General Info
Alford Avenue Veterinary Hospital was begun in May, 1981 on top of Shades Mountain in Hoover. We cater to dogs, cats, birds and small mammals.
We offer complete medical and surgical care as well as diagnostics, including radiology, ultrasonography and a complete in-house lab. We have an in-house pharmacy for all your prescription needs and can mail them to your home if needed. We have on-site boarding for all size pets. We do some grooming at the hospital but have a full-service groomer next door. We have office hours Monday through Saturday and are open for 1 hour on Sunday afternoons for picking up boarders.
We have 3 Veterinarians on staff: David Friddle, Stacy Gilbert, and Lisa Frederick. We have 4 licensed Veterinary Technicians to help us offer the best care possible for your pets.
We have Hills, Purina, and Royal Canin prescription diets available for support of any medical problems. We have a variety of nutritional suppliments, grooming supplies, and other items to enhance your pets lives.

Dr. Susan Stark has cared for all of my friends for about 15 years. You would have to look long and hard to find a more sincere vet. Highly recommend.

All of my previous vets struggled with my cat's aggressive behavior towards vets and stuff members. However, Dr Stark and her team can handle my big boy without any issues. He is finally getting the right treatment for his bladder and kidney issues and I feel that I can trust her and her judgement.

I've used Dr. Stark for years and for multiple pets. She is caring and compassionate toward the animals. My dogs LOVE her! I would highly recommend her to anyone needing a great vet.

I generally don't review anything but I have to tell you what a great vet Dr Stark is. She cares about you and your pets. She really cares and it shows. Beyond her veterinary skills which are amazing she has great knowledge and insight that comes from years in her profession and love of animals. We just moved to RI and finding a replacement vet is harder than finding a doctor for myself. My adult kids still drive back to her from Auburn and Montevallo with their pets. She's that good!
