My family and I moved to Laveen 5 years ago from Tempe. We have 3 dogs and our original vet in Tempe was just to far to go to when one of my dogs was not feeling well. I tried someone else locally and was not happy-they could never fit you in when it was urgent-or urgent to us as our dogs are family and they added a new vet whom I was not comfortable with. So I tried Dr. Watson for one of them when she got sick and as usual, the other couldn't get me in. I have been sold since then. Even if they are booked, the ask what the problem is and usually they will attempt to get you in even if you have to wait. That is very important to a pet owner. Also Dr. Watson doesn't limit himself to traditional Western Veterinary medicine and thinks out of the box. We are transitioning all 3 of the dogs over to his care as we go along and couldn't be happier. No vet care is inexpensive, but he is fair and less than some others around. Read Less

Kitten of mine suddenly was sick overnight, it seemed, and being as it was Saturday any vets I called were fully booked. Happened across Dr. Tom’s number and as I imagined, they were booked for the day as well, however, unlike the other places I called, they took a second to ask what was going on with my kitten. She proceeded to tell me she could squeeze me in, although there would be a wait because of their scheduled appointments. The simple fact that she bothered to ask what was going on and tried to get me in, rather than send me off and hang up, meant the world. Finding vets that you can trust is not easy, and with just that phone call I went into our appointment with a good feeling and reassurance that I had made a good choice. Since then we have been very pleased with the service and attention our fur babies receive. My Irish Setter is very hyper and gets real crazy when we arrive. I took my dog there for a bite from another dog, he had an open womb and the doctor told me that he needed stitches and medication the bill was $500. I told them i didnt have that kind of money so they charged me $200 for medication and bandage. they wanted me to go every 5 days to repandage him and $20 bucks. I went to my vet they charged me 80$ for everything the visit, stitches , and bandage wrap. I understand its a hospital but why charge double the price? Read Less

I went to the Animal Hospital of Laveen because my regular vet wouldn't squeeze me in. My dog had severe swelling in her face and Dr. Watson was very good with her. Unfortunately she has a terminal cancer but our treatment by the staff and doctor was very good and we will take our other animals to Dr. Watson from now on. I have been a client of Animal Hospital of Laveen for more than 5 years. I could not ask for a better staff and clinic. I have a mastiff mix that is 8+ years old.  When I first moved to Laveen, I was overjoyed that I found a veterinarian that lived close enough to me.  I've taken my babygirl to this place since she was a small pup.  She was a pretty healthy dog, so we didn't have to visit much.  I stopped taking her there when she was older, started going blind and snapped at the vet.  I figured that she did not like him much.  I took her in on 02/21/2017 for a checkup and the doctor wanted to do a major surgery on her.  Although, the vet is a person that shows no compassion towards animals and seems straight forward about his money, his personality wasn't really my issue at this time.  The vet assistant was the problem.  She was rude, unprofessional and had a ugly personality.  When I mentioned to her that I wanted to get a second opinion on a major surgery for MY DOG, she snapped at me and said, 'fine, do what you want.  I don't care".  I couldn't believe my ears.  It took everything in my soul to control my anger and what I really wanted to do by acting on my anger.  Did they really think I would allow someone so rude and non-compassionate to cut open my dog knowing that they did not care if she were to live or die. That is the way that I felt as I was walking out of the door.  This assistant should not be working in a vet office with that attitude. To say that I was shocked is being nice.  I would walk in 120 degree heat to another vet office across town before I ever go to this place again.  They can have the $49 they charged me for the visit and I hope that it takes them a long way.  Lesson to be learned....listen to your animals.  When they feel something isn't right, we have to advocate for them, make them feel comfortable and always have their best interest at heart even when another doesn't.  Pitiful, but we all have to answer to someone one day. so I will let God handle it from here. Horrible service. They didn't know what was wrong with our dog, they told us that her case was going to be a project. Neglected us while we were needing the paperwork to sign. Before we had left. While he did that, he went straight to another patient. I get it he's the only doctor in the "hospital" but still, kinda rude... Also, they bandaged our dog improperly. Dr. Watson has been our go to vet since moving to the area years ago. He was a bit tough in the beginning, but now he seems to know all about my pets when I take them in. One of my dogs is on continuous medication and will be for life. Dr. Watson is thorough and even humors me when I bring up "Dr.google" and give him more options! We are newer to the area and we were concerned about our pooch.   We called in to make an appointment.   They were able to get us in right away.  The staff was very friendly and the price for the treatment we received was reasonable as well.   They recommended starting with a simple treatment first and move on to more advanced options later on if needed.   We felt welcome and that they really cared about our dog's best interests.   We will definitely be back for future check ups and veterinary care for our other pets as well! I have used this clinic a couple of times.  I have a gentle giant, that is a rescue.  Being a rescue I don't know his history.  I found out quickly that he is very anxious at the vet.  I had to muzzle my boy, that was ok for safety.   The tech seemed afraid of my dog which didn't help.  The Dr came in which caused more anxiety - this followed by a few derogatory statements from the vet.  I agree that for routine shots they may be ok but I'll be looking for a new vet.  The front office staff were fabulous. Worst service ever! They had me waiting for more than 1 hour outside as their office they did not have enough chairs for all of their customers, not once did they ask if we were doing fine while waiting. After an hour of waiting they called me and my poor dog in. Veterinarian seemed not to know what he was doing, asked me 3 questions and had one of his assitant do a parvo test on my dog and said he did not have parvo my dog died the next morning. Dr. Watson and his staff are very thorough in their jobs, and I have been going there since they opened. It's great to have a vet close by that you TRUST to bring your loved pets too. Sure wish he did Birds though:( If you have a emergency they will fit you in and help you as quick as they can. I have to say that the Animal Hospital of Laveen is a LIFE SAVER, litterally! My Grandpup, Bella swallowed pennies sometime in the days leading up to New Years Eve. She threw-up two the day before, at which time my daughter called me frantically. I drove clear out to the other side of town (51st Ave and Thunderbird) to pick my daughter up along with Bella. As she called from her cell phone to numerous Vets while I was driving, and unfortunately kept getting turned away by three different Vets in her area due to the Holiday; it came across to me to get to my area in Laveen, surely someone will see us... This is where the story really starts... The staff was closing the office at Noon on New Years Eve, and I frantically ran up and said I needed help. My daughter was carrying the lifeless Bella in her arms following behind me. I explained what the situation was and they took us in, locking the doors behind us. It turns out that after a few X-rays, Bella still had what looked line one penny lodged in her intestines, but it ended up being THREE pennies lodged. We were told that she needed an Animal Hospital and suggested Emergency Animal Hospital and they called in advance to inform the staff to expect us as we were transporting Bella there. Bella needed two blood transfusions and was a very very sick little girl. If it were not for Animal Hospital of Laveen we would have lost this sweet baby! Bella has fully recovered and is doing very well!!! We are so grateful to the Animal Hospital of Laveen!!! Thank you for saving our precious family member! Read Less

I haven't had an office that knew how to talk to him or control him as well as the Animal Hospital of Laveen.  The office staff is amazing and they always call to check up on my dog after he's been in there. I've been to this place a few times now and I can honestly say that I couldn't be happier. They are very friendly and you can tell that they know what they are doing. We had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Watson at our last visit (he is the owner I believe) and you can tell that he is very knowledgeable and enjoys what he does. I asked him quite a few questions about our 8 year old dog and 6 month old puppy and he did not seem to mind at all. We have always been happy taking our dogs here for their regular checkups and shots. But I was really impressed by the staff when 4 weeks ago we took our little poodle in, now our dog was not well and we had had to make the hardest decision to put our baby to sleep. The whole thing was traumatic and my poor daughter was crying her eyes out. But the staff was so kind and caring, they were with us every step of the way and stayed by our side as we went through this. I don't understand the unhappy reviews because my pets love this place!  I used to drive from Laveen to Tempe to a different vet until one day one of my dogs got really sick really fast.  I googled Vets in my area and called them hysterical because I really thought my dog was in trouble.  I told them the situation and they said to hop in the car and come right there.  Someone met me outside and rushed my dog to the back and they did everything they could for him and kept me updated every step of the way.  Everything worked out well and he was able to go home later that day but ever since then I've always taken my dogs here.  My dogs love it so much that if we even mention the office manager's name or say they are going to the vet they freak out because they are so excited to go.  When I call them to make an appointment, they know who I am before they even have a chance to pull up my dogs' chart.  When I arrive with my three dogs in tow, the staff talks to each one individually and help us out in any way that they can.  If any of my dogs hear the office manager's voice in the back of the hospital, they start jumping up and down until she comes to talk to them.  The doctors here are great, they always listen to what I have to say and never push taking any specific medications or feeding them food like the last few vets I have gone to does.  I plan on moving in the next few years to the other side of the valley and I fully intend on still taking my dogs here. First, never have I experienced the kind of customer service that Michael gives. She's amazing, caring, and either has eidetic memory or an amazing system because she seems to remember every owner and pet by name the minute they come through the door. She's completely on top of things, quick to resolve difficulties, and always shows compassion.The rest of the staff is just as good at what they do. My dog can be aggressive, but the techs and Dr. Watson handle her like she's the friendliest mutt in town, and she responds! I'm always amazed when she goes with them to the back for tests or shots so willingly. (And, bless their hearts, I'm appreciative of how matter of factly they handle the accidents she has because she's frightened.) The vet I'd used previously told me my 10 year old dog was just... old. That her aches and pains were inevitable. Dr. Watson put her a regimen of diet, exercise and pain medications that have turned her back into a puppy. We're so grateful for the care and attention we receive. As for cost? More than fair. I was paying double for almost everything at my last vet (and they weren't high end). Judging by previous reviews, I'm going to guess that this place has come a long way from what it used to be.  The staff are very friendly, and so far my fur babies haven't had any problems with them.  My cat is usually extremely afraid of strangers but he will actually "talk" to the vet techs/assistants!  Every time we go we have virtually no wait time.  What I really like about this place is that they send me appointment reminder emails and text messages.  I hope that everyone that has had bad experiences here in the past has a better one next time :) (if you have returned, that is) Read Less

AHL is awesome. I've been going here for 4 years and have had life threatening issues with my cat, Smokey.Dr. Watson provided options and only when necessary suggested an operation that was needed due to a blocking issue. i brought Smokey back several times during this process and each time Dr. Watson was very patient and explained options to me in detail. The staff is also very attentive and knowledgable. Lydia helped Smokey by expanding his eCollar, an unprompted event! As another reviewer wrote, this place is basically a need to go to only because it is local to where I live.  At first, when I read that they practice alternative medicine, I thought that was great, but it really didn't matter in my dog's case.For routine vaccinations and check-ups they're fine.  Everything is clean and neat and the front desk staff are always pleasant, including on the phone.Here are some things that went wrong:1) I went to buy Frontline for our dog and they said they had none, only Advantix (I believe they now carry Frontline).  Advantix was newer and I hadn't used it on my dog, but I thought I'd try it.  That night after I applied it to his skin, my dog was running around the house nonstop and panting, rubbing against things.  I was extremely concerned, as you can imagine.  I brought him to the vet, who just said, "He's just having some reaction, he should get over it in a day."  Well, this behavior still kept up.  Finally, I noticed what seemed like a burn where I applied the Advantix.  I called the office and they told me what to do to remove it, etc.  So basically the vet didn't figure it out right away.2) My dog was bit by another dog.  Not seeming in critical condition, I brought him in the next morning, and they saw him right away.  That was good.  They shaved his areas that were bit and dressed his wounds and gave me a bunch of antibiotics and pain meds for him.  But they didn't stitch the two bite marks.  He has gotten bit before and had stitches, and healed up just fine afterwards.  Now, several months later, his hair is mostly grown back where he was shaved, but the two bite marks are bare--I'm thinking it's scar tissue growing in.  So he should have had stitches, and that wouldn't have been a problem. My wife did take him for teeth cleaning at another office in north Phoenix, and my understanding is they were much more professional.  Also, for an emergency, I'd recommend the nearby Emergency Animal Clinic. I'm not sure what happened with the first reviewer, it sounds like a bizarre experience for sure!  But all of our dealings (we have a dog that gets chronic ear infections) with the Animal Hospital of Laveen have been fantastic.  The vet calls to follow up on our dog and how she's doing - it's hard to find a regular doctor who does that for humans!  We love them. I cannot say enough positive things about this hospital and staff. My pup was really sick; they took the time to explain everything to me and gave my options for care. The dr explained the plan and the nurse reviewed the cost with me. The economy has destroyed my own pocketbook and I was so stressed about money. The staff reviewed my options and helped me find a payment plan allowed me to save my pup. Dr Watson was honest with me about the goals and possible poor outcome and did everything he could to help. The drs and staff called to give me updates during the course of my pup's treatment. Every time I came in to see him, the staff were holding or caring for him just like he was their own puppy. There have since been 2 occasions we needed to bring our dog in, both times we tried bringing her in during what most vets have as normal hours (early Sat & afternoon Thur)... the first time they were NOT open and we were told to take her to an emergency animal hospital (this was not an emergency situation) - this visit cost us in excess of 300.00. Maybe it's delusional for me to assume that vets should care about animals and have some degree of professionalism, just like human doctors do. For some crazy reason (silly me!), I assumed that people go to veterinary school and open up their own practice because they genuinely care about pets and respect those who choose to own them. Laveen Animal Hospital is one of those vet clinics that remind you that some people become vets without having the love for animals and respect for pet-owners that can make an experience at an animal hospital so pleasant and rewarding. I made an appointment for my two new kittens at this animal hospital because they just needed their first post-adoption vaccines, and I figured it wasn't worth it to drive all the way to VCA Elliot Park (the clinic that works with the AZ Humane Society to provide free post-adoption services; the doctor there is really kind and professional) in Tempe just for the shots. The woman on the phone was kind enough, and the receptionists at the desk when I arrived were cordial, although not nearly as friendly as the Office Manager and staff at VCA. However, I was very irked by the fact that my appointment was at 1 (the clinic opens at 1 on Tuesdays), but I wasn't seen until 1:20. The technician was also fairly friendly, but my real problem with this place arose when the doctor himself came in. I was blocking the path to the little desk with the equipment and computer, but instead of saying "excuse me," he touched my hair and sort of pushed himself past me. It was so unexpected that I barely processed that it had happened! I would have taken it as an accident except that he didn't apologize or anything! He then procedeed to give the two a pretty cursory exam and then the vaccines. He asked if I had any questions, and I certainly didn't! I just wanted to go! The cost came out to $134 for the two exams and sets of vaccines, which is fairly affordable, but I'm definitely not going to give up Tempe professionalism in order to have Laveen savings! Read Less
