I am unfortunately changing my 5 star review to a 2. When I first started coming here a couple years ago, they were great. But things are going down hill in my opinion. I'm a bit frustrated that the last couple times we've visited, we've had issues that have been unable to be addressed due to being rushed. For example, today our pug went in for his shots and boosters, and I had requested he also be groomed. Because of this, I let him go as a stinky boy, and I'm pretty sure he was ready for a bath. They clipped his nails and popped his anal gland, but he was not fully groomed and washed as I had requested. I will be giving him a bath with the medicated shampoo they sent us home with today instead. Also, our pug has been having a lot of issues with anxiety, and this was not addressed whatsoever. It's kinda BS that we paid over $200 for today's visit and couldn't even get all issues resolved as they should have been. This will be the final vet visit with this office sadly. The staff up front are super sweet and really love our pug, so I'm bummed that we won't be able to enjoy our little communications with them, but we need our dog to be able to feel like a normal puggo and not a ball of chewing, licking, itching mess. I also just realized upon writing this that they failed to give him his flea preventative as well. Read Less

I've been taking the pup there since I got him 3 years ago. Jeremiah is awesome, and takes wonderful care of any animal he comes across (even to the point of making multiple home calls for us). Both veterinarians are veterans, and Jeremiah (Dr. Alexander) is currently deployed. Awesome guys and vets who go above and beyond for all animals. Read Less

My dog had gotten into a dog fight and was bleeding to death had gashes in her leg and they wouldn’t even see her due to the snow. They wouldn’t even let us in the door. Claimed no doctor was available. I won’t be back here Ever again. I’ve read plenty of reviews on here where they won’t see animals that are hurt very badly. So if your dog has been hit by a car, bleeding to death from a dog fight I wouldn’t recommend anyone taking their dog or cat her because they won’t help. Read Less

Absolutely love this place. I always feel at peace leaving Rosco qith them. They love and care for him the way I do. I always have a great experience from the rime I walk in to when its time for me to pick him up. The staff and the docs here are absolutely amazing. Read Less

I would never recommend this place. I brought a little puppy that got hit by a car and they wouldn't see him. They told me they are to busy. If they really cared about animals they would have helped him in any way, but they told us they were to busy to see him. Heartless. Read Less

I want to thank the staff. I had to bring my wonderful baby girl in Friday 2/10/17 to be put down, it was a very bad day for me and my family. Y'all were very kind and loving to us with what we were going through. Then today I get home and received a sympathy card in the mail saying "No longer at your side but always in your heart" It was signed by all the staff members. I took my cat to be neutered. I was quoted a price. When I dropped him off I asked for a rabies shot and respiratory vaccine and was quoted the additional for those. When I picked my cat up . My bill was $40 more than I was told. When I asked , I was told that there was an examination fee for the Dr giving the vaccination(no mention of this b4) and I was told that my cat was covered in fleas and that they treated him for fleas. My cat wasn't covered in fleas and even if he was , shouldn't you call an make sure it's ok with me before you do something to my cat? Then they just handed him to me. Not a word about how his procedure went, how to care for it , etc. Worst experience EVER! I will never go back. Read Less

First and for most, I told them I didn't want to get some of the shots they were wanting to give him because I didn't have the money. They take my dog back there & included in the '$40' was for him to check my dogs lungs, heart, etc. He didn't. Didn't even check his heart. My dog has a small rash on his stomach & it required a rabies shot, & 2 other shots. They also gave him a spray. WITHOUT TELLING ME HOW MUCH EVERYTHING WAS LIKE I ASKED, totaled everything up, & it was $139. So not being like most vets & letting people pay half then & half later, made me pay the full amount after. Thanks for doing things I asked you not too. I think I'll stick with doctor springer. I called at 10 this morning with an emergency situation bc of the dog having something stuck in her throat. The phone lady informed me that they were booked on appointments for the day, but she'd give me an emergency number. That's a pretty pitiful excuse for a vet clinic knowing an animal is sick and not willing to help within business hours. I wouldn't take a pet ant to them. Read Less

I will never bring my dogs to your office again. Loxley was hit by a car and we were told you close at 5. Even though she was your patient, you wouldn't stay open to treat her. It was a scary moment, her breathing was shallow and she was in shock. Thankfully Dr. Kimbrell stayed open late to treat her and saved her life. Read Less

Awful. I took a dog here for a broke leg (after taking her to emergency clinic in Bham). The EC took x-rays but farmstead vet medicine want their own so I had to pay for identical X-rays twice. The Dr. Didn't cast the dogs leg but splinted it (didn't try to set it or anything). When I came back for follow up in 7 days they took another X-ray, and found that the splint had made it worse. Suggested I leave the splint off and let it heal because the bones had already started to fuse together (crooked). About 3 months after I paid my bill and left...they tried to bill me again for what I had already paid. Read Less

Because so many have text about Cricket... She is finally home now after 24 hours and two vets later. The guys at Farmstead Veterinary Medical Center were able to get her blood count back up into a normal range. She's still weak but will take meds for a few days to get her strength up. Surgery for internal issues will probably be in her near future. I am very very disappointed in Emergency Specialty Animal Medical Center in Birmingham on Acton Road. I went there only because it was after hours for my vet and that was the emergency facility listed. I walked out after 10 hours and several $100s later with no answers. It took Farmstead Veterinary Medical Center about 15 minutes this morning to examine her and determine the problem. Walker County needs an emergency vet clinic desperately. I would not recommend Emergency and Specialty Animal Medical Center at all. While the staff for the most part was very courteous, the level of treatment is not what it should. Thank you for all your prayers and concern. Hopefully with continued meds and a few days of rest she will be back to normal in no time.Read Less

I see Dr. Pelham for the most part, specifically because he has experience with exotics, and I have 2 chinchillas and 3 guinea pigs, as well as a pug. One chinchilla was very sick, and Dr. Pelham did a fantastic job diagnosing and treating. The staff are all, not only very professional, but personable and friendly as well.
