Sadie..my dog..loves this place. Doesn't matter what I think! (I do love it though) Sadie was made very comfortable by Dr. Christian. She's a rescue and came from a neglectful and abusive home. She's a little scared of new people and really only fully trusts mom and dad. She took to the doctor right away and I knew right then that this would be her permanent vet. He was very gentle taking her blood. In fact...you would think she was daydreaming about a bone. Never felt it. Great place.

If you are going to visit this practice, they do not do appointments, so it can make it difficult to see a particular doctor at a convenient time or in timely manner. E.g. We waited over an hour for a simple bordetella vaccine.
We didn't get to meet Dr. Stowe. Instead, we met w/ Dr. Christian and were very disappointed for a few reasons.
My dog's distemper vaccine wasn't due until 2018, but Dr. Christian insisted she receive it, even though I said I didn't want her to have it yet.
He also made us come back a week later for her bordetella vaccine in order to avoid a reaction with her rabies and distemper vaccines. I understand why this precaution is taken, but it's unusual to have owners do this when their dog is relatively young and perfectly healthy. In the years past, I've never run into this problem when taking my dog to get her annual vaccines. If anything, this could discourage an owner from coming back.
Finally, Dr. Christian tried to talk us into giving her the controversial lyme disease vaccine. He told us that lyme disease isn't treatable (it is). Again, I understand the benefits of taking precautions, but it very much felt like he was trying to use misinformation in order to scare us into buying another vaccine. I'm the type of person that makes sure my pets are always safe and protected (vaccines, flea/heartworm prevention, etc.), but this felt a little deceptive.
The cost of vaccines at this clinic are great, and the tech and reception staff are patient and fabulous! But we switched practices due to inconvenience and our unhappiness with this particular doctor. Our new doctor takes the time to educate us all aspects of good pet care, and bases his recommendations off of our individual pets' needs.

Dr. Stowe is the sweetest, most patient vet that I have ever been to. He has seen two of my cats now, and always takes his time to explain exactly what he is doing and why, and all possible reasons for their illness/issue. I've never left an appointment with questions or concerns that weren't addressed. I recently moved across town, but I drive the extra 20 minutes just to visit him. Also, my cats adore him! It's pretty cute how well behaved they are just for him :) The techs are always so sweet, and the receptionist is so nice every time I speak to her. We are moving across the country soon, and I worry that I won't find a vet that we love as much as Dr. Stowe - we will miss you!

The facility is very nice, and well kept. The faculty were all very friendly and helpful too. I have seen Dr. Christian every time we have gone, and he is very knowledgeable and funny! He also gives great tips on most anything you have questions about. All the negative reviews on him don't do him justice. He is great. My puppy, Roxy, was adopted from a local shelter, and she is funny about getting attention from new people. She and Dr. Christian hit it off the very first day they met! She is actually excited to be there...Just another note, in our past experience with Roxy and the vet, it has not been all that good. She has been on some sort of antibiotics for most of her 9 months. At our most recent visit, Roxy had to get a shot in the butt, and i was midway telling him he might need about 6 more people in the room to help hold her, when he just stuck her in the booty, it was over, and Roxy was begging for attention from him. She is only 30 pounds, but has super strength when people try to hold her down.I was completely surprised. His years of expertize with animals clearly showed through, and I think I had more anxiety about that shot that Roxy did! I just moved to the Birmingham area about three months ago, and am very happy we lucked up upon this vet clinic!

I am newly moved to Birmingham. I selected Montclair vet bc of location. Needed an annual checkup and shots for my 2 year old mixed breed dog. Dr. Stowe came into waiting room to meet his new patient....
I am newly moved to Birmingham. I selected Montclair vet bc of location. Needed an annual checkup and shots for my 2 year old mixed breed dog. Dr. Stowe came into waiting room to meet his new patient. Then we went to the exam room. Nice way to ease into the exam for my dog who was scared. Dr. Stowe was was gentle but adept at drawing blood, giving shots. The vet tech, Allie, held onto my dog and "loved" her during the process. Dr. Stowe was thorough and took a great amount of time to discuss dog issues such as types of food and flea / heart worm prevention. No sales pitch for products. The receptionist was pleasant. Clean office. I was very pleased with all aspects of the visit and look forward to returning. It seems all staff are first and foremost interested in the care of your pet.

He has seen two of my cats now, and always takes his time to explain exactly what he is doing and why, and all possible reasons for their illness/issue. I've never left an appointment with questions or concerns that weren't addressed. I recently moved across town, but I drive the extra 20 minutes just to visit him. Also, my cats adore him!
