I need to let everyone know that my chihuahua-dachshund mix died because I took her to Dykes Animal Hospital on Friday, August 31, because of swelling on the side of her mouth, and they prescribed an antiibiotic that killed her. When I took her to the vet's office, she was happy and rambunctious. We went to this veterinarian because we were forced to evacuate to a friend's house because of Hurricane Isaac. By using a syringe to drain the swollen place, the veterinarian noticed a little blood at the end of the syringe, and declared it an abscess, even though she was not running fever. I told him she had been given Clavamox for months before getting her teeth pulled, because of a kidney infection. He prescribed SMZ-TMP and Clindamycin. She spit out her first dose of the SMZ-TMP on Friday, so Saturday morning, I put it on wet food. She had five doses (two per day) before I realized something was wrong on Monday, so I discontinued her meds and rushed her to my regular veterinarian in New Orleans first thing Tuesday morning. They told me that not only did she not have an abscess, but a swollen gland, that she was now in renal failure, and put her on an IV. By the afternoon, she was much better, able to stand and walk again, and even eating at the end of the day. She died in the night of renal failure. I have tried to contact the vet in Foley. asked them to call my vet for more information, so that this does not happen to another baby, but no response or even acknowledgement that they have received my messages. My dog was elderly and incontinent, but she was in no way sick when she went to that vet's office. SMZ-TMP kills older dogs with kidney issues. I want someone to learn from what happened to my baby girl. I know the veterinarian, Dr. Shriver, didn't mean to kill my dog, but his prescription did. RIP Cleopatra. I would give them zero stars if it was an option. This review won't bring my baby back, but maybe it will help someone else, or maybe some veterinarian will read this and learn from it. That's all that I can ask for at this point. Read Less
