Love this place! Not fancy and pretentious, but great Vets who care. They're always courteous and treat my scary 80lb pup like the big baby she is. Great with my kitties too! So I found a stray puppy last weekend and after doing some research/calling some friends that had found stray animals in the past, I took the puppy to this clinic. I walked in with the dog and told them that I had been referred to them by friends that had taken other stray animals here. The women behind the desk were very quick to tell me that they couldn't do anything until I went through animal control, which I understand, so I asked for the number to animal control and if they were opened on Sunday. They said that yes, animal control was open on Sunday and gave me a phone number. I went out into the parking lot to call so I could get the dog settled somewhere ASAP (I couldn't keep the dog at my apartment...I have two cats) and the number they gave me was for the city of Vestavia and there was no animal control option that I could select from the automated prompt.After finding the number myself, I called and of course, animal control is closed on Sundays. Luckily, I have great parents who are holding on to the dog until we find his owner, but I was extremely unimpressed with the attitude of the staff at VAC. They really acted like I was an annoyance. They didn't even offer to scan for a chip. We took the puppy to our regular vet on Monday and they scanned for a chip AND offered to put the dog's picture on their Facebook page. Yesterday we had to make the unfortunate decision to have our sweet Kitty Cat put to sleep. After a few unsuccessful attempts through the day to reach Kitty's regular vet for advice we felt it would be better to end his suffering rather than wait another day. As it was after hours for our regular vet we were hoping to find a vet other than one of the emergency clinics. We were please to see that Vestavia Animal Clinic is open until 8 PM Monday through Thursday. We called at about a quarter to 7 PM and they told us to come on. Dr. Rains and her staff were very accommodating, caring and compassionate. Once Dr. Rains saw Kitty she agreed that we were making the right decision. We haven't been through this before so she explained the process and what Kitty would experience. Despite the late hour they allowed us as much time with Kitty as we wanted and at no point did we feel rushed. While there is no way to make the experience of losing a pet easier we greatly appreciate the compassion that Dr. Rains and VAC showed us. We will now be using them for all of our pet care needs. The vets here are wonderful, and have been with us through thick and thin. Dr. Murphy is amazing, and performed knee surgery on my dog's torn ligaments. Recovery went exactly as expected, and they took great care of her. Love everything about this place. Very trustworthy.Read Less

We brought our frenchies to Vestavia Animal Clinic for a 9 day kennel stay and came home to two very sickly dogs. The staff, without alerting us in any way, put both dogs on Metronidazole from Day 2-6. When we went to pick up them up, the staff asked if we wanted an itemized receipt and we indicated yes. This is the point when I noticed my dogs had been on meds and we were charged extra for the medicine and its administration. The money isn't the issue here; the issue is that the staff decided to put our dogs on an antibiotic without talking to us and without doing an exam first! When I asked the individual at the front desk about the medicine and why it was given he simply said because dogs have stress. HUH?? Last time I checked, antibiotics are not a treatment for stress. Our dogs are a major part of our family and we care for them deeply, if you care for your pets you would be wise to not leave them in the care of the Vestavia Animal Clinic staff. UPDATE: The vet staff has reached out to us to offer their apologies for this failure in communication. They assured us that our dogs were given an exam prior to antibiotic administration and that due to the busy period around the holidays communication can be poor. Read Less

Less then pleased with the way they operate. We've been taking our dogs here for seven years now... And with some recent staff turnovers they've gotten less than pleasant to deal with. The final straw was boarding our dogs for $40 and then being told we'd need to pay an extra $120 for a test if we wanted them to be able to stay. Of course, we weren't informed of this when we dropped them off... But rather 30 minutes before they closed when there was no chance we could come pick them up before close. The front desk was less than apologetic.... even when I again explained my displeasure and the inconvenience it caused us. Off to find another vet that doesn't treat the dogs like an auto mechanic's shop.... Read Less

I was originally going to another clinic but when my dog was bit by a copperhead, Vestavia Animal Clinic was the closest one. After taking him there, I was impressed with the love and compassion they showed and the fact that they routinely called me to check on my dog meant a lot and showed that they cared. So I switched up vets and I can't imagine going anywhere else for my dogs. I HIGHLY recommend!! Read Less

As a first time (maybe paranoid) dog mom, I made an appointment for my recently-adopted rescue because his tummy seemed out of whack.  I called yesterday at 2:30 PM and they were more than willing to squeeze me in within hours of my call.  Dr. Murphy was amazing.  He answered my many questions and was so patient with me and my pup.  The staff are so sweet and knowledgable.  You can tell they are genuine about the work they do, and even better...they are incredibly service minded. Dr. Edwards is FANTASTIC! Actually, the whole staff is wonderful as well. The office stays open late, and it's always nice to have a vet office where multiple vets can see your pet in-case your regular vet is out of town. When my cockapoo had an ear infection, I was able to see Dr. Edwards the day I called. She has a wonderful bedside manner and put me at ease. She walked me through the medication schedule and asked to see him back in 2 weeks to confirm he was okay.I have found a great vet in a convenient location! Read Less

Dr. Murphy is the best! I'm usually a skeptic and feel that Vets are overpriced, but I love this place and my dogs do as well. I don't feel cheated, the staff is amazing, and the doctors have personality and are super knowledgeable. It's refreshing to see people loving there work like they would pay to be there instead of being paid. If you love your pet, then you want to take them here. Side Note: It's worth the drive by to read their outdoor signage of wisdom. Read Less
