and I got a phone call, "Sorry your cat got stressed out when we were giving him his pills and he's had a heart attack, we gave him oxygen and adrenaline, but he died". 5 months he's been medicated at home without getting stressed out. Are you not professionals and trained in this? I decided not to complain, I didn't want to drag this incident out any further as it's been traumatic enough, I just decided I will never ever use Abbey House again. 3 weeks later you sent me a bill for 57 for the oxygen and adrenaline! I've never needed oxygen and adrenaline to medicate my cat, just love and care. It's all about the money with you guys. Even the meds you prescribed were 3 times more expensive than buying them elsewhere. You take advantage of vulnerable people who come to you for help and guidance, and you rob them, and kill their pet. And to send me this bill after you've killed him, is cold hearted sh*t, shame on you. You'll never see this money, and if you continue to send reminders, I will be making formal complaints.Read Less

We lost our dear 18 year old puss this year, when we had to say goodbye the staff were so considerate and so helpful at such a difficult time, they had been his vets since we first got him and his treatment was always first class, he had a cancerous tumour when he was 10 years old which they removed and we had another 8 glorious years with him. It was obvious to us that our dog was very ill so we took her to our usual vet out of hours who gave her an injection and some medication for an upset stomach. Her condition deteriorated rapidly and we feared for her life resulting in us taking her to Abbey House Hospital in Morley at 3.30am . From the moment we arrived the care and attention was amazing, within minutes she was on a drip and tests were being undertaken to see what the problem might be. She was diagnosed as suffering from Addisons disease and for 3 days the caring staff there nursed her back to full health and we cannot thank them enough. My 12 year old springer spaniel was admitted here late one evening with severe diarrhoea. I was unfortunately away on holiday at the time but Abbey House were fantastic and didn't mind me ringing every few hours to check on my dog's progress. They gave me accurate updates and reassured me that everything was OK. Once I returned from my holiday I was able to book a slot to visit my dog and I was really impressed with how she seemed and the way she had obviously been cared for. Our experience with Abbey House Vets in Morley was amazing. We accessed the out of hourse service with our very ill (at the time) 13 year old dog, Meg, who we believed was at the end of her life, but the fantastic care and staff at Abbey House nursed her back to full health. We had no worries at all leaving Meg in the capable hands of Abbey House staff, they allowed us to visit as often as we wanted, we called regularly, they updated us regularly, and they informed us of absolutely everything Meg had been given & done to her. We also saw Meg, and other pets in the 'wards' as we visited at a very busy time, and it was lovely to see the conditions are as expected; clean, friendly and professional. Stay away - my dog had a bloated tummy, on arrival they said they would do an ultra sound. There was no one there who could read it properly but still charged 450 and no answers. Then a few weeks later sent a bill for 2 x cans of dog food they forgot to give us which I had to pick up from Rothwell practise. On the break down of the bill for the cans were worth 3 and the fees were 27. I now have an ill dog with no idea what is wrong with her a bill for just shy of 500 and a very bitter taste in the mouth. USE A DIFFERENT VET!!!! Read Less

I can't remember the name of the vet that we saw but I didn't care for her attitude. She is the one that has a birth mark on her arm. One of our dogs has a lump that needs to be tested, she told us that when she carries out this test she always sends her samples off to a lab. She said this is because she isn't 100% sure when she looks at the sample. The cost difference is big, 85 for in-house and 135 for being sent out. It makes me question why this woman is running these tests?! If she can't judge the samples and is sending them away the client shouldn't have to pay the higher costs. She has booked us in with a different vet who specialises in this area however she should never be carrying out these tests. I'm sure the majority of people don't have money to throw away like this. Completely variable depending on which vet you get. Dr. Palmer has been the only vet I've seen who's acknowledged that my 8kg Norwegian Forest Cat is perfectly healthy and does not need to be stuffed with expensive prescription diet foods. Other vets tend to try and put hidden extras on top of already expensive treatment. My cats are my family, and I'm definitely willing to spend all I can on getting them healthy. But if, and only if, it's needed. Putting my female cat through an array of blood tests, stool samples, and prescription-only allergy diet cost me a small fortune and this could have been avoided if the vet had mentioned that GI symptoms can also be caused by stress. Furthermore, I wasn't happy with being told that tooth extraction was the only option to fix my cat's "severe gum disease". I agree with the other reviewer that they provide competent care, but are out to make a quick buck at the same time.Read Less

They are very much about money but they were the only vet to treat my dogs cancer with chemo and she had over a year of happiness. A vet told me to have my rabbit put down but Abbey house controlled his tooth problem for seven years. If you have pet insurance then the care is great for even the worse cases but if you are on a budget forget it. Read Less

I have been taking my cat with a heart problem for over six years. I see Dr Angela Boddy and trust her 100%. She is not money orientated as other reviews here suggest about the practice and is concerned only about my pets health. I am asked about tests before hand and I have to agree to it and am aware of the cost t the time. Its an excellent practice in my opinion. Anyone who puts cost before their pets health should think twice about having a pet- they should be like your family to you after all. Plus there are numerous insurances available which don't cost so much- just piece of mind in my view. I have to pay for my cats costs as it is a longstanding illness but i dont moan - I want him to have a long and happy life- and thanks to Dr Boddy he has had just that and is doing well.
