Wife took our foster dog to this establishment, came home extremely upset. This facility is in dire need of a revamped customer service strategy. The staff made an honest mistake, no big deal. Handling this by lashing out and blaming the customer is not a good strategy. I hope my wife was not discriminated against for not being from the area... To sum it up, we will not take any of our dogs here, and neither will anyone that I know. Read Less

What a horrific experience I just had at this place. The staff is just depressing. The receptionists do not smile at your nor make eye contact as you enter the establishment. The technician who "helped" me was just plain rude. There was some miscommuication regarding a health certificate I needed for a foster dog I was sending up north and when it had been filled out incorrectly she huffed and puffed and talked down to me to make sure I knew it was MY fault. Great customer service skills with that one, they should probably just keep her in the back away from paying clients. The doctor was incredibly condescending, talked down to me like I was stupid. Neither one of these individuals wanted to listen to what I had to say, they just needed to be correct. Just a horrible experiece from start to finish. I don't even know how these people are still in business. Read Less

Run!!! Do NOT use Dr. Steve Griffen, especially do not use his partner, and stay away from the rude staff!! Money is ALL they care about! I brought my dog here after he had been run over. I made a $200 deposit and explained that the rest would be paid when my husband was able to call me with the credit card number. The estimate for care was WAY over the top! I left my dog there and went home to make phone calls. I found much less expensive estimates at EVERY other vet i called! I went to pick up my dog to take him elsewhere. They refused to give him to me until i paid them over $1000. (The ONLY thing they had done at this point was pain medication). 7 hours of care, he was kennelled!! They called the sheriff when i became angry and upset and would not let me see or have my dog. When my husband called with the number i had to leave my dog with them . It was too late to take him elsewhere, and the amount they had already charged me made it negligible. EXCEPT: I get a phone call the next morning from Griffen telling me to pick up my dog. He wouldn’t do surgery on him “because he didn’t feel he could make me happy”! My dog had been with them for over 24 hours. When I picked him up, his wound was not cleansed, or packed! It was left gaping open for infection! I was charged over $1000. For nothing!!! THEY COMPLETELY MISSED THE FACT THAT MY DOG ALSO HAD A BROKEN PELVIS. Go anywhere else!!! Read Less

Drs. Namie and Griffin are truly the best veterinarians in the area, and I can say that truthfully, as I visited nearly every single one of them prior to finally settling at Smiths Station Animal Hospital as my clinic-of-choice nearly five years ago. I originally stumbled upon Dr. Griffin and SSAH when I was searching for a place to have my dog, Lou, who I had recently adopted from Columbus Animal Care and Control, treated for heart worms. At the time, I didn't have the funds available to pay for the fast-kill treatment, but every other clinic I had visited informed me that I had no other options, and that my dog would die very quickly if I refused to have the treatment performed. I met with Dr. Griffin that first day at SSAH, and he was the only veterinarian I had seen (out of at least a half dozen) who understood my predicament and explained that we could start Lou on the slow-kill treatment option until I had saved up the funds to do the fast-kill, as the slow-kill may not work long-term but would certainly extend and improve Lou's quality of life until I could afford the more expensive treatment, since it would prevent the heart worms from continuing to multiply and may even kill off some of the mature worms. SSAH was also the hospital I rushed my dog, Charlie, to the first time he had a seizure. My husband met with Dr. Namie that day, who ran a battery of tests that were all reasonably-priced, and who went over every detail of what she was doing, what it would cost, and what the short-term and long-term implications might be for our Charlie. It was that visit that solidified SSAH as our home clinic, if you will. Since then, we have taken no fewer than eight dogs and two goats to see Drs. Namie and Griffin, and each time we go we are treated like family. It is glaringly apparent that these doctors have a heart for animals that exceeds what one would think is possible for a normal human being. Dr. Namie has devoted hundreds of hours of her own personal time to care for animals at the clinic after-hours, including my own pets on multiple occasions. Every time we step into the clinic, our pets are greeted by name by nearly every member of their staff. Our pets are excited to visit their friends at SSAH, where they have been apprehensive of visits to other veterinary clinics in the past. Drs. Namie and Griffin and the staff at SSAH have always been available to answer my questions, even if I am unable to bring my pets in at the time. It is incredibly comforting to know that a professional, educated, experienced, and compassionate staff of veterinary medicine professionals are always just a phone call away in the event of an emergency. I recommend Drs. Namie and Griffin and the staff at SSAH to anyone and everyone who may be searching for a veterinary family to which they can trust their pets' care. Our pets are our family, and they are SSAH's family, as well; after five years of excellent medical, preventative, and emergency care administered by the doctors and staff at SSAH, that much is obvious. Do not hesitate to take your pets here. You will not be disappointed. Read Less

Relatively good staff and doctors but the cost of their services are absolutely outrageous. Went in for kitten booster and rabbies shot, was upsold a neuter and was told since I chose to have that done 3 additional tests each at $40 had to be done. The final bill was $198.76 when over the phone they quoted me at $80. Just checked around for another kitten I have and Affordable Veterinary in Columbus Ga has 5 stars, their prices I easily seen on their website and with a Neuter, boosters and rabbies with office visit it'll only be $68. I don't know why Smiths Animal hospital has these prices but they are clearly over priced and for that much more over pricing something seems fishing. Maybe they just prey on the fact they're the only one in town. I'll be going to Columbus from now on! Read Less

I live in Birmingham but my mother is now in assisted living close to this vet. During my last trip down I left him at Smiths for a bath and nail trim. When I picked him up , we drove straight back to Bham. I noticed when I picked him up he was like a wild animal trying to get out of there. He has been to several other vets and I have never seen him act this way. When we got home ,I noticed blood on my seat. This was caused by having his one nail cut below the quick. It has been several days now and still gives him trouble. His regular vet said all can be done is allow time for it to grow out. I WILL NEVER TAKE HIM BACK TO SMITHS STATION AGAIN ! THEIR PRICES WERE HIGH AND ALL I GOT FOR MY MONEY IS A INJURED PET. Read Less
