My rabbit was seen very soon after having been referred and GWE has a CT scanner. Mr Forbes seemed like a nice guy and a very knowledgeable, highly competent, driven and efficient vet. I was kept well informed and e-mails were responded to promptly. However, when I collected my rabbit, whilst I was informed that she could not close her eyelids fully, I was not told that her bilateral facial paralysis would prevent her from eating her caecotrophs and that she would have to learn to eat without using her lips, hence the 3 star review. The vet who discharged her informed me, after I had asked, that my local vet would be able to provide the required post operative care. That was poor judgement on his behalf; my local vet had just graduated from the RVC and had neither the interest nor the competency to provide the rabbit's post op. checks. In Mr Forbes' absence, the vets were unwilling to deal with me, but only with the referring vet, who was not interested: my rabbit continued to lose weight and even when her temperature was 37.4 and GWE staff had warned the referring vet about the possibility of GI Stasis, she did nothing. My rabbit ended up spending days in hospital with GI Stasis, thought to have resulted from the rabbit having been struggling to eat an adequate amount due to having to learn how to eat without the use of her lips. When I asked GWE staff why I was not informed of this when she was discharged, I was not provided with an answer. To be fair, GWE staff are not responsible for the incompetent and careless referring vet and when he found out about what had happened, Mr Forbes e-mailed the more local specialist who had taken over the rabbit's care. Vets Now admin staff were very inefficient; I was informed that my insurance company had not paid and that I owed the full amount, but it turned out that the problem was not with the insurance company, but that they had not received the claim form from Vets Now. Trust your instincts and make sure that you have a sufficiently competent vet who is willing to contact GWE vets if necessary, to provide aftercare, before you arrange for GWE to treat your pet.
