DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED! PLEASE READ THIS POST IN ITS ENTIRETY. If I could give them negative stars I would!I've had numerous bad experiences with Banfield - When my collie, who had Valley Fever that was in remission, suddenly became lethargic, wouldn't eat & became dehydrated, I took her to Banfield. The vet said he believed her Valley Fever had returned & gave her antibiotics that immediately gave her diarrhea & made her even more dehydrated. After taking her to a specialist 2 days later, I was told she had cancer & had to put her to sleep. Upon calling Banfield to cancel her wellness plan that I'd had for over 5 years, I was told I'd used some of the benefits during the last visit & I had to keep the plan for a year even though the dog was dead. This was after I offered to pay the amount they had discounted me for the services. 3 mths ago I decided to adopt a puppy. The puppy developed diarrhea & vomiting overnight. The next morning, I called Banfield to get an appt. They told me they couldn't see me, but that the dog probably had Parvo & I needed to call another location for an appt. They offered no assistance in finding another office that could help us. After calling at least 4 locations, I found one that could see us. The puppy did indeed have Parvo & I returned her to the breeder. 2 months later, after sanitizing my house with bleach, I decided to get another puppy from a different breeder. About day 5 the new puppy developed vomiting & diarrhea just like the first pup. Fearing it was Parvo again, I took her straight to Banfield on Chandler Blvd. After explaining that I'd had another pup in my home that had been diagnosed with Parvo just 2 months earlier, again I was turned away because they didn't have time to see her. I sat outside the exam rm on the bench & frantically began calling other locations to find one that could see us. I finally said screw it & took her to an emergency hospital where they tested her for Parvo. It ended up being a parasite called Giardia that was curable with antibiotics & fluids. Thanks Banfield for turning me away when my puppy might have been dying! Time is of the essence with Parvo as it kills puppies by dehydration. Now, my boyfriend has bigger issues with Banfield. He has 2 dogs on the wellness program. His White German Shepherd had some small lumps on his stomach that he kept scratching. The vet at Banfield prescribed Prednisone, a steroid, for him. My boyfriend was told to give the dog the medication for the itching, so he gave him the medication like it was Benadryl.....as needed. Every time he would run out of the medication, they would call in a refill for him. The dog has been on Prednisone for over a year & recently developed an issue where he had chewed all of his hair off of his tail to the point of raw skin that was bleeding. My boyfriend took him in. The Banfield director happened to be the vet on call that day. She reviewed the dog's medical history & told my boyfriend there had not been any 1 vet overseeing his dog's treatment. Apparently, Prednisone is not meant for long term use because of the side effects & further more, a dog that has been on Prednisone has to be weaned off slowly! The dog has been getting the medication off & on for over a year!Long term effects of Prednisone in dogs:A. You can commonly see increased thirst & appetite, panting, vomiting, restlessness & diarrhea.B. Given long term this drug may suppress the immune system & thus make the dog more prone to other diseases, but sometimes suppression of the immune system alone can be a significant problem. Extreme care must be taken when stopping prednisone, if an animal has been on this drug for an extended period of time then slow weaning off the drug is crucial when reducing the dose or stopping the drug.C. Long-term use of prednisone may result in other symptoms such as loss of hair coat, weakening of the muscles, liver impairment & behavioral changes. My boyfriend took the dog to a specialist where they removed one of his lumps. Turns out it is cancer. The dog has 6mths to a year to live! His immune system has been compromised & he has internal organ damage. Banfield just took 5+ years off this dog's life!Mad? YOU BET! Can you say malpractice! Don't you think if you were a vet & it was well known by any medical professional that Prednisone has severe long term effects, that you would check the medical history to see how long the animal had been on the drug before calling in a refill? The dog should never have been on the medication for more than 2 months tops! If you love your animal, you'd better think twice about using these people! Aside from being incompetent, they have an obvious gap in their system. THESE PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS! Read Less
