I have been working with Dr Wilkinson for probably 10 years with the 3 dogs and 3 cats that we've had. As of this week the last one, Milo, is gone. Dr. Wilkinson is the finest and most compassionate veterinarian whom I have had the pleasure to use over the past forty plus years with numerous dogs. He has been most responsive to the needs of my dog and my daughter’s dog over the past eight years. He referred my dog to an outstanding veterianary ophthalmologist who saved her sight. I feel that Dr. Wilkensen was not adequately compassionate to my 15+ year old dog. Took him in because he had thrown up the night before, rather than suggest testing in stages, he put him through a series of test that should not have been done. which stressed him out his last day of life. I admit that I authorized the tests, but I was in an extreme state of stress. The vet should be able to suggest that at that age better to do testing in a less aggressive protocol for such an aged dog. Read Less

Wow, I'm very shocked by the horrible reviews I've read on here.  I've taken my dogs and cats to this hospital since 2003 and I find the vets to be conscientious and very capable. Yes, they can be expensive but so is every other place in town. Arizona is an expensive place for vet care. I'm from the midwest and it is half price there.  Unfortunately, that's just the way it is. I have yet to find one that is "dirt cheap" and if they are, you are probably getting what you pay for.  We have seen Dr. Overby on a few occasions and he is great but our animals' primary vet is Dr. Wilkinson.  I'm not understanding why people are calling him an a-hole, etc.  He is a quiet man but very smart and goes out of his way to explain the diagnosis and our possible choices of treatment. He has never been nasty to us even if he is having a bad day.  And trust me, we've been there on a bad day when the cops had to be called to haul out a verbally abusive client right before our appt. He was STILL kind and did his job well. There is nothing wrong with being a quiet, introvert as long as he is a great vet.  I've actually never had a vet spend this much time explaining an injury or disease. We were just in there a few days ago for my dog's torn ACL and he grabbed a model of the knee and showed me exactly what happened.  He explained each option in great detail and even offered to refer me to an orthopedic surgeon for a second opinion.  Dr. Wilkinson is far friendlier with my cats as that is his specialty.  He has brushed and even kissed both of mine (they are rather adorable!).  So, the man prefers cats and that is fine with me as he is still a good vet to our dogs. I'm not paying him to make friends with my dogs.The only somewhat negative thing I can say is one of the front desk assistants has a tendency to be a little abrasive with a touch of "busy-body" in her.  We don't like that she talks about clients  the minute they walk out the door. We've seen it a couple of times.  And every single time we deal with her, she is always asking if we are new patients as we aren't in the computer.  Every time. We are in the computer and have been since 2003, but I think it's a little bit of a power trip for her and she just says whatever is on her mind. We visit the Tucson area frequently and were in town with a fairly new puppy. Our puppy became ill and our usual vet back home recommended taking him to a local vet to be checked out. After phoning a few vets close to our location, we were accepted for an appointment by Duval Animal Hospital. The staff was cheerful, enthusiastic, kind, and welcoming. The vet was compassionate and eager to do the best for our little one. I felt our puppy was well cared for, and I feel a great deal of confidence in this clinic. Took our dog who we suspected had a thyroid issue. They did a through exam with all the appropriate tests and have handles the issue very appropriately. Yes, he does have hypothyroidism so will be following up on that. Read Less

My experiences with Duval Animal Hospital have been excellent. The staff is friendly, professional and polite. The vets really listen to the owner and get along well the 4-legged clients as well as their owners. When there is a problem with a pet that needs highly specialized treatment, the vets are quick to refer the animal to that care. They also keep up with the latest treatments and information. I feel like I can speak with some authority as I have 5 dogs that are all patients at Duval Animal Hospital. I have been using them for 3 years now, when I moved down here. I can't say enough good things about the Duval Animal Hospital. They keep me up to date on vaccinations, semi-annual physicals for older dogs and they work with me. First overall impression was pretty good. The staff was polite and attentive. They wanted my dog to come in for a follow up appointment and was very adamant about making that appointment. I did not make it at first but after them calling a couple times I finally made the appointment. At the follow up the doctor wanted to give vaccines two years early before they were due. I refused because it wasn't necessary. Upon checkout of the follow up appointment they charge me $75 for the follow up. I find it absolutely ridiculous to be charge so much money for a follow up. I really felt like they were trying to nickel and dime me for everything they could. Read Less

I give Duval Animal Hospital a five star rating! My little dog just had her teeth cleaned by Dr. Wilkinson. The price was fair, the job was well done, and the staff so courteous and helpful! They provided me with color pictures of her mouth before and after, the tech provided me with follow up meds and toothbrush, and Dr. Wilkinson talked to me about how the procedure went and follow up care. And the staff called me the next morning to see how my little dog was doing. And the following day we had an emergency with our large dog. The staff got him right in for a blood test and exam. I had to get Andy into a vet in Emergency . The Vet I normally take him to told me I couldn't get in to see them that day. It would be A WHOLE WEEK BEFORE I could get him in ., I called Duval Animal Hospital and was lucky to get him in to see a Vet within the hour. My pets have had such wonderful care by Duval Animal Hospital. I love the front desk staff. They are always kind, considerate and attentive. The vet assistants are always kind and affectionate to my babies. Dr. Wilkinson is very knowledgeable, very attentive, is always sharing information and educating me. He calls me personally when my dog's lab results come and and always kindly answers all my questions. I have no idea why someone else said the front desk staff is rude, because they have never been rude to me or anyone. They seem endlessly patient, even with difficult people. I am so glad that I found this clinic as they all take such good care of my babies and me. I would never consider going anywhere else.Read Less

The animals receive great care but the front desk woman are so incredibly rude it almost makes not want to go here. I have been taking the dogs for several years now and in general have been happy with the care they receive. Customer service sucks! I do plan on talking to the Dr. about it on the next visit, the last phone call I made was unacceptable- I hope they get nicer or we may move. Read Less
