This was our first visit to 1st Pet Veterinary Centers and we cannot thank the caring and knowledgeable staff and veterinarians enough. We were immediately taken to an exam room. The doctor was great and very caring. She took time to do a thorough examination and explained everything that was going on. This has been my new vet for a few years now and we love them. They always take care of our fluffy ones with their normal doctor visits. When there is an emergency they've always done a great job with keeping us informed of exactly what's happening. One of our dogs had to stay over night and I called in almost every hour and every time they were happy to give me updates on my girl. Read Less

The check in for a new patient is great. We were immediately taken to an exam room where the information was entered into the computer. This made the check in a smooth seamless process. The staff is very kind and caring. They do everything to be helpful even supplying snacks and water. Dr. Goldman is great, very caring. She took time to do a through examination of my cat taking care to check her completely with as little discomfort as possible. Everyone here is fantastic. This was our first visit to a 1st Pet Veterinary Centers and we cannot thank the caring and knowledgeable staff and veterinarians at 1st Pet enough for saving our pet life and her puppy's life too. The veterinarians at 1st Pet knew exactly what needed to be done, they quickly advised us of the procedures needed to save our pets life and provided an estimate. We were a bit apprehensive but the staff and veterinarians made us feel at home and like part of the 1st Pet family. I just called them for general advice about a tick I found on my dog, and the girl that answered my call was so caring and sweet and provided me a solution right away, even at almost 1 in the morning! Everyone at this place was so caring and friendly. I found out my only option was to let my poor sweet cat go. They were all very kind and supportive while I was there. Very disappointed in this place. We had read good reviews and rushed there when our cat was sick. The first vet took his blood work and said he was in kidney failure and needed to stay there for 3 days and $3600. I told her he coincidentally has his vet appt at 8am (we knew he wasn't well, but got scared, hence the ER appt). She told us the least we could do was 24 hours for $1200 for fluids. When I asked her if we could do subcutaneous fluids at home afterwards, she was very rude because we did not stay the full 3 days. The receptionist was nice but she seemed like she was afraid of the doctor. When we went back to pick him up, they charged us another $700. When we questioned it, they said there was a shift change so we had to pay more. They NEVER told us that before. I was also then informed that I could have kept him for only 12 hours, which would have been perfect, since he had an appt at his vet early morning. We feel that they owe us $405 for the second vet charge that we were not told about. When we picked him up, the vet tech said he would need fluids for the rest of his life. She told us how to do it and that "youtube is your best friend". For $1900 the least they could have done is SHOWED us how to inject him. To top it all off, the paperwork said one amount of fluids needed on one page, but another page said another amount. When I called to confirm which amount he needs, they took 24 hours to respond.  Be aware that the fluids they gave me to take home cost over $100. It can be bought at Walgreens for WAY less. Plus the potassium was 5x higher than my vet. I get that they have to operate 24 hours but the deceptive way they go about charging us, is what makes us mad. I later learned about financing they offered. Not once did they tell us that then. So we put it all on our card that now has interest. They were very unprofessional (except the receptionist). I brought my 15 week old kitten in due to a traumatic accident. I was not only rushed through treatment options, but I feel the injuries we're not only amplified but exaggerated as well. I was told my kitten had a shattered palete and was told she needed extensive work, feeding tube and oral surgery consult.  She went on to say: without Imaging she would not know the extent of the injuries. My question then was how do you know the palate is shattered if you havent don't any Diagnostic Imaging? And I was very confused of how there was injury to the palate, the doctor never explained or spoke with anything about this just basically said she could have sinus injuries, possible brain damage and I was given three options.  One was extensive including: feeding tube, CT Scan, Imaging, oral surgery, ETC, number two option was be sent home on pain medication and hope for the best and the third option was euthanasia. At this point I was shocked by the injuries the doctor mentioned and was in shock of what exactly we should do to treat our family pet. The doctor seemed very irritated I did not jump at the most expensive and extensive treatment plan. She made a statement along the lines of :"I feel you're not on board with all of this". Not only was my interaction with a doctor an insensitive experience but I feel she was playing on my emotions as she could see and my two small children were upset at this tragic accident, I did not feel there was trust or and sort of empathy. After she was obviously irritated with my response and questions as far as why such excessive treatment plan was necessary. She left and never came back into the room, I never saw the doctor again during our office visit again. The young dark-haired girk, either tech or nurse, was the only person that took time to answer questions and speak with me and showed compassion (and this is after I came out of the room and asked for some help and said I had questions since we had already sat in the room for an extended period of time after them bringing in 3 cost treatment plans). I wish I had the girl's name because she was wonderful. After we discussed a plan and she not only made me feel comfortable about that plan but she answered questions about it, she is the only reason I didn't take my kitten and go to another emergency vet clinic. The young girl allowed me to go and visit our kitten and showed me the injury to the palate. It was a puncture wound with a laceration to the lateral aspect of the point of injury. The palate seemed to be symmetrical and I really don't understand how she could use the word "shattered" as part of her assessment. I'm not a veterinarian but it seemed a little excessive to use that kind of verbage. She then brought me up front to be checked out. This is where the receptionist ask what she was doing,  when the young girl explain she brought us up to be checked out,  the receptionist threw her hands in the air and with a very inappropriate tone said "it's going to be a minute!", "I'll come in there when I can" and did a jerky gesture motion with her head to the room. This is where I asked her if she wanted us to go back in the room. She said yeah, this interaction was extremely rude and unsettling after I just brought my kitten in for an emergency and had already had an unpleasant experience. Once more said with her hands in the air waving them around, I told you it's going to be a minute I have another person I'm checking out. I understand there are people in the office as well I did not see anyone else out in the waiting area. I calmly said you don't have to be rude and went into the room to weight with my two small children. My kids were getting stir crazy as we were there for a quite amount of time. Another gal came in and kindly helped us. I expressed my concerns with the office and how poorly I think we have been treated since we have been there. She politely apologized and was very sweet. Based on an emergency status, I had our family pet who is a small kitten who is involved in a accident. I had blood all over me and my kitten and my children were upset. I felt the environment was uncaring, unprofessional, and the staff was very insensitive. I also found it unsettling that as soon as I didn't jump at the opportunity to spend the most money in the most expensive treatment plan the vet never came back in to talk with me about anything or answer any questions like: why would we do a feeding tube right at the beginning? Could we just see how she does as far as eating on her own? These questions were never run by the veterinarian and because she never came back and checked on us.I work in the emergency care setting of healthcare, I found my interactions and overall experience to be extremely unprofessional, extremely rude and impersonal. If I had to go back I would never have gone to this facility. I don't typically write negative reviews but I was extremely shaken up by this horrible experience. Read Less

We had to take our pet in to be put to sleep since he was older and rapidly declining. This was one of the only 24 hour vets that was open at the time. The support staff including the receptionist and vet tech were very nice and accommodating; however, I am giving 3 starts to the vet. She came in with the 3 syringes to put my pet to sleep and was very cold and blunt about it. She seemed like she was in a rush and injected everything so fast she didn't even notice that she probably didn't have to do all 3 syringes since my pet stopped breathing and his heart stopped after just the first one. The only thing she said to us was "sorry" and left the room. I understand she was probably very busy as they were a 24 hour vet but I feel like in this situation, she could have showed a little more empathy.On a better note, we did decide to cremate our pet and we received it in a nice maple box with a lock. I have been going to 1st pet since before they changed their name, and at the old location, across the street. I had a cat for 17 yrs. Now I have 2 cats and a dog. Today was the hardest day of pet ownership: the day that you don't want to think about, but finally have to come to terms with: the day to say goodbye to the fur baby.This veterinary center is not our family vet, but on this Sunday morning when my boy had taken a turn for the worst and would have been suffering too much to make it to "normal business hours" we found ourselves here... and if there was any "good" way to say goodbye this would be it.We were met instantly with a staff that was calm, compassionate, empathetic, and quick acting. They immediately got us back to a room (accommodating our large grieving party) giving us time and space to say goodbye.We had asked to be present in the process (a choice they allowed us to make) and I was able to hold my boy until the very end: the vet even sat on the floor with me, instead of making us move to stand or sit in a chair or at a table (all the while cooing and loving my boy as if he were her own) which meant the world to me. We opted to take our boy to bury him, and they provided a burial box, adorned with rainbow flowers, and gifted us with memorial paw prints (we got 3). (This was vastly different from the other places we said goodbye to our furry friends in the past and much appreciated).The staff didn't know us or our dog, Teddy, but from the moment we walked in the door, I felt like it was dear friends and family taking care of us. Each staff member addressed us with respect and empathy. Never once did we feel rushed, or like a number on the books. The way the staff spoke and acted made it genuinely feel like they cared about Teddy and us: as though we were a part of their community and not just some outsiders coming in.Thank you so much for making this hard day a little bit easier... words cannot express how thankful we were for the ladies that helped us today and the love that they shared with us and Teddy in his last moments of life. My girlfriend and I took our little puppy in late last night for testing. He had not been feeling well for a couple of days and finally something major happened. The only thing that the vets were telling us is that we had given our dog marijuana. All night they were giving us shady looks and talking down to us as if we were bad owners. After the drug screen, EVERY drug came back negative. DONT SHAME A CUSTOMER IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. We spent 500$ to literally get lied to and shamed at and at the end all of it was false. They didnt listen to one word that we told them. Only thing that we got out of it is that he needs more tests. Read Less

I rushed my Westhighland terroir age 3 to the location in Mesa Arizona on 7/11/2017. He was bit by a rattlesnake out on our back porch in the evening. It took me 45 minutes from the bite to location to seek emergency help for Fred. The veterinarian was amazing.  Dr.  Amy Gassman was the vet that cared for Freddy. She put him on pain medication, drew blood samples, IV fluids and antivenin.  He was kept overnight and blood tested in the morning to decide further treatment or discharge.  Dr. Gassman was professional and she answered all my questions.  This place was caring and placed me in a private room waiting for my pets prognosis. They brought a basket full of snacks and drinks in to help me feel comfortable.  The price was fair too! The average price to treat a rattlesnake in the U.S. is 3,000-10,000 dollars.  We were charge 1300.00.   I'm so thankful to the staff and Dr Gassman for taking care of my dog.    He survived the rattlesnake bite and is healing at home now.  I love my dog and would take him there again in an emergency.  Thank you for saving my dogs life Read Less

I've unfortunately had to come here on multiple occasions for emergency situations and I will say that they do a pretty good job. Went in months ago because my dog swallowed pair of underwear, and they had it out of her by making her vomit in a matter of a few minutes. Literally was there for no more than 45 mins in and our and the vet even pieced the underwear together to make sure she threw all of it up.Now today, had to bring my dog in who is dying of lymphoma. They gave me some fluids and some other medication and it really did make her feel better. But regardless I am thankful for them 1- not thinking I was crazy for trying to just make my dog comfortable (palliative care), and 2- not trying to sell me on a bunch of weird stuff I didn't need. My boxer Cooper got bit by a scorpion and within 15 minutes went into anaphylactic shock. I was able to get him to 1st Pet and they immediately took action. They kept me posted on his condition every step of the way. If it wasn't for there quick reaction and knowledge on what was wrong he wouldn't be here today. We appreciate all that 1st pet did for our dog. Only one thing that would have given us complete peace of mind. I had called a couple of times to see how our dog was doing. After about 90 minutes some was able to tell me bubbles was doing fine. It may just be me. 1st pet is the place to go when dog needs medical attention. Very pleased with the care my dog had received. Given they are one of the few 24 hour vets your options are very limited and they know this. Extremely high prices and a vet who gave us three different possible diagnoses within a matter or minutes --- maybe he got stung by a scorpion, I think he broke his growth plate (after taking an X-ray) so the specialist will need to see him, the radiologist says no break but maybe its arthritis (he is a 10 week old puppy) .. thank you can we just get our puppy back and take him to our own vet .. well we really think you need to see a surgeon for the possible broken growth plate (after being told the radiologist said it is not broken ... $458 later I just want me records so I can take him to my own doctor but they won't send the X-rays because it is more convenient for them to have me pick up a disk and well technology doesn't always allow us to send files ???? Just be warned, I felt like maybe we got a new vet who didn't really know what she was doing and we wasted a great deal of money and run around time. I will not use them again Read Less

Took my kitty in due to injuries from a bad fight.  The facility was clean and in good shape.  they saw me right away, and were able to begin care fairly quickly.  The treated blanket in the exam room really calmed my cat down.  The desk staff, technician, and vet were all very friendly and helpful.  The basket of snacks while I waited was a great touch.  Treatment wasn't cheap.  They were responsive to a follow up call when she had some swelling after getting home, but they may have been to quick to recommend a return visit.  I'm glad I just gave it some time. Noticed something was terribly wrong with my dog on Wednesday night so I looked up the nearest 24 hr emergency vet which happened to be 1st Pet in Chandler. When I brought him in the tech was able to take him back straight away for x-rays, when bloat was confirmed they were able to get him straight into surgery, undoubtedly saving his life. I wanted to thank everyone at 1st pet for their quick action and kindness. I can't even begin to express my gratitude. The vets and techs at 1st pet were so helpful even after bringing my dog home with all of my questions. I would absolutely recommend 1st Pet in Chandler to anyone, especially during an emergency. Took him in to 1st Pet Vet Center in the morning and they checked him out and recommended no x-rays (even though they knew we would pay for them), I knew this was a place we could trust. I took my dog in for an emergency visit and the staff was attentive, friendly and empathetic. I was immediately given service and offered an assortment of drinks and snacks. I came in because of a puncture wound to my dogs paw just below the carpal pad. We had been out and about in the desert all day and I noticed blood on her leg on the way home. About 5 hours later it started swelling to twice the size of the leg normally, she was limping and the area was warm to touch. Took us fast to a room. Offered us snacks and drinks. The staff were welcoming when we arrived and very friendly but we didn't really get any of things we came for....Our Vizsla was in the room being sedated for over an hour with no update. I did go up and ask a staff member at the front desk how our dog was doing and if they knew what was wrong. She told me the doctor was all done, and our dog was fine and would be out any minute. 30 more minutes and we heard our dog whimpering - a vet tech strolled by and I asked if I could see the dog. She told me they were just getting started. I told her it was concerning that the staff had the animals mixed up already and the tech shrugged and walked away. I was upset and just overly worried about my dog, but I think that's understandable at an emergency vet.Another hour passed and the vet came back. She said she had to give the dog double sedation to calm her down and clip and clean the wound. The doctor said that there was no foreign body that appeared to be causing the swollen elbow area.  She recommended a broad spectrum antibiotic, amoxicillin, for the infection. I asked her how she knew it was an infection and she said that it was one because of the swelling. I asked her what types of bacteria the specific antibiotic would target and if it was even definitively an infection. At this point the doctor seemed put off and annoyed by the questions. After spending 3 hours, $100 for just walking through the door ($250 more for the procedure that told us nothing)  I would have liked to know my options.  My primary concern was that my dog had been bitten that day by an animal or stung by a scorpion or other critter. Instead the doctor made a 'best guess'. I asked for the wound to be swabbed so the bacteria could be cultured or identified in any way. It is unhealthy to give antibiotics without knowing that a bacterial infection is present and antibiotics are needed. This is well established. The doctor could be annoyed all she wants about me WebMD'ing it, not being a graduate of vet school, so on and so forth but the fact that she would not treat my dog in the animals best interest is irresponsible. Superbugs and MRSA are directly linked to irresponsible prescribing of antibiotics. Did this doc care? Nope. She just wanted to band aid our stress and push us out the door. When I have taken a dog to AAWL (a non profit rescue and medical clinic) for less that $30 and quickly they swabbed the site of suspected infection and looked under a microscope to determine the presence of bacteria prior to prescribing an antibiotic. I'm not sure why an emergency vet clinic that is licensed as a hospital can do a simple differential test to determine the presence of bacteria? And why I was blown off when I requested it? Maybe it was an ego thing but it was super rude and wrong. Today we went to drop off the prescriptions. The tramadol RX was missing a DEA number and then amoxicillin was for a dosage that can only be made at a compounding pharmacy. We were expecting issues with the scripts because the tech that brought them seemed annoyed that we wouldn't fill them there. But they charge $19 for amoxicillin..... and way more for everything else. So we requested paper scripts. The tech that helped us today Krista was the only helpful staff in the office but it was a little late to remedy the stress and cost of the visit yesterday. The money is not the issue. It's that we were charged a lot for nothing. Not even the medications were written correctly. Tonight I have to drive back to the east valley to pick up a script because the staff member that is on duty tonight isn't comfortable sending a controlled substance to be filled at CVS.... A national pharmacy... Sooooooo disappointed in this place... Read Less

No one likes to go to the emergency vet, but if you have to, this is the place to go!They brought us straight into an exam room with our dog, no waiting in a waiting room while they take our pet somewhere without us like some places do. The exam room was very comfortable, and they even provided snacks and drinks while we waited to be seen. The wait was kind of long but that is to be expected with any emergency services. The vet didn't try to sell us on unnecessary tests, and we were able to get what we needed to make our dog better. Pricing was very reasonable as well. Thank you! Read Less

I took my cat here for an emergency because they're open 24 hours. They have separate rooms for cats and dogs. We went into a cat room to wait. The room had a feliway diffuser in the outlet which I recognized because I use them at home to keep my cats calm when the cleaning ladies or landscapers visit. Even though we just walked in we were in and out of there in an hour which I appreciate! They're even able to fill prescriptions right there so I walked out with the meds I needed. Bonus they're practically in my neighborhood so the car ride was limited. (You know how cats looooove car rides!) Read Less

Do not come here!!! All they want is money. The vet assistants are waaaay more helpful than the vets. We found a great vet near my house and they are very reasonable with prices and don't make me pay more than I need to! I spoke to a manager and she was nice but I still have to pay some unnecessary fees. The girls working in the front were not helpful either and gave us the wrong information about payment plans. This is the 2nd time I have had to bring my fur-baby in late at night. Both times the staff has been amazing and made both myself and my rather large bulldog feel at ease. Absolutely love these people!!!! I was able to bring a friend's Blue Nose PitBull whom was attacked by another blue pit that was loose and even though I was not the sole owner of the dog & the fact that they worked with me considering I was only dog-sitting and the owners were all the way in New York. They worked out a very fair payment plan. As well as allowed me to come back the day before New Years Eve to have the staples removed. Even when I arrived and was told they only do it by appointment the once again worked with me and Bailey is back in good Health thanks to them and quick action as well as their location and hours are great!! This place is ok if you need services when everyone else is closed. It can be a while before they get to you. The cost of services are also higher than your normal vet. The staff is not always very quick and the management staff seem to be extra hard on the staff by yelling at them in the front and back office where anyone could hear.Read Less

The vet was very nice but doesn't know how to read an x-ray. Told us that the person that would read the x Ray was going to take 3 hours, but if we paid them 75 dollars they would get to it sooner. So they don't care about the animal, they want your money. Read Less

Our dog was having a severe nose bleed so we took her into our normal vet in Casa Grande. They tried to get us in & out with a quick fix. Before we left she started bleeding again. They stopped the bleeding & sent us on our way after $450+ in expenses for 35 minutes. We went to 1St Pet due our dog having a the same severe nose bleed a few hours later. We go right in & doctor worked on her & stopped the bleeding. The Doctor suggested to keep her for observation & to come back later that evening to pick her up. We came back & same doctor talked with us for about 45 minutes on what we needed to do to calm her down to let the nose heel. Took her home & no nose bleed for 6 months + & our bill from 1st pet was far less than the money pit in Casa Grande. Highly recommend 1st PetRead Less

Our cat was not eating or drinking for days and we took him in to 1st pet. We wanted antibiotics and iv fluids given to him at the least. The vet said that would not be necessary and instead quickly gave us a 1000 dollar plan that could show he has cancer! Yes you read that right, could show it. Not cure anything, just diagnose. We rejected that and were immediately asked if we wanted to put him down instead... I can not convey how incompetent I consider this 1st pet to be. Don't trust this vet! Read Less
