Vetcare of calera has treated my 2 year old dog ever since he was 6 weeks old. He has limped for almost a year and Dr. Hicks assured me that he was not in pain. After she took X-rays she said he is a bigger dog and his knee scarred in that way. I took my dog to two other vets and they both confirmed to me that he has ACL tears in both legs and needs surgery to repair. I am beyond furious!!! He had classic symptoms from the way he sits, walks, and the mobility that he has that ANY vet should be trained to know!!!! Dr. Hicks I hope that you are reading this and learn to be more thorough with your exams. I will not be trusting you with the care of my animals anymore. Also two days after you saw one of my other animals, you had a substitute vet in office when we had to come back again. You missed the fact that my other dog had a yeast infection. I hate to see that one bad experience from one client who happened to write two negative reviews under a different name bring this place down. I understand how hard it is to lose an animal, we lost our dog of 13 years last year and the staff of Vet Care of Calera was nothing but compassionate and understanding. They provided us with a casket and even wrote a note on it saying RIP. The next week they sent us a card wishing us the best with all of their signatures on it. We carry our Morkie there for all her shots and if she gets sick. They also keep our cat (Jake from state farm) just about every other weekend. He gets excited when he gets there and they all come running to see him. We have yet to have one single negative experience here and that is saying a lot for a business. I take all of my animals here. Two cats and two dogs. Dr Hicks is great and has even been willing to examine my exotics when I'm unable to make the trip to Birmingham (I brought her a frog fecal to test for common parasites). After my family tried a couple other vets in the area since moving here this year, finding Dr. Hicks and the entire staff at VetCare of Calera was a site for sore eyes. In the last couple months I've been to the hospital for an emergency surgery on my 6 week old puppy (Dr. Hicks saved his life!), regular exam and vaccines and a laceration repair on another dog. The staff is knowledgable and available to me with any questions or concerns, the clinic is incredibly clean and modern. Most importantly, Dr. Hicks is a really good veterinarian. You never feel rushed, she takes the time to make sure you know what she thinks is wrong and what it will take to fix it and she's really kind. My dad is a veterinarian and I managed vet hospitals for nearly 20 years before moving to Alabama; so I am reviewing with confidence and knowledge. Very highly recommended.
