I adopted an elderly chihuahua with a terminal illness and when she's having problems, we're in constant contact -- even calling in prescriptions to a different state when we were on vacation. Horrible Place. By far the worst Veterinarians I have ever taken an animal to. They do not care at all about the animals. I brought my Cat in here because he would not eat for days and clearly something was wrong with him.. I asked if they could run blood test, etc to see if something serious was wrong with him.. and earlier the day before he has jumped off the porch and sprained his ankle so all they wanted to do was a $250 X-ray to see if his leg was okay after extensive back and forth I said okay go ahead and at which point yes his leg is fine after their $250 xray. Still no help with his eating. And I asked to have his fleas treated as he has never had fleas when we lived on 280 and I took him to the vet on 280. I bring him here and they ignore me about he hasn’t eaten in days to waste time and my money on a leg I knew was okay.. then tell me oh some cats go through phases where they won’t eat. Then two weeks later my cat is still covered with fleas and I call to ask why and the tell me oh well revolution flea treatment doesn’t actually keep fleas off of him it just kills them after they bite him. Oh. Well I asked you to keep the fleas off him. Isn’t that why I paid over $300? And he has never had fleas before in 18 months he has never had fleas on him yet now after changing vets he is covered and when I call I get absolutely no help whatsoever just well perhaps you should call someone to treat your yard. Wow. Is all I can say. I actually thought highly of this place. People spoke good about it. This is the worst excuse for a veterinarian I have ever experienced. Go anywhere but here if you care about your animals in any way. These heartless extortionists don’t deserve to have a practice. Joshua & Kelli B. -June 21st 2018 😾🙀👎🏾👎🏼🐶 Read Less

There are no words to say how impressed and thankful I am for Mercy Animal Hospital in Gardendale. Amari had torn her ACL and I was torn between vets to take her to. I decided on Mercy. They have a vet there (Dr. McKim) that does ACL and leg surgeries all the time. So I felt most comfortable taking her there. I was extremely nervous about her having surgery so when I brought her in I asked to speak to him and he took time out of his schedule (it wasn't an appointment, I was just dropping her off and he was on vacation when I initially took her in) to sit and talk with me for about 20 minutes. He explained every detail of the surgery with a model of the bones and ligaments while also explaining everything else they were going to do and why. So I dropped her off and a few hours later he called to explain that her ACL had actually healed itself-or had already done what the surgery was going to do- and doing the surgery would be unnecessary. He then told me to let's start from the base and work our way up from there since she is still limping. So he thinks it may be osteoarthritis and wants her on joint supplements and glucosamine. He could have easily done the surgery and charged me a lot of money and I would have never known the difference. Instead he didn't want to put Amari through the recovery process. So she got her teeth cleaned and we got to pick her up that day. Well the next day they called to check on her to see how she was (she still had anesthesia for the teeth cleaning) and if she ate or drank yet. And then to top of all the excellence, today in the mail we got a package for Amari. A little stuffed Clifford dog and a get well soon note. We may not be done with trying to get her leg fixed but Dr. McKim and the staff at Mercy will give me the best options for her and help us the whole way. I recommend this vet to anyone that has animals! Even though it's a little bit of a drive I won't go anywhere else. Thank you all at Mercy for taking the absolute best care of my baby. I appreciate you more than you know!Read Less

We have been using Mercy for just over a year now and they have always taken good care of us, until this last visit. We just returned from a week vacation in which we had our Maltese fixed and boarded. Surgery was scheduled for a Monday, but was done on Friday without our knowledge. We got a call on Saturday asking how she was doing. Problem was THEY had her. Ok just a mistake, right? Nope, then we got another call on Thursday, same thing and again I said I don't know, YOU have her. It's a little unsettling to say the least. We got her back yesterday to find her covered in urine, feet, belly, face all were yellow. Then noticed she had a huge tick on her forehead, which I will add wasn't there before. It was very disappointing knowing that we have been very pleased with everything else we've had done at Mercy. Read Less

I like the staff and veterinarians who work at Mercy. Unfortunately they have more business than they can professionally handle. If you call to ask a question, there is no one to help you. And even if you have an appointment, the wait is comparable to being in an M.D's office. I like a more personal approach for my pets which is the reason we use another veterinarian. As for the comments about pricing, we found Mercy to be no higher than others. Our decision was strictly based on the wonderful caring treatment our pets receive at another facility. Read Less

I adopted a dog 3 months ago that had been taken to Mercy Animal Hospital by her previous owners so I decided to keep her with Mercy due to convenience. When I adopted my dog I decided to take her right over to Mercy to get a check up and verify her records and make sure she was up to date on all her vaccinations. I had a good experience with the vet and was informed she was up-to-date on all of her vaccinations and they were also able to tell me her actual birthdate. I found out 3 days later when I took my dog to daycare and she developed kennel cough that she was not up-to-date on her kennel cough vaccination. I called Mercy to schedule a time to take her right over to have her receive the vaccination they missed. I was told to show up at 1:00pm and it would be no problem to get the vaccination done quickly. I showed up at 1:00pm and ended up sitting in the waiting room for 30 minutes. (May I also add I live a good 25 minutes away). I was furious and the staff at the front desk knew the situation at hand and didn't try to accommodate me for all my frustration. She received the vaccination and we left. Another frustrating situation occurred when I went up to Mercy Animal Hospital a few weeks ago to request her records for our move to Atlanta and they didn't have any record of my dog in the system. The asked "are you sure your dog has been seen here?" Of course I was sure and had to give them the last date she was seen in the clinic in order for them to pull up her records. They printed them off for me and I left. After reviewing the records I noticed they had my dogs birthdate as the first time we were seen in the clinic, under my name, minus 2 years. I was told her previous records were pulled over from her previous owner to myself. Apparently, something went wrong and now I don't have my dogs accurate birthday. And the birthdate they told me on our first visit was not accurate. I can't speak for the care the vets give at Mercy but I am very disappointed in the office staff. Every time I have been it was been so chaotic in the waiting area and the staff is rushing around. Hence, the mistakes. If you can't handle the patients/pets that you have please don't add anymore to your practice. Each pet and pet owner desires your undivided attention. Luckily I have had a MUCH better experience taking my cat to a different vet in the Homewood area. Read Less

I took my doggy baby there to get her annual shots and check up. We were new to the area and needed to find a vet. This clinic was recommended to me by a friend of mind who has lived in the area for a long time.I was impressed. I didn't have to wait much longer than the time it took to fill out the new patient forms. The appointment went quick, the vet answered all of my questions thoroughly. They acted like they were taking care of a baby. (She really is one.) They were so sweet to her, even though she did get a little growly when he approached her while she was in my lap which is typical for her.I was surprised too that the bill didn't break the bank. After moving to the area, we needed to find a vet for our several pets, and Mercy was one of the recommendations. Just off I-65 at the Fieldstown Road exit, the office is easily accessed, although the parking lot is a bit challenging to navigate. The staff is amiable and capable, and they've cared for a stray mother cat we took in, her kittens, the two cats we already had, and our dog, all with satisfactory results.Pricing seems to be about average for doctor visits and medications. We've been getting flea & tick/heartworm meds online, so I'm not sure what their prices are for those items. Mercy also carries some Science Diet pet food items and the standard collars, leashes, training treats, etc. that can usually be found in a veterinary office.Grooming (from a basic bath and nail clip to more extensive trimming/clipping/shampooing provided by a groomer on staff) and boarding services are also available. I was seeking help for my dying kitten and the receptionist showed no mercy. She only offered me a seat in the waiting room. I was told the doctors were taking a two hour lunch and the vet tech would take care of my dying pet. They would not let me stay with her. I left and found a more compassionate vet elsewhere. There is no mercy at Mercy Animal Hospital. I would never recommend their "$ervice$" to anyone. Read Less

i know i have already complained and i am not one to leave a review at all let alone two but today i was taking my new-ish dog jasper to the vet after three hours of vomiting. we called because we were worried and they said to bring him in immediately because the symptoms could be deadly. so we hurried there only to wait FOREVER then once we went back she kept trying to do things to make it cost more then finally after his shot he got oral medicine but the vet tech just forced the seringe into his mouth and a tooth was knocked out he has been drooling blood for hours now and we will NOT be going back. Mercy Animal Hospital has outstanding Vets, staff and facilities. Our experience has been primarily with Dr Miranda Trammell and she is the most gifted veterinarian I've ever known -- her professionalism, knowledge and skill is unparalleled. Her compassion and empathy is boundless. The facility advertises that it is a place where they treat your pets like their own -- well that has absolutely been our experience. Dr. Trammell and all her staff (especially Allison and Kat, outstanding vet techs and compassionate human beings) will always have our deepest gratitude and appreciation for all they have done for our sweet Clementine and also Winston.

Read Less

I cannot say enough good things about Mercy Animal Hospital.  The staff is always friendly,  quick and helpful.  I have taken my cat (Sadie) to both Dr. Trammell and Dr. McKim and we were pleased with each visit.  I adopted Sadie from a kill shelter in Florida and she carried a rare parasite that was overlooked by two other vets; one in Florida and one local.  Dr. McKim at Mercy was able to detect and treat her condition with a 5 day medication.  He was very gentle with Sadie and answered all of my questions. The staff handled/submitted all the insurance forms that day.  A few days later they called to make sure Sadie was feeling better! They truly care about your pet and I recommend them 100 percent!
