Four years ago, our 9 year old Samoyed was lethargic. Her belly was also very inflamed. My husband took her to this clinic, they barely examined her, prescribed medicines, claiming it was a mild stomach problem. When my husband returned home and told me what they had said, I knew they had misdiagnosed our baby. We decided not to come back to this clinic and chose another one. Though the second clinic was nothing spectacular, they took X-rays and told us there was a major uterus infection that needed urgent surgery. We went ahead with the surgery, all went well, and our Susie is 13 years old today. If we had trusted this second-rate clinic and its irresponsible professionals, Susie wouldn't be alive today. 3/30/2018: We brought our 4.5 year old male German Shepherd in to be examined Thursday 3/23/2018. He was vomiting and in real distress. He was seen by Dr. Gammill, his tech was Rebekah. The doctor did an examin, Listened to his heartbeat and checked his temperature, nothing more. Our boy was running a temp of 108 degrees. The whites of his eyes were a deep red. Blood was drawn and medication was given, including fluids directly into the skin which left a lump. The doctor was not sure exactly what was wrong with him but felt it might be Valley Fever. We would have to wait for the test results in a few days. ($501.67) He wasn't showing signs of improvement on Saturday. I called and spoke to Dr. Burdick, who urged us to bring him in for another examination. She too listened to his heart and took his temperature, nothing more. They administered the same medications previously given and he had another lump from the IV on his side. His fever was down but still 103.5, breathing was still labored. ($262.01) Sunday morning Dr. Gammill called and expressed his tests showed a "brush with Valley Fever" nothing to really worry about and that with the medications he was given he should be fine by Friday. Monday Dr. Burdick called and conveyed he did have Valley Fever and we needed to bring him in for an additional examination. We expressed the other doctor gave a completely different diagnosis and were confused with her's. ($317.81) and an additional testing was to be run for "exoict bacterial not showing up on what he'd already been tested for ($196.00) Supposedly Valley Fever related. Total $ 513.81 NEITHER OF THEM EVER TOOK A CHEST X Ray or suggested it. They wanted office visits and testing. I called the following day and spoke to some vet tech. explaining what was going on, his fever was spiking again and he wouldn't eat or drink anything. She put me on hold, came back to the phone and conveyed "We're very busy. The doctor said you can either bring him in for an examination or take him to the hospital". I hung up and was angry at the lack of concern for our pup. Our boy wasn't showing any real sign of improvement and there didn't seem to be any caring unless we brought him in for another exam. An appointment with another vet for a third opinion, my husband took him. They immediately took an X Ray, finding his lungs were half filled with fluid, he has pneumonia. More tests were taken and a suggestion to see a specialist at the hospital. He was diagnosed with BOTH pneumonia and Valley Fever. Whatever they gave him in the needles kicked right in and started working. Had I not insisted our boy would be dead. ($233.25) including the X ray and medications. We followed up that same day and took him to the hospital for a specialists to confirm the diagnosis. He did and gave us more instructions to follow and what to watch out for. If he became worse we had to rush him back for a hospital stay. ($486.43) necessary consultation fee. My husband stopped at Companion and asked why they didn't give him an X ray the first day which they danced around and they never really answered. One medication in particular from Companion Care was to be given in a syringe diluted with water. When he mentioned he'd stopped eating again, the vet tech explained how to give our boy the medication to line his stomach so he could eat and she gave him a syringe. Too little too late. These incompetent people NEVER told him "how to" and didn't give him a syringe to administer it. It really irritated his stomach and he stopped eating. The costs listed does not cover some of the medications we paid for. I fully intend to bring light to this place and try to close them before they do this to anyone elses beloved pet. Had they taken the x ray the first visit our boy would have been put through a lot less and would have been on his way to getting better, instead of wasting time and gouging us for every penny they could. $1,997.17 later, three different vets and a nightmare we're still dealing with. Here's the history of this facility and why YOU SHOULD NEVER GO THERE! I have no axe to grind, no drama, just reality as to this Clinic. I started taking my animals here about 20 yrs ago. Dr G, the owner wrote that he had lost interest in animal medicine and he sold to Dr Lon M. Dr Lon had mixed reviews. He performed sugery to stabalize a shoulder joint on my dog ($1800.) It failed due to the surgical site becomeing infected, requiring a second surgery to undo the first ($1100.) Dr Lon M. apologized repeatedly but refused to readjust the cost while admitting that the first surgery caused the necessity for the second. Dr Lon M. told me personally that he was working 80 hours a week and he acknowledged that prices were higher than most Vets. He sold the practice to a heartless Corporation back East who does not give a rats ass about our animals---it's all about money, folks!! Dr Howten was hired as was Carpenter. Howten is a caring Vet who often acknowledged that she personally was at odds with Corporate over pricing. Carpenter left. Howton appeared less satisfied at the Clinic until she recently also relocated to a practice in Gilbert. I periodically take my animals there for shots and routine matters since I now drive to Adobe Animal Clinic in Scottsdale where the passionate staff and Dr Newland are devoted animal care experts. DO NOT USE THIS CLINIC for anything short of a routine matter and, expect to be over-charged. Patricia Crow O1-17-2018 Read Less

I made an appointment for my 15 year old dog who has worms. It has been 2 days and I have not received the test results. When I called I was told maybe tomorrow. Well tomorrow I will be in their office and not leave without a full refund or the results so I can start treating my dog. Their sales pitch is lengthy and annoying. At no time does anybody ask you about your concerns. If they do care about animals it gets drowned out by trying to sell you all kinds of procedures. This seems to be common around as well as inflated prices. Another vet quoted us $2,000 to have an external lump removed from a 14-year old dog. Back jo,e we had it done for $500. Retirees are being exploited by theses vets for the love of their animals. I will now go to the Animal Welfare League in Phoenix. They are a good alternative for those of us that want the best for our animals and others. As a non-profit their charges are more realistic for people on fixed incomes. Read Less

We had a very frustrating experience here with our cat. They worked us in for an emergency appointment, which was good, but it took 3 hours before we were finished. The visit was expensive and we were to come back the next day for blood work. The next day, expecting only to drop off our cat for an hour or so, we waited 30 minutes before a vet tech told us that we would need to have our cat examined again--at additional cost--before the vet, who was apparently very inexperienced, could do the draw. We left. We will not ever come back as we found a competent and experienced vet the next day. Read Less

If you go to this clinic, no matter how concerned you are about your pet's condition, scrutinize the treatment plan Dr. Howton gives you to sign. In my experience she recommended Β more than $700 in testing procedures that were not necessary to making my dog well again. I made the mistake of thinking that if she, as the professional, recommended a test then it must be necessary to saving my dog. I was wrong. I learned through a subsequent complaint to the Veterinary Board that as long as a proposed treatment can remotely be linked to a symptom the dog presents the investigating committee, consisting entirely of vets, considers that proposed treatment acceptable - and not a violation. For example, if your dog gets a poison in its mouth, the staff flushes the mouth, and the dog has a little congestion in his lungs, she can tell you he may have Valley Fever and should have a $175 test for that. On Feb. 18th 2016 our 9 month old cat sustained an injury to his left leg, so we made an appointment, I told them that the leg may be broken and they said bring him in, and we took Marty in on Feb. 23rd 2016. My wife and I were not pleased with how Stephanie Howton examined Marty, she never even touched the injured leg. Also the cost for the exam and three x-rays was $ 454. I told them that I could not afford that. Since hind sight is always 20/20, I believe at least one x-ray should have been offered. I agreed to pay for some pain meds and the exam for around $88, and they referred me to one of the most expensive veterinary orthodontist in the valley. Why would they waste our time when they don't even practice in orthodontics? I will NEVER go back! Read Less

First of all, let me start off by saying that if I could give this hospital no stars I would, but unfortunately in order to leave a review you have to pick a star. I was refered to this clinic because a friend of a friend had been bringing their pets in for years and loved the staff. The techs Dr Lon and Dr Howton as well as the front desk girls. I had came in a couple of times with some people who live around my area cause I had been thinking about bringing my pets there as well.... Over the years it seemed like faces had changed , at first it bothered me a little bit..... however, I know life changes people move ect. BUT.......within the last couple of month's the good senior staff that remembered my friends pets and their owners started dropping like flies , the wait times got longer and things got different (not in a good way) recently they got a new medical director named "Dr Carpenter" DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO HER! I have heard several people saying that she is recommending all these labs and other tests, but then people aren't getting a call with their results for quite some time, some have even called to follow up on the status and she's either not there or in rooms and still takes forever to get back to them, I have also been hearing a lot of my friends complain that prescription refill requests that have been submitted are also not being handled in a timely fashion. I have witnessed their new manager disrespect clients and staff while I have came into the clinic as well. Within the last month or 3 ALL of the staff we trusted are no longer There......There are all these NEW people and I feel like they seem to not know what their doing they're keeping people on hold forever or not answering the lines, I also hear very often employees laughing and smeeming like they are just screwing around with each other instead of putting customers 1st , I have had friends put in food request orders that are taking what seems like forever to come in. I also have heard from others that simple things like frontline for certain weights they're either out of stock or "waiting" for more to get in. I don't know what has happened but I am extremely unhappy and unimpressed at how things are going and I would defiantly NOT reccomend taking you're 4 legged loved ones to this clinic. And if for some reason you have NO other choice, I would ONLY let Dr Howton touch your pet. You can't even have a basic toenail trim done or heart worm test ran with a technician unless your pet has a rabies vaccination OR has been seen within a year "for the heart worm test" I am leaving this review mainly for my neighbors because they did not feel comfortable leaving a review, because it is hard for them to drive and they are worried that if they have to bring their animal's back to this hospital that they will be treated differently. My apologies for the long reading but I felt that people needed to be warned. Read Less

Read Less
