BE AWARE: If you have a "Big Scary Dog" or "A large potential fear biter" (as Dan Kerins had labeled my dog) you should not come here. Dan Kerins seems to have little experience with larger dogs. And considering comments in the past, it seems as though he needs to learn more about handling dogs that are under a state of stress. He is also very unprofessional in how to approach situations with clients; there is also a review about a year ago that is similar to my experience in how he handles matters. In a very rude, aggressive tone I was told multiple times to "learn how to control my 86 pound dog". I have an American bulldog mix that needed his teeth cleaned and some shots, while we were in the room with him he was being handled by 2 strangers and reacted as any other dog would have. Naturally, he just kept trying turn his head away from them. Dan Kerins had no compassion for my dogs panicky state nor try to properly introduce himself to me or my pet. How he handled the situation was reckless. It's hard to believe that Dan Kerins is a licensed professional with so many years of experience. I was also very rudely told that I should have told him to sedate my dog in the beginning. I, as a non veterinarian, had no idea how it should have worked out and by mistake thought that he knew what he was doing from the get go. This guy has very little interpersonal skills and definitely needs to learn how to communicate better to avoid blowing up on his clients. I personally did nothing to provoke him disrespecting me the way he did. I would also like to add that I have taken my dog to 2 different clinics in the past and had NO issues whatsoever with "how to handle my dog." Absolute waste of time coming here. I have no idea how this clinic received multiple 5 star reviews. Update: Went to another clinic and apparently, to avoid dogs becoming protective of their owners, they like to perform physicals without the owners present. Took them about 10 min to do my dogs physical with no issues. Easiest resolution to a bad experience. A best practice this place should to learn. Read Less

Can’t say enough about these folks. From day one Dr. Kerins has been fully attentive and answered every question and concern we’ve had. Dr. Abbot happened to be there the day we had to make the heartbreaking decision to put our dog down. Her empathy and concern meant everything. Just cannot say enough good things about the vets and the support staff at this clinic. Outstanding. I can't figure out why is seems to be so under utilized. First rate group of people. Dr. Dan and his staff are truly wonderful. I love my fur baby, but she can be, let's say, a little challenging. To have your vet and his tech literally sit in the floor with her to do her check ups, nail clipping, etc. really means so much to me. Love these guys! Read Less

My experience this afternoon with Dr. Kerins was easily the best experience I've ever had with a vet. My sweet feline child Waldo is getting up in age and is having a few health problems. I have cried and worried about him so much over the past week, so I brought him in to Alabaster Animal Clinic this afternoon to have him checked out. Dr. Kerins spent at least 30 minutes explaining things to me and was in absolutely no hurry to leave the room. He answered every one of my questions, reassured me that Waldo was in great hands, and overall made me feel more comfortable (while Waldo slept on the table). Their staff is super friendly, thorough, and prompt, and I just can't say enough good things about them. I'm so lucky to have this clinic close to our house! Read Less

We LOVE Dr. Dan. We have our puppy with him and just had to take our 13 yr old boxer to him to say goodbye. I honestly didn't think vets like Dr. Dan existed. The first visit with our puppy lasted longer than any vet appt. I have ever been to b/c Dr. Dan took the time to talk about the puppy's needs and gave us time to ask questions. He genuinely cares about the animals and wants to make sure you as the owners get all the answers you need. I am so glad we tried this vet and will not be switching.......ever. My cats and I both love this place! When I adopted a new kitten, I was referred to this clinic through the adoptee. I use them now exclusively for her health care needs. They are also very understanding about my oldest cat, who was poorly socialized, and who can not leave the house. They have been so great to help me find ways to get her great care without putting unnecessary stress on her. Dr. Duren was my vet for years before we moved out of state. I came back a decade later and the vet is still there. It has some new doctors, but they are just as good. The service, care and cost of treatment are very top notch and they are willing to work with you. I've tried other vets in the area, and they are all nice and professional, but Alabaster Animal Clinic is the best. Read Less

I have been using Dr. Duren at Alabaster Animal Clinic for 2 years now, and I have been pleased with the service I have received. However, I recently had an experience there which has prompted me to write a review. My cat, Charlie, started breathing heavier than usual. I called the office, and they said that they could see him right away. It turned out to be very serious, and they spent a great deal of time with him that day. Ultimately, nothing could be done for him, and we had to put him to sleep. Dr. Duren was very compassionate, but still completely honest with me. He waited patiently for my mother to get there to be with me when we put Charlie to sleep. I loved Charlie, and he was with me for 14 years. Putting him to sleep was very hard, but Dr. Duren's compassion helped make it the best that it could have been. The bottom line is that I think that Dr. Duren is a good and caring vet. I have been using Alabaster Animal Clinic for over 15 years. I have three dogs. They visit at least 5 times a year. I board them when we are away and they receive their annual shots there as well. Dr. Duren and his staff are great and always care for my ""kids"" as if they were their own. One of my kids Sabrina has had several surgery's there and has been treated great. They are the rudest uncaring Animal Clinic I have ever been too. The first time I called to set up an appointment they just hung up, did not say good bye ,have a good day or nothing. Then they did surgery on my cat and I had a friend to pick him up and I don't know what happen but the vet said he was offended by the person that picked up my cat (would not tell me what happen to make him offended)and would not take the suturs out of my cat when I went back for him to(which I paid him to when I paid for the surgery). I never have had a problem with a vet before. When I lived in Columbiana I took my animals to Dr. Thornburg and he was awesome.But living in Alabaster that is to far so , Dr. Day in Montevallo has my business from now on because he is also good at what he does.
