I am very disappointed with this practice. We recently rescued two kittens and brought them in for an exam. The initial visit went well. I explained that I was only interested in the rabies vaccine at the moment and was also planning to purchase and use the discount vouchers at this clinic. She told me how to go about using them and said we need to wait until the kittens were 6 months old. Sounded great to me. Unfortunately, after purchasing my vouchers and having them sent to this clinic I was I was told that they would not spay them unless I purchased all their recommended vaccines. I explained what the doctor had told me and after quite a hassle they finally agreed to go ahead and spay them. I was given a date for the surgery and told the pain medicine was included. When I arrived at the clinic I was handed a form with an array of additional purchases, one of which was pain medication. I thought maybe I misunderstood so I agreed. Then when I arrived to pick up the cats I was told that not only did I have to purchase $60 worth pain medication ( which my cats never even needed) but I would then need to pay an additional $38 per cat because they were both in heat!!! The lady at the desk eluded to the fact that they get so many vouchers and don’t make much off of them so I’m guessing that is what all these extra fees are about. I understand needing to make a profit but please do it more honestly. The whole experience felt confusing and dishonest. Read Less

Where to begin. If I could give no stars I would. Dr.Truett and Dr. Campbell killed our precious pug - Puggie Tu. We brought Puggie in to the office at the end of November for a UTI and she saw Dr.Campbell. He recommended that Puggie Tu be spayed because her breed was susceptible to uterus problems (she was 11 years old) and have the dog flu vaccination. We agreed to the flu vaccination and scheduled her to be spayed in 2 weeks. After leaving the office 10 mins later I noticed Puggies face swelling and her breathing was labored. We rushed her back to Central Baldwin Veterinary Hospital where Dr.Campbell gave Puggie a benadryl shot because she was having an allergic reaction to the flu vaccination and wanted to keep her for observations for a few hours. They called us a couple hours later and said she was doing better and we could come pick her up. 2 weeks later we took her in on a Friday morning for her spay, perfectly healthy. The lady at the front desk told me I could come pick her up Saturday morning. I received a call later Friday afternoon that Puggie came out of the surgery great and was doing well. Went to pick her up Saturday morning to find out that Dr.Truett had given her the flu booster vaccination without notifying us and wanted to keep her for a few hours to monitor her and asked if I could come back at 11am. I was wondering at that time why the Dr. would give our 11 year old pug that was recovering from surgery a vaccination shot that she was allergic to but thought, "she is the Dr." and was given no indication of exactly how bad our Puggie Tu's condition was at that time.Went back up there at 11am and was met in the treatment room by Dr. Truett, stating that Puggie Tu had another bad reaction to the flu booster vaccination, I was able to see her for a few mins, she was hooked up to the monitors and oxygen. Dr.Truett said they closed at noon and she was going to take Puggie home with her to monitor her as they do not stay at the office to monitor the animals. She said that she had given Puggie a benadryl shot before giving her the booster, but Puggie started turning purple and having trouble breathing. She gave her a mild sedative to calm her down as well. She assured me Puggie was going to be okay. I received a call from Dr.Truett around 3pm that Puggie had passed away. We filed a complaint against Dr.Campbell and Dr. Truett with the board of veterinary medicine with the state of Alabama for the death of our Puggie Tu and they were found both Dr.'s at fault for Puggie Tu's death. Our hearts will forever remember our Puggie Tu so with all this said---PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE ENTRUSTING EITHER OF THESE DOCTORS WITH YOUR FURRY FAMILY LOVED ONE - THEY HAVE NOT TRIED TO CONTACT US WITH ANY ADMITTANCE OF GUILT, SORROW, OR CARING OF ANY REAL CONCERN WITH WHAT THEY TOOK FROM US!! No Stars! Had to choose 1 star to be able to post. Awful environment. The front desk staff, rude, snappy, ill-tempered, discourteous, in need of customer service training. And this is just what I witnessed while filling out my application to bring my new dog there. As I watched the front desk staff interact with other clients, I got a bad feeling. The way they treated clients and talked to them was atrocious. When I gave my application to the lady at the front desk, a customer had stepped back inside to ask a quick question after having left his dog, the lady snapped his head off and was rude. After that, I was convinced I didn't want to leave my dog there. I told the lady, please just give me my application back. I left and went to Silverhill Animal Clinic. A world apart!! Greeted me AND my dog with "Good Morning", from Whitley. Whitley then took my dog from my arms and hugged on him so sweetly, and held him while taking my information on computer. The staff, wonderful people. Dr. Flowers, amazing and knowledgeable. Central Baldwin Vet, in dire need of a staff overhaul. The vets are good, but the staff, absolutely horrible. I personally don't want hateful people handling my pets. Read Less

So we were at the central Baldwin vet on the 9th and I told them kira had been acting weird and sad. That she's not as Energetic as she was and she's been limping but I checked her leg and it was fine. I didn't know if it was bc of the heartworm treatment , the baby that ill be having in very few weeks , or maybe bc age is catching up with her. I told them this during the exam!and they said nothing about it!! And as of today her symptoms have gotten way worse and far more noticeable ....... my fur baby isn't old or sad bc of the arriving baby. Shes very sick!! I'm almost 100% sure she has a very very bad case of lymes disease I am so over this vet not doing their job corectly!! I wanna go there and punch them all for not listing or not even checking ! If I'm right and this is what she has then it could kill her. So I'ma bring her to a new vet tomorrow and I hope that she's not to far gone. She can't even eat without crying. She was lying still as can be and started screaming like someone hurt her bc her joints hurt so bad. And now when she walks she looks super stiff I'm so sad for my kira and I don't have a lot for another vet trip I hope they can fix her up good with what I have:(Read Less

Tigerlil - About 1 1/2 years ago I brought Tigerlil to Central Baldwin, literally on deaths door. She weighed 7 lbs and was jaundiced. Dr McKnight and the other vets tried several therapies, antibiotics, special food, force feeding, where we got more food outside than inside, nothing was making her better. Dr. McKnight suggested a feeding tube as a last resort, we agreed. Treatment became so much easier. Feeding time was a breeze. Care had to be taken to keep feeding tube cleaned out before and after feeding. This consisted of a small syringe if water injected through the tube. The food had to be soft enough to easily go through the tube, and only a small amount injected at a time. It probably took about 10 to 15 minutes to complete the feeding but it was painless for both of us and the best thing is she thrived, she started gaining weight and perking up. As you can see from the picture below, she is still going strong. Knowing what I know now, I would use the feeding tube before trying force feeding any day. They are very thorough and dedicated to the care of the patients in their care. I have 5 dogs and 2 cats, they take care of all of them. I am so thankful I found this hospitalRead Less

We recently used CBVH to care for and treat our puppy for Parvo. Dr. McKnight explained the costs we would be facing and the options we had as far as payment arrangements. I made the initial down payment according to their policy and left feeling gracious that they were willing to work with customers, as this sickness can become very costly to treat.
