On a recommendation from a friend, we started taking our dog here and have been for about 3 years and we couldn't be happier. The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful. The head veterinarian is great. She is so gentle and kind to our dog and takes time to answer any questions we have. They have boarding and daycare for your pet when you're away. We've boarded our dog there several times and have no complaints. They tell us he doesn't play much, he just likes to sit with the staff and get his head scratched.

I took my dog here two weeks ago because she couldn't get up and walk around. It turns out she has severe arthritis in her back. Shocking to me because she is only 7 years old. The doctor kept her for 5 days at the clinic. I was able to visit her every day and the staff was incredibly nice to me and I could tell they all loved my Gabby. When I was able to pick her up--she was walking normally again!! Many kudos and thanks to Altadena Valley Animal Clinic's staff, Dr. Grimes, and Dr. Hathcock for giving my Gabby a second chance at life! I highly recommend this clinic to everyone!!

Love the veterinarian, who is very caring, helpful and knowledgeable. Boarding needs some work. Boarded our dog in a suite with the expectation as outlined on their website dogs would be walked 3 times a day. Watched the room camera of our dog everyday and saw her go out once, maybe 2 times a day for a minute at a time each day. What disappointed us the most is that we watched them turn off the lights before closing for the night and our dog had not been taken out one more time or received one last check of her water and food. They are supposed to receive a bedtime story and a treat at night. We cancelled our reservations there for the following weekend.

I have recently started boarding my dog, Tinker, at Altadena Valley Animal Clinic. Before leaving my baby, I went by the place to check it out. The staff was very helpful and happy to show me every aspect of what my dog's stay would entail. They showed me the suites that they have, and while extremely nice, it was a little pricey for me. The kennel boarding was very reasonable and I was told I could bring whatever I wanted for Tink to have with her while she stayed. As I was touring the clinic I noticed that all the dogs in the kennel had lots of bedding and all seemed very happy. Tinker has stayed at the clinic three times now, and every time she comes home, she is happy. She even gets excited when we pull in the parking lot and is eager to go inside! (Never happened at our previous vet) I am very pleased with the staff, the vet, and the facilities. I would highly recommend Altadena Valley Animal Clinic!

I took my dog into this clinic when she was having some sort of allergic reaction. Her face was swollen and she was in agony pawing at herself. They took me right in without an appointment and the doctor immediately treated her. They had me leave her for a while and when I returned she was so much better!! The vet explained everything to me and didn't do anything without my consent. She obviously knows what she's talking about and I certainly trust her judgement! I will continue taking my sweetie dog to Altadena Valley!

I have taken my dogs to this clinic for years and the vet and staff here are always SO wonderful! My dogs love to board with them and are always clean and happy when I pick them up! Recently, Shug, my lab was hit by a car and had trauma to his chest and a broken leg. They were so compasionate, and helpful! He had to stay with them for about 4 days, and when he came home, he was like a new dog! I love you guys! You're the best!

Do not go to this animal clinic. I brought my cat there because he was having trouble breathing. They took xrays and told me it looked like he had asthma. So they gave him three shots, one an antibiotic, one a bronchodialator, and a steroid. He did not have a fever, but they suggested a sonogram which costs 350 dollars. I'm a student so that's a lot of money. I left with a a300 dollar vet bill. My mom told me to get a second opinion so I took him to his previous vet. He had a fever, and told me it was most likely caused by the steroid. They told me he had a respiratory infection, not asthma. They also said he didn't have the right antibiotic. So basically I spent 300 dollars for a vet to misdiagnose my cat, give him an unnecessary medication, and give him another that could have killed him if I hadn't taken him again today.

My cat was having difficulty breathing. I didn't take him to his regular vet because I was scared, so I took him to this clinic. They said he may have asthma. They prescribed an antibiotic, a bronchodialator, and a steroid. They also gave him shots of each. They also suggested I get a sonogram that costs 350.00. He did not have a fever. They scheduled the sonogram for later in the week. At the end of the day, I had a 300.00 dollar vet bill. Fine. The next day, because my mom suggested a second opinion. I drove him to his regular vet who basically said that he had a respiratory infection, he did not have asthma, and all I needed was antibiotics. The steroid suppressed his immune system so he got a fever. They said that the sonogram wasn't an emergency. That visit was 140.00. So I spent 300 dollars for them to misdiagnose my cat and make me feel like I needed to get a 350.00 dollar procedure immediately when his regular vet said that in the next week would be great, but if you have to wait a few months, that's okay. I paid for a medication that made him sick and another unnecessary medication. And...the antibiotic I got from Altadena was the wrong kind to treat what he had. So basically, I wasted 300 dollars that I cannot get back because they claim it's not their fault he got a fever and could have died.

The facilities are clean and well maintained, some of them even have webcams that I can watch my dogs on while on vacation!

I heard about AVAC from a friend and after seeing reviews on here I decided I would run by and check the place out for myself. In my experience the staff that ""greeted"" me was absolutely terrible. As I walked in there was a lady who was posted up at the front counter and I thought she was a customer so I waited patiently. The lady who was standing in front of me was head groomer and she resembled someone who had just come back from Woodstock or a Widespread Panic concert. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against either event, but I just expect their to be a level of professionalism that businesses should look to uphold. Anyways, she turned around to look and me and said ""Hey......"" in a completely unwelcoming way. I proceeded to speak with another lady who looked to be the receptionist and I asked her a little about the practice and then I asked her what her recommendations would be for an ear infection that my dog has. First off, when I walked into the place no one greeted me or seemed to be concerned that a potential customer just came into their facility. I would understand if they had a waiting room full of patients, but unfortunately this was not the case since the waiting room was empty. There was absolutely no enthusiam whatsoever in their staff. In my opinion, no matter what field you work in, great customer service is key to having a reputable practice and having repeat customers. If you want to take your beloved pet to a place where people sound like robots, say ""take a number and we'll look at your cat, dog, lizard or whatever your animal is"", and just blow you off than this is your place. I was not impressed in anyway with their frontline staff and I would much rather take my pet to a place where people care about their patients and really put forth effort in making their experience all the more enjoyable. With any kind of review I would certainly tell anyone to see for themselves what the business really is like, but in my experience I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

Disclaimer: I have not boarded my dogs here. I literally live right up the road and have considered it numerous times, but the reviews I have read scared me away.
Today my wife and I were passing by this vets office (at the Acton/Cahaba River intersection) and witnessed a dark haired male come out of the back of the clinic with a small black and white dog (appeared to be a Boston Terrier), carry the dog to the holding pen and then drop the little guy from about chest level.
I have 2 small dogs myself and am very well aware that nearly all breads (especially small) are often susceptible to hip, knee and back problems and that 3.5-4 ft drops are very dangerous to a dog (all dogs, but especially small dogs) - definitely not something I would be cool with my dog setter doing in my absence.
Again, I have not boarded here and so cannot attest via my own personal experience, though I did feel it important to relay what I saw... If this were my dog that I observed this treatment... Well... Lets just say that me and mr. dog setter would be having a very up close talk...
Some people don't care - so if "a dogs just a dumb dog" to you, then ignore me... But if you do care and your little guy/girl is part of the family that you just can't take on this trip, be wary of boarding here...
I know mine won't be staying here...

On a recommendation from a friend, we started taking our dog here and have been for about 3 years and we couldn't be happier. The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful. The head veterinarian is great. She is so gentle and kind to our dog and takes time to answer any questions we have. They have boarding and daycare for your pet when you're away. We've boarded our dog there several times and have no complaints. They tell us he doesn't play much, he just likes to sit with the staff and get his head scratched.

I took my dog here two weeks ago because she couldn't get up and walk around. It turns out she has severe arthritis in her back. Shocking to me because she is only 7 years old. The doctor kept her for 5 days at the clinic. I was able to visit her every day and the staff was incredibly nice to me and I could tell they all loved my Gabby. When I was able to pick her up--she was walking normally again!! Many kudos and thanks to Altadena Valley Animal Clinic's staff, Dr. Grimes, and Dr. Hathcock for giving my Gabby a second chance at life! I highly recommend this clinic to everyone!!

Love the veterinarian, who is very caring, helpful and knowledgeable. Boarding needs some work. Boarded our dog in a suite with the expectation as outlined on their website dogs would be walked 3 times a day. Watched the room camera of our dog everyday and saw her go out once, maybe 2 times a day for a minute at a time each day. What disappointed us the most is that we watched them turn off the lights before closing for the night and our dog had not been taken out one more time or received one last check of her water and food. They are supposed to receive a bedtime story and a treat at night. We cancelled our reservations there for the following weekend.

The veterinarians are wonderful! They are always gentle, supportive and friendly. However- the people who answer the phone and work at the desk are less than friendly. They act miserable.

I have recently started boarding my dog, Tinker, at Altadena Valley Animal Clinic. Before leaving my baby, I went by the place to check it out. The staff was very helpful and happy to show me every aspect of what my dog's stay would entail. They showed me the suites that they have, and while extremely nice, it was a little pricey for me. The kennel boarding was very reasonable and I was told I could bring whatever I wanted for Tink to have with her while she stayed. As I was touring the clinic I noticed that all the dogs in the kennel had lots of bedding and all seemed very happy. Tinker has stayed at the clinic three times now, and every time she comes home, she is happy. She even gets excited when we pull in the parking lot and is eager to go inside! (Never happened at our previous vet) I am very pleased with the staff, the vet, and the facilities. I would highly recommend Altadena Valley Animal Clinic!

I took my dog into this clinic when she was having some sort of allergic reaction. Her face was swollen and she was in agony pawing at herself. They took me right in without an appointment and the doctor immediately treated her. They had me leave her for a while and when I returned she was so much better!! The vet explained everything to me and didn't do anything without my consent. She obviously knows what she's talking about and I certainly trust her judgement! I will continue taking my sweetie dog to Altadena Valley!

Recently, Shug, my lab was hit by a car and had trauma to his chest and a broken leg. They were so compasionate, and helpful! He had to stay with them for about 4 days, and when he came home, he was like a new dog! I love you guys! You're the best!

Do not go to this animal clinic. I brought my cat there because he was having trouble breathing. They took xrays and told me it looked like he had asthma. So they gave him three shots, one an antibiotic, one a bronchodialator, and a steroid. He did not have a fever, but they suggested a sonogram which costs 350 dollars. I'm a student so that's a lot of money. I left with a a300 dollar vet bill. My mom told me to get a second opinion so I took him to his previous vet. He had a fever, and told me it was most likely caused by the steroid. They told me he had a respiratory infection, not asthma. They also said he didn't have the right antibiotic. So basically I spent 300 dollars for a vet to misdiagnose my cat, give him an unnecessary medication, and give him another that could have killed him if I hadn't taken him again today.

My cat was having difficulty breathing. I didn't take him to his regular vet because I was scared, so I took him to this clinic. They said he may have asthma. They prescribed an antibiotic, a bronchodialator, and a steroid. They also gave him shots of each. They also suggested I get a sonogram that costs 350.00. He did not have a fever. They scheduled the sonogram for later in the week. At the end of the day, I had a 300.00 dollar vet bill. Fine. The next day, because my mom suggested a second opinion. I drove him to his regular vet who basically said that he had a respiratory infection, he did not have asthma, and all I needed was antibiotics. The steroid suppressed his immune system so he got a fever. They said that the sonogram wasn't an emergency. That visit was 140.00. So I spent 300 dollars for them to misdiagnose my cat and make me feel like I needed to get a 350.00 dollar procedure immediately when his regular vet said that in the next week would be great, but if you have to wait a few months, that's okay. I paid for a medication that made him sick and another unnecessary medication. And...the antibiotic I got from Altadena was the wrong kind to treat what he had. So basically, I wasted 300 dollars that I cannot get back because they claim it's not their fault he got a fever and could have died.

I am able to make payments over time and I've never been dissatisfied with a groom. The facilities are clean and well maintained, some of them even have webcams that I can watch my dogs on while on vacation!

I heard about AVAC from a friend and after seeing reviews on here I decided I would run by and check the place out for myself. In my experience the staff that ""greeted"" me was absolutely terrible. As I walked in there was a lady who was posted up at the front counter and I thought she was a customer so I waited patiently. The lady who was standing in front of me was head groomer and she resembled someone who had just come back from Woodstock or a Widespread Panic concert. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against either event, but I just expect their to be a level of professionalism that businesses should look to uphold. Anyways, she turned around to look and me and said ""Hey......"" in a completely unwelcoming way. I proceeded to speak with another lady who looked to be the receptionist and I asked her a little about the practice and then I asked her what her recommendations would be for an ear infection that my dog has. First off, when I walked into the place no one greeted me or seemed to be concerned that a potential customer just came into their facility. I would understand if they had a waiting room full of patients, but unfortunately this was not the case since the waiting room was empty. There was absolutely no enthusiam whatsoever in their staff. In my opinion, no matter what field you work in, great customer service is key to having a reputable practice and having repeat customers. If you want to take your beloved pet to a place where people sound like robots, say ""take a number and we'll look at your cat, dog, lizard or whatever your animal is"", and just blow you off than this is your place. I was not impressed in anyway with their frontline staff and I would much rather take my pet to a place where people care about their patients and really put forth effort in making their experience all the more enjoyable. With any kind of review I would certainly tell anyone to see for themselves what the business really is like, but in my experience I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

Disclaimer: I have not boarded my dogs here. I literally live right up the road and have considered it numerous times, but the reviews I have read scared me away.
Today my wife and I were passing by this vets office (at the Acton/Cahaba River intersection) and witnessed a dark haired male come out of the back of the clinic with a small black and white dog (appeared to be a Boston Terrier), carry the dog to the holding pen and then drop the little guy from about chest level.
I have 2 small dogs myself and am very well aware that nearly all breads (especially small) are often susceptible to hip, knee and back problems and that 3.5-4 ft drops are very dangerous to a dog (all dogs, but especially small dogs) - definitely not something I would be cool with my dog setter doing in my absence.
Again, I have not boarded here and so cannot attest via my own personal experience, though I did feel it important to relay what I saw... If this were my dog that I observed this treatment... Well... Lets just say that me and mr. dog setter would be having a very up close talk...
Some people don't care - so if "a dogs just a dumb dog" to you, then ignore me... But if you do care and your little guy/girl is part of the family that you just can't take on this trip, be wary of boarding here...
I know mine won't be staying here...
