After experiencing horrible service and being ripped off at Emergency Animal Clinic off of Juniper Rd in Gilbert I swore never to ever go there again. When one of my dogs became ill with the same symptoms as his brother a few years back, I knew I couldn't go there and was thankful I had a Magnet Advertising a 24 hr 1st Pet Veterinary Centers in Mesa. I was expecting the same type of treatment and was pleasantly surprised on the great service and care we received. The front personnel took our dog immediately into the back room after taking short information from us to input in the computer. The place was clean, each room I saw had a pony wall with a half wall aquarium, and very comfortable seating. It had an entire welcoming atmosphere. They immediately accessed my dog to make sure not a life & death emergency while waiting for the vet who was taking care of a dog who was hit by a car. When it was our turn and we explained what was going on and our financial status . . . still paying off a $13,000 medical bill three years back on our other dog, asked if they would try to keep cost down for us to only necessity. (The office visit, one x-ray, urine analysis our bill was $256.00). Since now our dog could drip urine, we felt he was now able to empty part of his bladder and not rupture it, we opt to not have a catheter to empty his bladder or surgery until we could see our vet in the morning. They checked to make sure how much he dribbled and made sure we knew if we had any problems, to feel free to bring him back. They also let us know that if he stopped dribbling to no urine at all, it was an emergency and to get care immediately. The whole time we were there, they would come in and make sure he including ourselves were doing fine and even brought us a basket full of snacks and beverages for our wait.
In the morning I took my dog to my vet and brought the paper work with me. To my surprise, they had already faxed the information and it was there waiting for us before 7:30 a.m. Their diagnoses was the same as my vet's second opinion. Before emergency surgery at the other ER in Gilbert, we had spent over $1,000 for diagnoses for our other dog with the same symptoms (bladder stone blocking urine flow). In our case, 1st Pet Veterinary Center was a total better experience and we were never pressured for any tests or procedures. I felt they cared for our dog and us. They also presented estimates before performing any procedure and took time with us to explain what they were for, cost, and outcome.
The only negative and it could be because they were being accommodating to only taking one and perhaps my dog moved, my vet's x-ray was sharper quality. The other charges we opt not to have: To empty the bladder would have been $110 for a small dog. The night we were there, they did not have an ultrasound tech and if we needed it for further evaluation for the prostate, they had one at their Chandler office. That cost would have been $125 for the tech and the abdominal ultra sound $339.00. Oh, they are open 24 hours 7 days a week for not only emergencies but for regular pet care service too.
Overall I am very satisfied with the care we received and will gladly use them again should we be faced with an after hour emergency again. Read Less
