Thank you to the Avondale Animal Hospital Team! It was so convenient for me to drop Charlie off for her annual vaccinations and speak with the vet over the phone after he had examined her. I did not have to miss any work. All staff we interacted with were courteous and helpful. Charlie didn't seem to mind going with the receptionist one bit!

I called with a sick dog one morning and they made time to fit me in. They even came next door to playcare where my dog was staying, picked her up and examined her without me there. Then, Dr. Atchison called to update me and had time to answer questions and make sure I was comfortable with the medications. Would definitely recommend!

Dr. Harris is a wonderful person and an amazing diagnostician. Almost 20 years ago we brought a cat to him for a second opinion on treatment that wasn't working. He identified the real problem and had our kitty on the mend right away. He has looked after all of our cats since then. He is wonderful with each cat--kind and caring--and they all like and trust him. He has seen us through illnesses and adoptions, and we wouldn't go to anyone else. Wonderful vet; wonderful person!

Magellan has been with Dr Harris for the past 3 years. He is very thorough and yet you never have to wait for long. He is super patient with Magallan and now with Archie. They are very flexible in trying to get appointments for working people. They will let me drop off Magellan for routine shots then pick her up when she's ready. They have street parking and a dedicated lot, which is helpful when unloading nervous dogs. I feel like they charge less than most vets we have been to in the past. And you can buy individual pills which is helpful when you have a growing puppy and only need one of a certain dosage. I only wish they were open on Sundays since Magellan scratched her eye and we had to take her to another vet (although they were fine) it just wasn't the same!

After shopping around vets in Birmingham, we took our dogs to Dr. Harris at Southside Animal Hospital in 2009. He is the most thorough and compassionate vet we've had to date. When we moved away in 2013, we realized that Dr. Harris has set the bar impossibly high. Our beloved Airedale is possibly facing lymphoma and after our local vet advised courses of treatment we called SAH to get Dr. Harris' thoughts on the matter. He was in surgery; he called back within a couple of hours and talked with us at length. Parting with SAH was one of the more difficult aspects of leaving Birmingham yet we know we weren't 'dropped' as clients since our dogs' records are still on file. He and his staff are superb.

This was my little Roxie's first post-adoption trip to the vet. I'm a newbie at this and felt like a first time mom or something. I was concerned because while Roxie is a little angel to me, she can become a bit...snappy when it comes to others handling her. I was unsure of where I wanted to take her, so I decided to consult Yelp to give me some advice. After reading the reviews, I decided on Southside Animal Hospital. The 5 stars for Southside are well-earned. Dr. Harris and his staff are very caring and professional and helped my little Roxie (and her anxious mommy) to feel right at home. He throughly answered all of my questions and gave me some very helpful tips for my sweet but feisty little Roxie. Upon leaving, my car stalled and I had to wait for roadside assistance. The receptionist came to the car and checked on me and even suggested that I let her know if I needed anything or if Roxie and I wanted to come back inside. That's what I call stellar customer service. I can't say enough great things about Southside Animal Hospital. I'm so happy I was able to find such a great vet for my little furry baby and we will be returning for all of her future needs.

So happy with this Vet! After our dog needed to stay the weekend at the Emergency room and have emergency surgery we needed somewhere to take her the next week to make sure she was ok. Not only was the staff great and accommodating but it was incredibly affordable too! Daycare boarding is under ten dollars and even the full vet bill with medication was much cheaper than expected. They don't charge for stitches removal or follow up visits. The vet was very kind and willing to take all the time to explain everything to me until I felt comfortable.

I cannot speak highly enough of all the wonderful, caring folks at Southside Animal Hospital. Not only are they top-notch at caring for my dog, but they genuinely care about him and ME as the owner. They always work with me to fit me in when I over-panic and they carefully explain any issues to me to make me a vital part of caring for my animal. They are all truly terrific people and are super to work with. I recommend them to anyone looking for a caring partner in raising their animals.

Rosie has high love needs. This may seem like something any dog-obsessed person might say about his or her furry friend, but I'm being more than serious here. Rosie's love cup will never overflow- she actually requires snuggling before she will eat. Every single day. So, when it comes to veterinary care, I have to choose wisely. Only a place that will take her special needs into account are up for consideration, and, luckily for me (and Rosie), Southside Animal Hospital's staff has gotten to know, love and understand my crazy dog so well that she willing runs to the back when it's time to board (or "go to camp" as we refer to it) or if she has to get a check-up.They are sweet, accommodating (last minute trip? they'll work hard to fit you in) and committed to providing high quality care. I don't have anything negative to say, only a suggestion. Rosie's first vet in North Carolina offered an "extra walks and play time" option when boarding, and I would love to have that again for Miss Rosie. And Rosie agrees- she enjoys her high maintenance status. :)

We have been taking our cats to Southside Animal Hospital for over 20 years now. Drs. Harris, Busby, and all the staff - Janet, Billye, Claire, and many others - have taken the best of care of our animals, through routine examinations, "war wounds", cancer, and old age. When I had to make the toughest decision to put my childhood pet down, they displayed such sensitivity, and I clearly remember Claire crying as if she had lost one of her own. Even when living in another city more than 2 hours away, I drove my cat to Birmingham for her routine care to continue this relationship.

They are very flexible in trying to get appointments for working people. They will let me drop off Magellan for routine shots then pick her up when she's ready. They have street parking and a dedicated lot, which is helpful when unloading nervous dogs. I feel like they charge less than most vets we have been to in the past. And you can buy individual pills which is helpful when you have a growing puppy and only need one of a certain dosage. I only wish they were open on Sundays since Magellan scratched her eye and we had to take her to another vet (although they were fine) it just wasn't the same!

After shopping around vets in Birmingham, we took our dogs to Dr. Harris at Southside Animal Hospital in 2009. He is the most thorough and compassionate vet we've had to date. When we moved away in 2013, we realized that Dr. Harris has set the bar impossibly high. Our beloved Airedale is possibly facing lymphoma and after our local vet advised courses of treatment we called SAH to get Dr. Harris' thoughts on the matter. He was in surgery; he called back within a couple of hours and talked with us at length. Parting with SAH was one of the more difficult aspects of leaving Birmingham yet we know we weren't 'dropped' as clients since our dogs' records are still on file. He and his staff are superb.

This was my little Roxie's first post-adoption trip to the vet. I'm a newbie at this and felt like a first time mom or something. I was concerned because while Roxie is a little angel to me, she can become a bit...snappy when it comes to others handling her. I was unsure of where I wanted to take her, so I decided to consult Yelp to give me some advice. After reading the reviews, I decided on Southside Animal Hospital. The 5 stars for Southside are well-earned. Dr. Harris and his staff are very caring and professional and helped my little Roxie (and her anxious mommy) to feel right at home. He throughly answered all of my questions and gave me some very helpful tips for my sweet but feisty little Roxie. Upon leaving, my car stalled and I had to wait for roadside assistance. The receptionist came to the car and checked on me and even suggested that I let her know if I needed anything or if Roxie and I wanted to come back inside. That's what I call stellar customer service. I can't say enough great things about Southside Animal Hospital. I'm so happy I was able to find such a great vet for my little furry baby and we will be returning for all of her future needs.

So happy with this Vet! After our dog needed to stay the weekend at the Emergency room and have emergency surgery we needed somewhere to take her the next week to make sure she was ok. Not only was the staff great and accommodating but it was incredibly affordable too! Daycare boarding is under ten dollars and even the full vet bill with medication was much cheaper than expected. They don't charge for stitches removal or follow up visits. The vet was very kind and willing to take all the time to explain everything to me until I felt comfortable.

I cannot speak highly enough of all the wonderful, caring folks at Southside Animal Hospital. Not only are they top-notch at caring for my dog, but they genuinely care about him and ME as the owner. They always work with me to fit me in when I over-panic and they carefully explain any issues to me to make me a vital part of caring for my animal. Rosie has high love needs. This may seem like something any dog-obsessed person might say about his or her furry friend, but I'm being more than serious here. Rosie's love cup will never overflow- she actually requires snuggling before she will eat. Every single day. So, when it comes to veterinary care, I have to choose wisely. Only a place that will take her special needs into account are up for consideration, and, luckily for me (and Rosie), Southside Animal Hospital's staff has gotten to know, love and understand my crazy dog so well that she willing runs to the back when it's time to board (or "go to camp" as we refer to it) or if she has to get a check-up.They are sweet, accommodating (last minute trip? they'll work hard to fit you in) and committed to providing high quality care. I don't have anything negative to say, only a suggestion. Rosie's first vet in North Carolina offered an "extra walks and play time" option when boarding, and I would love to have that again for Miss Rosie. And Rosie agrees- she enjoys her high maintenance status. :)

We have been taking our cats to Southside Animal Hospital for over 20 years now. Drs. Harris, Busby, and all the staff - Janet, Billye, Claire, and many others - have taken the best of care of our animals, through routine examinations, "war wounds", cancer, and old age. When I had to make the toughest decision to put my childhood pet down, they displayed such sensitivity, and I clearly remember Claire crying as if she had lost one of her own. Even when living in another city more than 2 hours away, I drove my cat to Birmingham for her routine care to continue this relationship.
