For more than 50 years Chantry Vets have been providing high quality healthcare for small animals from our practices across West Yorkshire, which include a Hospital, 2 Vet Centres and 7 Surgeries. We are also the only family owned Veterinary Practice left in the Wakefield district and strive to apply family values to our everyday work, as well as providing a genuinely friendly and caring service to our patients and clients alike.

Our new Veterinary Hospital is located at 180 Batley Road in Alverthorpe, Wakefield. Here we can offer a broad range of Surgical and Medical procedures, supported by experienced and professional staff with 24 hour on-site nursing support. We also have Veterinary Centres in Wakefield (Gill´s Yard) and Castleford (Church Street), plus supporting branch surgeries located in Normanton, Castleford, Outwood, Ossett, Middleton, Pontefract and Hemsworth.

Wouldn't take my pets anywhere else, the team of vets and nurses are always wonderful with my dog and the admin team more than helpful whenever we have paperwork for insurance to organise.

Always so gentle with my elderly cat. He needs medications and multiple blood tests throughout the year and the nurses and vets are always helpful. I do direct claims with my insurance which is easier for me and I just pay my insurance excess. The Wakefield practice is always lovely and clean and they have lots of parking outside. Read Less

Beware. Some drugs are marked up by over 100% and my insurance company disputed this, leaving me a with remaining balance that insurance wouldn’t pay out on. They also stopped doing direct claims with my insurer and failed to inform me before the consultation despite being told it was going through the insurance upon booking. They then told me I had to find £900 to pay for the operation up front and claim through insurance and when I declined, they still charged me the consultation fee. Poor communication and customer service. I no longer use this vets. Read Less

Hi Sam, We're sorry that you have been disappointed with the service received. Unfortunately we can't help when insurance make these deductions, or confirm where they get their information on prices. I can confirm that having checked your clinical records, the medication deductions made for £2.84 was for medication that did definitely not have 100% mark up on. VAT is however applicable at the standard rate and for all medications we charge a dispensing fee, which represents the costs involved in storing and prescribing regulated prescription medications. As insurers often lump all this into the 'mark up' category it can be misleading. With regards to your insurer unfortunately since September last year we experienced severe delays with payments (6-7 months to settle, so outside of out terms and conditions of our claim direct facility), in addition they stopped answering phone calls so we were unable to perform the in house checks required for claim direct. Whilst as a practice we actively promote responsible pet ownership and pet insurance as a part of that, we also take extra steps to remove boundaries to care by allowing a claim direct facility subject to approval. Unfortunately as we have been unable to secure information required to enable claim direct and untenable delays with direct payments we removed the claim direct facility for this individual insurer. This was not done without careful consideration but unfortunately we were not left with any other options. Should your insurer improve their current procedures, we would be happy to look at this again. Although you mentioned concerns about your consultation as under your excess, you can still claim for this and it will be added to any further claims for the same condition. To process this we would need a claim form made payable to yourself. We are sorry that you remain dissatisfied and trust you and your pets are doing well. Kindest regards Victoria, Chantry Vets

Hello, We are very sorry that we had to close the Normanton site with little notice due to the hospitalisation of a team member. Unfortunately these circumstances are beyond our control. We had a fully booked clinic and tried to contact all appointments to advise we were unable to proceed as planned. Whilst we are sorry for the inconvenience we would ask for your help and understanding during this worrying time. Like all local veterinary surgeries we are currently experiencing a huge spike in demand for veterinary services and we are trying our best to service the needs of all our customers and those who require emergency services that cannot be seen by their normal veterinary clinic. We appreciate our telephones lines are incredibly busy at present and we have put measures in place to offer email contacts through [email protected]. Our teams are working incredibly hard, with depleted numbers due to track and trace isolations and other factors. Thank you for your understanding.

I absolutely adore Pilar, the vet at Wakefield branch. She is thorough and gentle; obviously a dog lover, which was not the case at the chain vets inside the vet department store down the road. I don't feel pressured at Chantry, I feel like they want the best for both me and my dog. Pilar thoroughly examined my dog, which I didn't get in the initial examination at the aforementioned chain vet even though I paid or it. Chantry even offered me the exact medication I requested because I know it's cheaper than the ones offered by V4P (which they flatly refused to offer me, because they consider them 'old fashioned'). I love this vets, will definitely continue coming here. Read Less

Horrendous vets. Had 4 days of pure Hell. Had to go to another vets in the end as i was not prepared to pay another penny to them, and still had a poorly dog after they said that she needed more treatment after being spayed/pyo surgery and having her anal glands expressed. Payed not far off £1000 and in 48 hours i had to find that money otherwise i got advised i would have to have my dog put to sleep.  Customer service is shocking if you ever have to make a complaint with this vets you will understand. Also you can not review there Facebook page and it took 4 days to get my bill and even longer to get my clinical notes? Then to add a final insult offered to give me £2 credit and said that they had worked my bill out incorrect?  * ( from my working out was not) . Read Less

I can't recommend Chantry Vets in Alverthorpe enough. We have a 3 year old dog who is our best friend & companion. Unfortunately, he is also a rather poorly dog and has to go to the vets on a regular basis. The vet we see (Lisa) is fantastic! You can tell she loves her job and is brilliant with our some what unsociable dog. Lisa explains everything you need to know, and advises on the best treatment our little boy needs. She is always honest with us in regard to what's happening with our dog and what further treatment he needs as and when the time comes. I can't express enough what an amazing vet Lisa is and how impressed I am with the service we receive there. Keep up the good work Alverthorpe Branch! xxxxxx Read Less

Whilst my dad was busy signing the paperwork (the only information he was given!) he turned around to find the vet had already euthanized his dog without even giving him any warning!!! I put my cat in for an operation. Quoted 250 to 500. Got a courtesy call that it would be the upper end of 500. Turned up and suddenly they were charging 880!!! Be very careful with these guys.

Great experience.Yesterday my cat was hit by a car and I had to rush her throught to Chantry's Vets Gill's Yard surgery.They immediately took care of her and sorted out her broken leg and kept her in hospital for few days.I also was asked to pay only my excess on insurance and they then claimed directly form the insurance company-great relief on finances.All staff are very genuinely friendly and there is a very pleasent feel to the place (as far as vet practices go). I can't recommend Chantry Vets in Alverthorpe enough. We have a 3 year old dog who is our best friend & companion. Unfortunately, he is also a rather poorly dog and has to go to the vets on a regular basis. The vet we see (Lisa) is fantastic! You can tell she loves her job and is brilliant with our some what unsociable dog. Lisa explains everything you need to know, and advises on the best treatment our little boy needs. She is always honest with us in regard to what's happening with our dog and what further treatment he needs as and when the time comes. I can't express enough what an amazing vet Lisa is and how impressed I am with the service we receive there. Keep up the good work Alverthorpe Branch! xxxxxx Read Less

Completely money orientated, lack of compassion. Stole two blankets from my cat who was put down, one 25 years old and greatly sentimental. Never returned. Changed vets and would never recommend.

My dad has his dog put to sleep here a number of years ago... Without advising him what to expect, or even explaining the procedure to him... Whilst my dad was busy signing the paperwork (the only information he was given!) he turned around to find the vet had already euthanized his dog without even giving him any warning!!! My dad was devastated. Totally disgusting practice. You should be shut down and banned from working with animals... or even people for that matter.Read Less

I put my cat in for an operation. Quoted 250 to 500. Got a courtesy call that it would be the upper end of 500. Turned up and suddenly they were charging 880!!! Be very careful with these guys.

Great experience.Yesterday my cat was hit by a car and I had to rush her throught to Chantry's Vets Gill's Yard surgery.They immediately took care of her and sorted out her broken leg and kept her in hospital for few days.I also was asked to pay only my excess on insurance and they then claimed directly form the insurance company-great relief on finances.All staff are very genuinely friendly and there is a very pleasent feel to the place (as far as vet practices go). Very highly recommended!!! Read Less
