Poor 1st Impression: Sat morning appt, walked in, sat down, 1 other person with pet in the lobby, young woman at reception fails to receive: glances over, says nothing... for 10 minutes completely ignored me, has a brief conversation with other client , types some stuff, doesn't appear busy enough to simply say, "be with you in a minute"... for 10 mintutes... Another young woman comes to the counter and quickly asks if I've been helped... (what's up with the employee that's been there ignoring incoming patients for 10 minutes?) Dr Hanlon, when I got to see her 25 minutes after appt time, was kind, professional, and seemed competent. She recommended xray for a bloated belly that my 15 yo husky has developed. Ok, her conclusion was to have a radiologist review on Mon. (2 days out from appt date), and they'd call me to update and provide complete analysis. No call as promised, by 4 days out, I call and leave a message with Dr Hanlon asking for info as promised. 6 days out, call again and tell VCA ER they are fired. Turns out they forgot to send xrays to the radiologist! They did after I had to call twice, but this is ridiculous... Training of younger staff is apparently poor, and fact that they forgot to send in the xrays for analysis is further indication that seemingly good vets have incompetent staff support and poor management procedures. We're only as good as our team, and this team has proven to be short on abilities and attitude for this customer out $350 for a negative experience. Won't be going back, and can not recommend. I will NEVER EVER refer anyone here! Very untrustworthy and disreputable business practices... A client of theirs rehomed a puppy to me and I made arrangements to transfer records and update vaccinations. When I set the appointment I was not given the full cost amount when I specifically asked before coming in what the charges would be . So you can imagine my surprise when I was handed a bill for over 50% more from the price I was originally given. After the service had already been rendered. I disputed the issue and was flat refused reimbursement by their manager due to "standard fees" that were applied without my knowledge or consent. HA! If this is "standard procedure" don't you think that discloser of that "little detail" should be standard procedure as well? Especially to anyone choosing to use their services? I was brand new to this facility and I was told by their medical director that I should have assumed this fee would be added. Mmmm, even after I called ahead of time and confirmed? Then to add insult to injury she said she felt sorry for the vet who assisted me because I was upset and angry at the situation they had created. I came to VCA with an expectation that they set for me and they are refusing to acknowledge their severe miscommunication and honor the service price that was provided to me by their staff. I expect nothing less from a professional service provider than to make discrepancies such as these right, because it is the right thing to do. Instead they are choosing their bottom line and profit over their reputation and valuable first impressions. DO NOT EXPECT GREAT SERVICE FROM VCA. Read Less

The reason I lowered my review stars is because of the boarding facility here. I left my dogs here once and when I picked them up they were not themselves for at least 3 days.. I don't want to go making accusations but it honestly seemed like they were drugged when they were there. They told me when I scheduled the boarding that when I drop them off I can see where they will be staying and everything, however, when I brought them to drop off the young worker girl was stumbling on her words and said "oh I have a dog out sorry you can't go up there." It was very strange and suspicious. I also paid for them to clip the nails before I picked them up and Jax came out bleeding all over the floor. I just said "really?? you expect me to put him in the car like this so blood gets over everything?!" So they brought him back and had a tech stop the bleeding. It was very odd and unprofessional in my opinion. I definitely will never board them here again. Now on the Vet side... I love taking them to the Vet here! It's ridiculously pricy but so is everywhere in Alaska except for SPCA which is a good 45 min drive for us and always has a long wait. The Vet is very social and will sit on the ground with them so the dogs feel comfortable getting any shots and stuff. They priced me at $400 to get my new pup neutered along with $80 for pulling 2 puppy teeth that never fell out when the adult came in.. I brought him to SPCA which we've had great luck with in the past on neutering/spaying and they did the neutering for $80 and when I picked him up they said they pulled the teeth for free. I would suggest they make their prices a little more reasonable here if they want the service. Read Less

Restored my faith in Mankind!!!! : ) Amazing service and empathy for my situation! I live in a very remote area. Teresa, is the most caring and overly helpful person I have had the pleasure of being in contact with!! I read the other reviews and feel awful for them, but I received first class service!!!! I didn't feel taken advantage of and I certainly did not feel as though, my money was seriously being sought after! Amazing care and help!!! I unfortunately, called another Vet Clinic first and was given frighteningly, horrible advice!!! Over the phone I was told, "I'm not sure what that is, but you will have to send her in, RIGHT AWAY!!" I was brought to tears and felt like an awful Mother! One call to Teresa with VCA in Eagle River... "Text me a picture and I will show it to the Doctor." In this age of technology, of course that makes the most sense. They found out what the problem was minutes later. Literally, minutes! I ordered the medication on a Saturday and it arrived the following Monday!! : ) Money is not an issue when you would do anything for your dog, but spending thousands for no reason... Come on! My money was obviously, what the other Vet Clinic was interested in. People that absolutely love all of God's wonderful creatures, operate on a different level. Thank you and VCA will continue to be my number one choice! : ) Read Less

After refusing to help us on Christmas Eve, leaving our dog in our car hurt and bleeding, we told the Eagle River VCA that we would never bring any of our 4 animals back to VCA or recommend their services to anyone again. Today, on New Year's Eve, we received our pets's medical records in the mail along with a snide note stating, "After reviewing our situation, we feel that it is in everyone's best interest that you continue your pet's veterinary services elsewhere." I guess their uncaring attitude towards the animals they are supposed to care about and the snide note to let us know that they don't want our business is their way of saying, "Happy Holidays." We already found another vet that will actually care about our pets and who offers the care that we expect from a vet, so I guess I can say thanks to the Eagle River VCA for our pets' records so that we never have to step foot in their establishment again. If you care about your pets, I suggest you find a vet office better than VCA who only cares about your money! I have never been treated so rudely or unprofessionally on a regular basis than I have by VCA. Read Less
