Today a 3 week old kitten fell off my roof during a monsoon storm, dirty and covered in fleas. I called CPAH and they got us in within an hour and a half! The staff was very friendly and made my anxious self feel calm and at ease. They examined him and cleaned him all up and he's looking so much better already! I lost my favorite Umbrella Cockatoo back on Oct. 3rd. It's hard to believe that my Little Man Kylie is no longer with me. I regret taking him to the vet that on that evening to help with with an injury to his claw. So with that intro...Fast forward to two weeks  ago...My Little Girl, Ella, an Umbrella Cockatoo as well, was still wheezing after two days so I decided to take her to a vet. Because of Kylie, I was so scared to take her anywhere. I called and spoke to Paula, the receptionist. She informed me that this clinic does not take care of birds. As busy as she was, Paula took the time to look up the name of an Avian vet that the hospital recommended. She gave me the name of the vet where I took Ella. I walked in without an appointment after my new puppy spent all night hacking. On the website it clearly states they take walk ins. After explaining his symptoms I was told "well it will be a while" in a snarky tone. I then preceded to say I believe he may have kennel cough. Central Phoenix Animal Hosp. has been my vet for many years and several of my neighbors also have gone there for years. I have three german shepherds and never consider taking them anywhere else. small place, smaller than a small studio apt...have to carry your pets around. when you call, get ready to be placed on hold...i just called to try and set up an appt...i go once a year at the most for shots; always a problem. Dr. Ruiz seems nice, but the other doc that comes in is rude and should not be in the business working with animals. So today i switched up to an animal hospital on 7th ave. We have had out pets under Dr. Ruiz's care for about 15 years. Her and her staff are always very kind and caring upon every visit. When we had to have our 17-year old cat euthanized, she was very compasionate and didn't even charge us. Our 16-year old border collie is doing well under her advice and care for his arthritis and age-related issues. We feel her staff (for the most part) enjoys working there, and it shows in the way we always feel welcome once we're in the door. The only thing we wish was better was the parking lot - it only has room for a few cars at a time, so it makes it tough getting in and out if you or other people are not there at your appointed times. I started taking my puppy to Central Phx Animal Hosp. because it's right near my work. I love that they are even open on Saturdays! It makes things really convenient. Dr. Ruiz is very intuitive with animals and I love to see her interact with my dog. She listens to me well and the people in the office are very thorough and helpful. They weren't very good at handling people. The nurse made jokes about me being upset (I wasn't crying, I was just obviously concerned and asking questions). I didn't feel overly comfortable with my animal being left behind closed doors with them for a length of time. They took bl00d without asking me and did so behind closed doors. I'm no obnoxious cry baby...I give my animals their shots myself. I'd just prefer if they were going to stick him with needles that I be there...just like he's my kid. They were rather insensitive.
