Wow!! After experiencing several mishaps with our Vet for prescription approvals through 1800PetMeds, they decided they weren't providing the care our dogs needed and wanted us to go elsewhere. The vet's office charges 2-3 times the price compared to the online medication, and they make excuses as to why that is. Perhaps they just didn't want us to buy elsewhere. I don't know. Its funny too because anyone who knows us, knows our dogs are pampered. They only get the best of the best of eveything. However, because of the number of problems we've had with intestinal parasites, it is extremly expensive to get rid of them. That's the only reason I went through Petmeds. After several go arounds with this, I only wanted to expedite approval, and no matter what we did to help that, we met obstacles every time we needed to fill prescriptions. This delayed my dogs from getting better. Yet, I was never rude to them. In fact, I have been extremely patient with their office, given the circumstances. I have never in my life been "fired" as a paying customer, and its shocking considering how much money I spent there in the last 2 years. It was more than enough to consider getting pet insurance, but insurance doesn't cover pre-existing conditions. Although we considered going elsewhere for a long time because of this problem, now we have no choice. Oh well. We will be better off I'm sure. Read Less

Wow. What oh what can I say about this place? I really, really hope that they read this review. We have taken our almost 2 year old French Bulldog to this clinic since we got him at 12 weeks old. I was always happy with the customer service we received from the vet techs and office staff until recently. (But I've never liked the price. Oh well, healthy dogs = happy homes. Our Sherlock had Giardia when we first got him and we paid the outrageous prices and purchased all of the medication directly from Ahwatukee Commons Vet Hospital. It took 2 full treatments of medication and according to the lab results it cleared up.My husband and I work some pretty long hours at times so we would bring Sherlock to daycare a few days a week and at some point he got reinfected with Giardia. We paid all that money again, shelling out at times $500-$600 a visit for all of the appointments, perscriptions and fecal tests. We totally understand that Frenchies are expensive to own so we sucked it up and paid the prices. This happened yet again. More vet bills, we paid it and moved on.After a long discussion my husband and I decided to get a second dog to keep Sherlock company and pull him out of daycare because we couldn't figure out why this was happening. We ended up getting a little 8 week old French Bulldog female Shadow. We did what every good owner would do and brought her in for her first round of shots and requested the Giardia test. It came back positive. However, THIS time we were going to save some money and get the perscription through 1-800-PET-MEDS because it's a fraction of the cost. This is when it all went south. They are not willing to help in anyway. We couldn't even get them to call in the perscription on time it took call, after call, after call to FINALLY get them to get the perscription correct. We figured this was a one time problem and moved on. We followed all the steps and guess what? They tested positive again. At this point my husband requested a paper perscription so we could maybe have it filled at a store locally. Come to find out we couldn't so I had to return the perscription to the office in person so they could try again to fax it to Pet Meds. When I arrived at the office they told me to have a seat because the office manager Melissa wanted a word with me. She arrives a few minutes later and asks me to go into an exam room with her so we can discuss some things in private to which I agreed.I was flat out scolded. She told me that my husband was harassing her staff about these perscription faxes and that it needed to stop and basically that if we have issues we need to speak with her directly. I was furious with my husband! I was truly under the impression that he was giving them a hard time. He wasnt. He was demanding answers. He wanted to know why our pets are suffering because the staff can't get it together which I understand because I felt the same way. I leave, they fax in the perscription and all was said and done. Until they tested positive for a third time. Once again, same issue with the perscriptions so I called and requested to speak with Melissa and the staff member took my info and said she would call me BY 930am the next day. 930 came and went and about 430 came around and just as I was leaving work she called and of course I missed the call. By the time I got home it was too late and she left for the day. Today my husband called the office and she was at lunch. She did call after her lunch and it seems like they have the perscription all worked out but inquired about why we insist on going through pet meds. We explained to her that it is a cost thing and that they're a fraction of the price. She responded by saying that she understands what it's like to struggle with money because she went to college. Wait! Hold up! Who the crap said we are struggling?? We are NOT struggling, we just don't want to pay their inflated prices for meds. For those who scan to the bottom of the reviews for the outcome here it is: She went on to tell us that she had a conversation with Dr. Elliott and they have concluded that they are not able to fulfil our pets needs with the perscriptions so they would email us their medical records and we can find another vet. We were dumped by this useless vet all because we wanted to find a more affordable perscription company. Needless to say I had the records sent to my email within 10 minutes. They can't fax in a perscription but they sure as hell know how to attach a .pdf to an email in a hurry. P.s. I was going to wait for the records before I wrote this review. Lucky for me I got them so fast that the anger and frustration is still fresh! Suckers. Read Less

Although the reason I went to Ahwatukee Commons Animal Hospital was not a good one (my kitten had gotten extremely sick very fast) they handled my situation with gentleness and kindness. Dr Eliott was gentle with the diagnosis but straight forward and explained everything at an understandable level. My kitten was tested and came back positive for the Coronavirus that had mutated into FIP. There is no cure for this disease and it took her from a healthy kitten to the brink of passing in 3 and a half weeks. Instead of letting her suffer I decided euthanization was the best for her and they were very kind and supportive through the whole process. Elsa get's a little nervous when she goes to the vet but everyone there does their best to make her feel so comfortable. Dr. Elliot is very kind and is so gentle with Elsa and as nervous as she is knowing she is at the vet, she loves Dr. Elliot. They also have a rewards program that is totally worth the $90 per year! You earn money back on what you spend at the vet and get two free checks up per year. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is some of the prices are a bit high, but not as much as some other places. And the service you get is well worth it. Went here on a few recommendations. Seemed okay upon entering. But, when the vet entered the exam room, my dog cowered and was extremely frightened. It was like she saw a monster from a horror flick. She's a Doberman. She's never reacted to anyone like that. In fact, she loves (almost) everyone. I had to hold onto her the whole time the vet was in the room. I was afraid she might attack, which has never been a concern. I should have listened to her. She's a great judge of character. We went in for an ear infection. But, $677 later and after having multiple guilt trips laid upon me for not doing one test or another, I was sucked dry. Not only did the vet lay on the guilt trips, but she added clever little digs about how my dog wasn't well socialized (she has her Canine Good Citizen award). Never again will I go this vet. A week later, we went to another vet for a urinary tract infection. My dog reacted as usual (ho-hum) to the vet, had a thorough exam... probably 45 minutes, lab test, and antibiotic for $77. That's my kind of vet. Read Less

This place did a pretty good job for veterinary services and I would recommend them. My dog had been consistently vomiting daily and losing weight rapidly. The doctor was great with my pet and understood my needs. They weren't able to diagnose what was making her ill, but it's understandable since all of her tests appeared normal and the dog can't exactly explain their symptoms to you. They said food allergies were their best guess since I had already tried dewormer and antibiotics with no luck so we tried switching the food to their recommended brand. That didn't seem to work either but she did slowly recover months later and is now fine. Yay!As for the boarding service they provide, I would not recommend. My previous boarder seems to have suddenly gone out of business so I decided on this place since it was a last minute trip and I knew they would have her information on file. It was $22 a day for boarding which seemed pretty reasonable to me.I found out when I got there to check her in that the dog is only let out of the kennel twice a day for feeding and to use the restroom unless you pay $7  per play session. That was so sad to me! I felt like I was leaving her in a prison. Most other places I have used either have a play area for the animals that they are left out in during business hours and the dog is only kenneled at night. So obviously I had to add some play sessions so I didn't feel like more of a monster than I already did leaving her there. I was leaving on a Friday evening for a short trip that I would return Saturday evening from. They told me I would only be charged for the half day Friday since I was dropping her off late afternoon, which was great. I would be arriving back home too late on Saturday so I hoped to pick her up Sunday morning, alas they are not open on Sundays and do not offer any pickup time so your pet is stuck in doggy jail for an additional day. Then when my husband picked her up first thing on Monday morning, we were charged for a half day for Monday as well even though I don't think she had not even been fed yet. So basically I was charged for 3 full days of boarding against my (and my poor little dog's) will. Oh and there is a mandatory flea/tick bath that they charge you for as well. My dog still hasn't forgiven me for that weekend. Good vet, definitely choose a different boarder. Your pet and wallet will thank you. Read Less

10 years ago, this was the first place we came to because it was close and looked nice. 10 years later, we are still patients, and I would never go anywhere else. Dr Elliot is fantastic. She's done 3 surgeries in the last year and a half for our geriatric dog who has skin cancer, and I know she has his best interest at heart. She knows our animals, and is very gentle with them. Her staff is friendly, we are usually able to get in fairly soon,  its not a long wait, and the office is clean! Without going into too much detail, there are two specific incidents I want to mention. One, is when we had our dog Madison. She was NOT dog friendly. So when she needed her nails clipped, I told the girls ahead of time and they made sure we came in at a time when no one else would be in the waiting room. They even cleared out all the other patients in the back as to keep Madison calm during her clipping. It was amazing and I felt so comfortable bringing her there when we otherwise hardly felt comfortable with her anywhere else. Loved people. Hated other dogs.Another incident is when our other dog (Madison's former housemate until they started fighting and before she went to live with my parents) was when our dog Boston got out of our yard. We were ticketed for a loose dog and had to quarantine him for 10 days. Dr Elliot's office was the first place we called in a panic because we didn't want to send our dog to live in a county shelter for 10 days. They immediately cleared a place for him. I know he was well cared for there. And it wasn't as expensive as we originally thought either. I just love this office and as long as we are pet owners, we will never go anywhere else. Read Less

Description of Work Done:  I have three kittens and two of them have had to go here for a vaccine or for some sort of non-regular/scheduled treatment.  Quality of Work Completed:  I gotta say, Dr. Elliot and the lab techs are awesome.  They are incredibly friendly, are totally focused on my kitten's welfare, and they take the time to explain options.  They don't just jump the gun with a half-assed solution, like other vets in the area.  And at the end, the always make my cats feel better.  The best thing about Dr. Elliot and her team is that the do a great job of making sure "extraneous" procedures aren't done; they excerise sound, professional judgement instead of you flipping the entire bill for their due diligence.  In short, they practice sound medicine and don't force you to pay for a bunch of useless tests so they can find the answer by trial and error.  10 out of 10.Value:  The thing I appreciate the most about them is that the do take into consideration the cost of animal health care when developing solutions.  The fact the ouline all the options and applicable costs makes me feel that they care about the well being of my cats and my pocketbook.  8 out of 10.Customer Service:  Friendly, compassionate, thoughtful, and professional.  10 out of 10.Overall:  There is no one else in the valley I would trust more with my cats than Dr. Elliot.  I highly recommend using them! 28 out of 30, 5 stars. Dr. Elliot is actually what made this place get four stars.Last week (10/16/12) my wife woke me up around 2:30 pm (I work nights) saying something was wrong with our 14 year old cat Griffon.  We decided it was time to let Griffon go and be out of pain.  We called this vet and got an appointment with in a hour.We got there and the place was pretty full.  We did not get sent back to the room till about 4 pm.  (which was the same room we had my wife's dog Pepper put to sleep in last year, it was not a good experience.)  We wanted to have a line put in and have Griff sedated.  Dr Elliot came and talked to us, and said for cats she usually does not do lines and sedation due to their small viens (it was a bladder problem, so I also assume my cat was dehydrated which does not help with inserting lines).  My wife got upset, but in the end we were able to decide on no line and just a needle with the solution in it.  Before we that, they took her and weighed her and brought Griffon back.  By this time Griff seemed relaxed and was purring.  They gave us some time alone with her, and she purred the whole time.  It is like she knew we were letting her out of her pain, she was at ease.  Dr Elliot came in and with the vet tech they put Griff on one side, and Dr Elliot tried her hind leg but Griff moved and she was not able to get the solution injected.  They gave us a few more minutes and came back and tried again.  (now Griff hated to be held so there was protests but nothing major). This time my wife petted her head, the vet tech held her by the scruff and I pinned Griff's body down and her front paw and Dr Elliot held her back feet.  The procedure was done in less than a minute.  Griff passed very fast with only talking, no protests.  She was purring till the end.Dr Elliot was compassionate and caring.  You can tell she does this because she truly loves animals.  If we should have any need of a vet while we still live in this area, we will be calling and asking for Dr Elliot. NOTE: This review is for dog boarding only.I took my miniature dachshund here on a whim. I had actually called Ahwatukee Animal Hospital but they were booked for the weekend, so they recommended Ahwatukee Commons to board my puppy.Long story short, it was an affordable, nice experience. The price wasn't too bad (though I've used cheaper) and everyone was friendly enough. My *only* almost complaint was the woman behind the counter was in training, but it seemed as though her coworker was helping with every little thing. Her coworkers and the vet's assistance who took me back with my puppy seemed incredibly knowledgeable and affirmed my confidence in leaving my puppy in their hands for the weekend. Hopefully the training isn't too grueling or take much longer for the new hire! When I picked up my puppy he seemed no worse for wear (aside from a raw nose from the kennel bars). They also give you a "Kennel Camper Card", which is pretty cute, and includes some arbitrary information about your pup's stay.I'll definitely consider using their boarding or veterinary services in the future.

You earn money back on what you spend at the vet and get two free checks up per year.

Read Less

I have had my pets seen by both vets and they are equally wonderful and caring. The staff here are also amazing and very caring. The best and only place I would take my pets!
