Riverview Animal Clinic employs a great staff and the strong compassion for animals rubs off on them. One in particular is David Mullinax. My dog Chewy broke a nail all the way to the foot, and was bleeding everywhere. David came by my house on his day off and cleaned his foot, put a cast on it, and calmed my nerves. You can honestly tell how much compassion he has for animals. Even if that means going out of his way. The professionalism he showed is a clear view on how Riverview runs their clinic. Dr. Campbell and his tech David are absolutely amazing! They eased my nerves and I’ve never felt more comfortable leaving my dog in someone else’s care. Very genuine people! They took all the time and ran every test under the sun to try and figure out what was going on with my dog! Have used Riverview Animal Clinic since moving to Birmingham in 2006 for our dogs. The vets and staff are truly caring individuals who will go the extra mile to be helpful. They were supportive after we lost one of our dogs. I'm a regular w/ my Westie who has eye & skin problems and diabetes, and they treat him like he's "family". I even had to disturb one of the docs last Christmas morning to be able to drop off my dog for ongoing treatment in their ICU. Dr. Tate, Dr. Korsch, and all the other vets are awesome. I can't say enough about how wonderful everyone here is.  We were in town helping a friend who had surgery.  Our 15 pound Maltese ... Vito.... was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes about 2 years ago and we are definitely on top of his glucose levels and insulin injections twice daily.  Vito was acting odd and was having trouble walking, not knowing what was wrong and being away from home the first thing we did was Google animal hospital and Riverview came up and was 2 miles away.  We rushed Vito over, they probably thought we were crazy running in the door but it was a good thing we did, his glucose dropped to 28 (normal beginning around 120 or so for a dog.  They immediately gave him fluids, glucose and within a few hours he was on the road to recovery.  The physicians and staff are awesome, caring and kind.  Highly recommend!!!  Well deserved on the 5 stars wish I could choose more but it only allows 5 max. They are always very nice to us here. We haven't had to take our cat in for anything major yet, thank goodness. But, routine checkups are always smooth. We take our cat in for a nail trim every few months and we are always in and out within 30 minutes. We have a Bengal Cat and they seem to have some experience with this particular bread. Ever since our ferret required emergency treatment in the middle of the Alabama/Auburn game in 1997, and the veterinarian on call left his party and his TV to come care for Bink, we have been devoted to Riverview. My kids are grown, and I'm left with 2 big, clumsy, heavy, affectionate dogs and a loud squawking parrot. Riverview vets and staff are still on the top of my "friend" list! Whether it's boarding, nail clipping, feather chewing, diarrhea, routine care/vaccines, or fleas, I can always count on them to provide my furry and feathered children with state-of-the--art care and a loving and gentle place to board them if needed. Had an emergency ophthalmology visit today with Dr. Jana Korsh-Dismukes via referral from our regular Vet. Our 2 yr canine family member looked like Marty Feldman..bulging eyes in case you dont know Marty. Wonderful experience. Everything explained and cost estimated (very reasonable) before we started treatment. 100% pleased. And it was the Dr's day off but she came in, with her toddlers. This is the ONLY place we take our rats and hamsters. We have been going here since 2012 with our very first pet rat. We trust Dr. Alvin Atlas and Dr. Joseph Campbell implicitly with our animals. Dr. Campbell is so very kind, caring and understanding, and he actually listens to your input, which is fantastic. And Dr. Atlas is just amazing, such an extremely skilled surgeon. He's performed tumor removals and neuter surgery for our rats many times, and all went wonderfully. He performed tumor removal surgery on one of our rats, and he did such an AMAZING job, she healed up very quickly and you couldn't even tell that she'd had surgery! Even with his very busy schedule, Dr. Atlas always takes the time to explain things, answer all of our questions and makes us feel like a priority. I can tell he truly loves his work. The entire staff here are always so kind. On more than one occasion the clinic has called the day after a visit/procedure to check how my animals are doing; that shows they really care. We particularly love that they offer the Ophthalmology Specialist, Dr. Jana Korsch-Dismukes. Not only have our Chow Chows loved her, but we love her too! She is exceptional in connecting with our Chow Chows and offers exceptional skills in her field. She has performed successful entropion surgeries on our wrinkled fur babies more than once, in addition to her excellent treatment of chronic allergic eye problems. I walked in Riverview Animal Clinic yesterday with my bearded dragon, who had taken a leap about 5 feet. It was my first visit anywhere with Draco because at 7 months old he had been perfectly healthy in my eyes. I learned more yesterday about beardies than I had learned the past 7 months. The doctor & staff were amazing & took the time to explain to me exactly what Draco needed & gave me information to take home & read. Everyone is always so helpful. The doctors are excellent, they offer tests and have equipment for tests that many vet clinics don't have. They offer services 7 days a week and a doctor is available for emergencies on holidays even when they are closed. It's a warm and friendly place to bring your pet.Read Less

We have been going to Riverview for many years with multiple pets (our children). We have been there with cats, dogs, a duck and chicken. We've taken the kids in with everything from a check-up to serious illness and/or injury but we have always been happy with the knowledge of the staff & quality of care. Not satisfied with this clinic. If they didn't have a veterinarian that specialized in ocular issues we would have switched long ago. For every visit we had to wait 45-90 minutes in the room without being acknowledged. On the first visit, the vet tech began examining my dog for a completely different issue. We were having her eye checked and the vet tech began to talk about the injury to her leg. They had the wrong injury listed or the wrong paperwork, not sure which. Secondly, we were told that our dog needed eye surgery and to contact them when we made our decision or if we had questions. Numerous calls and an email went unanswered while our dog's vision deteriorated. On the day of the surgery we arrived to discover that no one knew what we were talking about and no surgery had been scheduled. Then, this week we woke up and our dog had lost all vision. We contacted Riverview to seek help. They were unable to see us until MAYBE the next day. By then our dog would have remained completely blind. In my dealings with Riverview Animal Clinic I have never felt heard or understood. Luckily, we discovered Dr. Nelm's at the Veterinarian Eye Clinic. She has since restored our dog's vision and been able to work us in twice for emergency visits. Read Less

We have a house full of reptiles and birds. There are a lot of vets who will treat exotics, but not very many who actually know what they are doing. Dr. Atlas is a gem. Kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable. I never feel rushed during our appts and he is always exceptionally thorough. He even once did emergency surgery on our lizard and saved her life! If you have pets that aren't run of the mill dogs and cats, you can feel confident that they will be well cared for in Dr. Atlas' capable hands. Read Less

Excellent Clinic! The staff saw me on short notice after the emergency clinic did not have someone available to perform an ultrasound on my sick dog. My primary clinic was having difficulties diagnosing what was wrong with her after a lot of blood work and x-rays. They do not have ultrasound so I needed to go somewhere that could offer that service. My little girl was seen my Dr. Campbell and he was awesome. He was very detailed and performed a thorough ultrasound/exam. Dr. Campbell was able to diagnosis and treat my pup and she is doing just fine! Thank you Riverview for helping me and my family. Also, I see a lot of reviews mentioning the expensive price for services. Yes, Riverview is not cheap. However, you do get what you pay for. If you want the highest quality service with expert staff you need to be willing to pay for it. Riverview is a God send me and my animal companions.  My cats just love Dr. Amy Tate she's been our Vet now for years.  She's not only very compassionate and loving but also very smart and knows her trade! Yet, Riverview has a host of great techs and Veterinarians that one can relay on!  It's great that they are open 7 days on have two late nights during the week. Dr. Atlas and Allison are very attentive and friendly. This was our first visit from a new state and our whole experience was great. The facility is fairly large for a vet clinic allowing efficiency throughout the while visit. Went to Riverview after an awful experience at the Emergency Medical Clinic on Acton Road. My 10# Papillon needed a rhinoscope and Riverview is equipped to do this test. I was scheduled quickly, everyone was friendly, I was seen promptly, every step of the visit was explained, and the clinic was clean!!! Dr. Campbell was thorough but very gentle with my furbaby, and was patient with me as well. I was very pleased with our specialty treatment and highly recommend this group if you need specialty testing or care for exotics. I found this vet on yelp because I needed to take my cat in to be groomed. When I made the appointment, the receptionist asked if it would be okay for the groomer to call me personally to explain the grooming options. She called me and spent time explaining everything she does and recommends. She was extremely kind and you could tell she takes pride in her job and treating animals with a lot of care. My cat always has to be sedated for grooming and for the first time in 4 years, he didn't have to be with this groomer. Amazing! She is a real find! NEVER BOARDING MY DOG HERE AGAIN.During Spring Break I came to this business to board my dog for a week. My mom had recommended it to me because we boarded one of our dogs here years ago. (This will hopefully be the one and only time this ever happens to a pet owner here.) On that Friday I went down to go get my dog. I go in and pay my $100 for a Monday to Friday stay which I thought was really good. Well the front desk lady I was working with pages the kennel employees in the back to bring my dog up. So ten minutes... twenty minutes go by... I didn't think it should take that long so I reminded them. I wait yet another 10 minutes (30 minutes so far after paying for there services) and they bring out a dog saying it is mine and I tell them that it wasn't her. So they take the other dog back and the waiting game continues. I keep asking them and telling them that I can go back there and need and find my dog. So 45 minutes into it I say something again and I guess this time they go get the manager. She comes up to me and guess what THEY SWITCHED UP THE DOGS AND GAVE MINE TO ANOTHER OWNER. I was not happy. Not going to lie I pitched a big fit. They said they didn't "lose her" but she wasn't at the clinic and she didn't have my permission to leave, in my view they lost her. The funny thing to me was that the only thing in common with my dog and the other dog they said was mine was that she was white and small. My dog had a microchip and the other dog didn't, the others dog face had brown in it, my dog is pure white, the other dog was spayed and mine wasn't. The other owners thought it was there dog because there dog was going to get groomed and sometimes dogs look totally different afterwards. The only part in this where I lucked out was that the owners that picked my dog up were good people and they gave her back as soon as we called them. The thing was that my dog was being boarded and there's was being groomed. Supposedly they staff are to not put similar breed or colored dogs near each other and they did causing a mix up. I did get my money back for the boarding but I will NEVER take my dog there again. I suggest if they have similar looking dogs there that they do a better job keeping them apart and identifying them better. With that said I'm sure that the other staff are great but I just cant ever risk that happening again. TOO much of a panic. Read Less

You can't beat their hours. They are open 7 days and until 9pm on Tuesday and Thursday. The staff is excellent- they all genuinely love animals and seem like they love their jobs. The vets are kind and knowledgable. I moved away for a year and still brought my dog here when I could. I am back in the area and so glad to be able to always bring my dog here. 5 stars for being the best clinic in the state for exotics.  We have three bunnies - Dr. Atlas and Dr. Campbell are the only two vets who see our bunnies.  It is very difficult to find quality veterinarian care for rabbits, turtles, birds, etc.  As far as rabbits, many clinics simply throw antibiotics at you.  Atlas and Campbell specialize in exotic pets. This is one busy clinic though.  And do be very careful on 280.  The location is centralized, but 280 is always a mess.  My white rabbit, Alice, has been to Riverview twice this year.  This past Friday, we left her overnight for tests.  Her health issues proved to be obscure:  it looks like she's a diabetic bunny.  Apparently, Alice is the first case of diabetes that they've seen in a rabbit.  There are not many animal hospitals that would have put as much effort into diagnosing a bunny. Just moved to Birmingham from Florida for work its been 45 days since been here because of moving expense unable to do checkup immediately. Politely asked Vet if I was able to buy 1 mo of heart worm Medication at the time till I could financially bring them in for a full checkup and purchase the year or just have heart worm test so I could buy 6 mo supply. Vet refused both options saying I would need to do a full workup/checkup and become a client before they would help me which to me is a vet that cares more about there bottom line then the pets themselves. If I didn't spend 4,000 dollars on a move this wouldn't be the issue and they my pets would have been enrolled at this Vet just do to a friends recommendation. Since they didn't wanna work with me for the first 30 to 60 days shows its more about the money then your animals and gaining clients. Read Less

There are cats/kittens available for adoption, a full line of dog/cat foods, some animal accessories, this clinic has truly designed it's practice around their customers and animals!
