This is a wonderful place staffed by great people. Dr. Frederick is a caring vet who will take time to explain everything to you and give you her experienced opinion on your options. This isn't some cold business. There is a very much a community/family vibe here, which makes caring for your pet during difficult situations so much more endurable. We have a several year history with this vet office, and could not ask for a better place. The staff & doctors at Alford Avenue Vet Clinic are top notch & their expertise & attention to my precious weenie dog, Hidey Rose, helped to save her from impending paralysis! From the minute I got Hidey Rose, in February of 2010, they've always called her by name (and she only has had to come in for nail clippings & routine vaccinations!), every time I've walked in the door with her! They make us feel like she (and our family) are important & special & when I knew something wasn't right with my babygirl a few weeks ago, I took her in (didn't have an appointment) & they took her without hesitation to figure out what was wrong. Later that afternoon, Dr. Friddle called me personally to let me know Hidey needed emergency back surgery for a herniated disc & he & his staff had everything set up & ready at the Emergency Vet Clinic on Acton Rd with Dr Tony Ballagas & their staff ready to receive her with open arms & hearts. She received the absolute BEST CARE (as if she were a human-and to me, she is) & Dr. Ballagas performed intricate, delicate back surgery that Friday night & saved my sweet baby from paralysis. I can't thank everyone enough involved in Hidey's care, from beginning to end. Every single person who took care of us made me feel like Hidey was the most precious dachshund they were caring for (and they were caring for a multitude of animals!) & I am forever grateful to each & every person who loved on & cared for my sweet Hidey, as if she were their own dog. Everyone in my family has taken their animals to Alford Avenue for as long as I can remember! Dr. Friddle & Dr. Frederick (I haven't used Dr. Burke before) are absolutely fantastic. They take their time and are very thorough with any issues your furry friend may be having. I have spent upward of 15 minutes on the phone with them before discussing lab results...I don't even get that kind of time with MY doctor. :)Side note that no one likes to bring up, but it has always stood out to me: Whenever we have had to put a pet down, they have sent us a single rose along with a sympathy note, which I think is very classy. They know our pets are our family and they treat everyone with the utmost respect. I highly recommend them! Read Less

Dr. Frederick is amazing! We've used another vet for years but when my cat got sick yesterday I had to get him to a vet asap. I was familiar with alford because they do wonderful things for the Alabama Wildlife Center. I called and dr. Frederick was able to see us with very short notice. She was great with my 13 yr old cat barney, he was very comfortable around her! She did tests and fluids and everything to make him feel better and to find out what was wrong. It's a shame my human doctor isn't as great as her! Thank you for being awesome and caring so much! We'll be making a change to Alford for our fur baby needs! Read Less

I highly recommend Dr. Friddle at Alford Avenue Veterinary Hospital. He is kind, gentle, and has a wealth of knowledge. We used him for our bird for over 15 years, and now use him for our poodle. Just this past weekend, we called on Saturday morning with strange symptoms. Our dog was jumping up suddenly out of a sound sleep and had kept us up for two nights straight. Dr. Friddle spent nearly an hour with us, gently examining our baby until he found an explanation. He sent us home with a natural remedy in the hopes that he would not have to use treatments that would be more harsh on his system. He was back to his happy self by Monday. We've taken our dog to him for more than 5 years, and I realized during this visit that his notes were extremely extensive from our prior visits. He always takes the time with us and notes the tiniest details, which definitely helped on Saturday. We have also used Dr. Burke for dental work for him, as well. She is just as wonderful.Read Less

We have been taking our pets here since we moved into the area 8 years again. Dr. Friddle and Dr. Frederick are thorough and excellent veterinarians. The staff is very friendly and professional. We never have a problem getting in to see either vet. The one downside is that they are a little pricier than our previous vet but not enough to make us look for another clinic. Read Less
