This was my first and LAST visit to this business. My Chihuahua, Paco needed his nails trimmed. I called to find out if I needed to schedule appt, I was told no, that service was available by "walk in". So on the advice of the staff I did just that. Well, after waiting 10 minutes at the desk while the reception totally ignored me. Once she FINALLY assisted me, I got paperwork done and was waiting for Paco to be called back... I waited over 1 hour, simply to trim my dogs nails. And if that want bad enough, when they did call for Paco, I had to go back and hold him myself while he's nails were clipped, and I was charged nearly $10! I could've done that myself, at home a lot quicker had I known. But I assure you I won't be going back... Ever! Read Less

First all the staff was rude, i nutured my puppy in their own hospital and when I took him again the doctor didnt even know if it was nutured or not, the doctor was rude with an attitude and i felt like they were super racist just because we were latino. I noticed my dog trembling so I called to ask a nurse a question. I didn’t receive a call back so two days later I called as a reminder. The Dr. got on the line and said “you were told to come in so I’m unsure why you’re calling back”. I told her that though those were her orders nobody called back to let ME know. She instructed me to bring the dog in Saturday. I was told would be a regular office visit and would cost $42.50. On Saturday we bring her in, only to be told that the dr was not in. The chart was even already out and noted that we would be coming in and needed to the doctor. During our visit the technician never once touch our dog. We even asked if her ears could be checked since she’s prone to have an ear infection. Still nothing!!! The tech again reinstated that there was nothing he could do without a dr. He prescribed pain pills (though he didn’t know what was wrong) and provided an estimate for blood work totally over $325 if we can back when the Dr was in. Again I asked the Dr the estimated total cost to see what was wrong with our dog and was told $42.50. Today was a waste of a trip!!! Read Less

We have had several animals seen there but we had an emergency situation with our bull dog and we would have lost her if it were not for the care that Governor's Choice provides! My little cat Sabrina was very sick, so I took her to Governor's Choice. I was sick with worry, but the staff and especially Dr. Harman were very kind. One of my other cats, Puff, came down with a mysterious sickness and I was losing my mind with worry, but again, the staff were extremely patient and compassionate. I've read alot of negative reviews, and have to say - I LOVE Governor's Choice. I will not hesitate to bring my babies to Dr. Harman! I adopted a dog from HAS earlier this week and he was sent here to be fixed before I could bring him home. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with friendly faces and genuine concern for my dog. I even called earlier that day after his surgery to check on him and had the most pleasant women answer the phone and let me know about my new baby. The next day I called to pick up a prescription for him and was on the phone a total of 2 minutes and they already pulled and had my prescription ready to be picked up. Two prescriptions that cost me all of 47 dollars, where I was quoted at my vet for over 100. I don't live in town and use another vet but after the excellent treatment and amazing prices, we will be moving vets and making the trip for all of our animals from now on. Read Less

*****EDITED 05.22.17**** Turns out the reception staff is really nice. Because HAS uses them for spaying, we continue to see the staff on an almost weekly basis during kitten season. They are really a joy to work with in helping to fight the pet population. The only drawback is their scale in the last examine room; it is ALWAYS off. We keep track of our foster kittens weight on a weekly basis and if they are sick, they get weighed daily. Every time we take the kittens in to be spayed, they always weigh less than our scale at home. Usually, I would chalk it up to different scales, yada yada, however while I was waiting on the vet tech to come check one of my fosters in, I weighed the kitten. The weight I got was 1 lb and 7 oz; when the vet tech weighed the kitten, she got 1 lb & 4 oz. Overall, this is a good animal hospital. We take our Huntsville Animal Shelter foster animals there for spaying and neutering. The reception ladies could be a little more pleasant but I might have just caught them on bad days. The vet techs are delightful and friendly. Because we drop off and pick up, we have not met any of the vets but it is my understanding that they keep in touch with HAS. I have not had any experience with their medical practices or prices, so this review is based solely on my personal interaction with some of the employees. If I didn't already have a vet and a back-up vet for my animals, I would consider using Governor's Choice. Read Less

I have to give 5 stars because these staff members were the only ones willing to put up with my 80 pound German Shepherd acting like a feral animal in there. I'm currently in the process of training her to be more confident and social and the staff was very understanding of that and listened to me when I said she will calm down within 2 minutes if they just stay in the room and give Jacqui a moment to sniff them. They were very professional and honest with me and did not push treatments to make more money off me. I was previously turned down at the Spay and Neuter Clinic due to Jacqui not being trained and intimidating the front desk there. However Governor's Choice allowed me a walk-in spay. They did not "man-handle" the dog even though she was wearing a muzzle, they still were patient and allowed her to become trusting of the staff as I handed off the leash so they could take her to be treated. No hestation with Jacqui as she willingly went with someone she had been barking up a storm at no less than 15 minutes prior. Very happy with this place and I will gladly return. Read Less

The best care my cats ever had... personal, intense and professional. My Spook had liver failure and tho he didn't recover Dr. Harman and staff gave him round the clock care, some free care, and never gave up on him. Dr. H gives acupuncture that is amazing and made my fussy female cats stop fighting! The cats don't mind going to the office!Read Less

This was the worst vet experience i ever had. When i brought my sick cat in, the vet tech quoted me a high bill i frankly could not afford. She acted offended when i asked if they could take care of my cat for less money. After a very long delay she came back with several of the items crossed off the estimate, one item crossed off was sub q fluids. I said maybe the fluid needed to be given and she pinched my cat and said no, he was okay without the fluids (then why was it included in the first place, bill padding?)The tech said they would give my cat a shot and some pills, then told me to hold him so she could give his shot. Before i could even get a good hold on him, she jammed the needle in awkwardly on his upper leg, hurting him, and then left the room. I never saw the vet at all.My poor cat laid on the floor at home for hours, twitching and crying out in pain! It was horrible for him, and from that day on he lost control of his bladder whenever he had to go to a vet. He was so traumatized that i was forced to use an expensive mobile vet service the rest of his life (Doorstep DVM, worth every penny!) He still lost his bladder every time, and that had never happened before i took him to Governors Choice!To add insult to injury, they billed me for two bottles of medicine, which i did not discover until i got home. When i returned to ask for a refund, the receptionist told me she was only allowed to issue a credit! I assured her that was not acceptable because i was NEVER bringing one of my pets there again, and she tried to refuse to give a refund! I had to insist on seeing the manager, she left for a long time, finally came back and very snottily gave me my cash refund, telling me that this was against policy but they had decided to allow a one-time exception! (Lucky me!)They ruined my good cat's amazing disposition about going to the vet; i considered the treatment he received abusive and then they treated me like that. And i never even saw the vet - or the manager... Just....no. Doorstop DVM is an awesome vet, and she comes to you. Highly recommended! On 12/2/16 I took my baby Precious to get her shots. They took us back to the room, it was only a few minutes the "person" came to give her shots. He was very unprofessional, he grabbed a few bottles and a needle out of the small refrigerator but another needle fell to the floor. I had to tell him that it was on the floor because he didn't seem to want to be there anyway. I was holding my baby when his rude Ass starting giving her the shots in her backside. I thought they were to give them in the neck area. Then he was grabbing her mouth and squirt something in her mouth. After a hour or two she started swelling from the shot, so I called the office to see how much of benadryl should I give her and they said that I could bring her in and they would check her out. But they said it was going to be a $39 charge! I told her that I was just there and gave you $68 , why would I pay another office fee. So, long story short I WOULD NEVER TAKE MY BABY THERE AGAIN!!! I've been taking my dog here since I got her from the humane society (4yrs). My family has been taking their dogs here for 20 years. They have treated all of our pets with the best care. Even when I was being difficult the staff was always patient and took the time to explain in detail issues of concern. I drive from Florida when I have to in order to see this clinic rather than my other vets in Destin because I feel like they do not try to "upsale" unwarranted products and they are friendlier. Dr Harman doesn't mess around. If your animal is very sick or dying this is the place to go.  She doesn't work miracles,  but it's pretty close to that.  Dr. Harman saves lives almost everyday.  She may have a gruff demeanor at times, but I would choose competent and frank over nice and incompetent when the chips are down.  I had two dogs treated for terrible problems here and they were well cared for. We took a dog that found its way to our home with a hurt leg, after contacting Governor's Choice who promised prompt and caring attention, treated us like 2 year olds. I have had some 17 dogs in our possession, most whom lived to a natural 12 to 18 years, and trained in fire rescue and detection. We were accused of not only not being able to handle our dog but were told that we needed to implement a choking device, which I have never used, to make the animal subservient. The dog NEVER was aggressive or out of control during our visit. As I and my wife were appalled at the fact that the  "person" who seemed pissed at our presence, related that it was her going home time and treated us extremely unprofessionally. We had to, in all good conscious, leave this sanctimonious assembly line. When we arrived at home there were 3 calls on the machine accusing us of taking their choke leash, which we had replaced with our own more humane one. We left their exam room leaving the choking device they provided. These people are in my opinion the lowest form of pompous arrogance I have ever witnessed. Stay well away. I called another more reputable vet, who stated my complaint was not the first they had heard of from this SPCA reject. I will give this caring veterinarian  my business. **PLEASE READ** 6-15-2015. I just literally had the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER at this deplorable excuse for an animal hospital! My mother and I took our cat there for an issue, which only worsened with each visit. We took our cat there today because he was lethargic and had diarrhea. The prognosis, which requires surgery, turned out to be correct, but the delivery and the handling of my poor 1 year old cat was  ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!! The larger female vet (Dr Harmon) manhandled our cat, very roughly and talked back to my mother as if she were an imbecile. We were simply trying to understand how he had gotten so ill over night, and why we had to have this surgery RIGHT NOW. She made comments like "don't u understand, and look it up on Google". She then jammed a needle into his side in a most unorthodox way to get her sample so she could prove to us she was correct. Confused and close to tears, we attempted to leave the office in search of a kinder vet. We were then verbally attacked at the front desk by the same big lady doctor being VERY RUDE and making comments like "I hope your cat makes it" and "we have the best prices around". I would sooner pay TRIPLE the price, than EVER step foot in Governors Choice again! If u like your pets, you will choose any other place!!
