Deer Creek Animal Hospital

Phoenix, Arizona
General Info
Deer Creek Animal Hospital delivers pet care services across Phoenix and Arizona that emphasize emotional connection and joint responsibility between veterinary professionals and pet owners. Felines often require indirect eye contact as a prerequisite to permit an examination. Dogs might need elongated step transitions combined with authorization to investigate the tools through sniffing. The clinic’s approach is species-specific and emotionally responsive—avoiding overstimulation and adjusting for tolerance thresholds. The process treats owners as complete partners throughout its stages. Veterinary professionals utilize observations of pet home behavior including post-storm actions sleeping patterns and reactions to new textures as clinical data. Deer Creek Animal Hospital delivers medical assistance through preventive planning and diagnostic services alongside internal medicine, nutritional guidance, dental care, and senior pet wellness programs for multiple species. Each procedure's timing is meticulously synchronized with the animal’s capacity to maintain calmness and presence. Certain pets experience diagnostic procedures distributed over multiple visits combined with anxiety-reduction preparation plans. Exotic pets receive customized handling strategies to prevent stress-related complications. Families receive signal-based post-care suggestions after appointments which include methods to monitor pain expression and determine overstimulation from sound or activity as well as timing for resuming normal interactions. Every treatment plan incorporates a timing sequence which dictates periods to pause moments to interact and intervals to reassess. Deer Creek Animal Hospital delivers veterinary care to Phoenix pets and their families along with those in nearby Arizona regions by tuning into each patient's distinct stress signals physical language and timing needs through an emotional compass.

Deer Creek Hospital has been our vet for 10 years or more. They have been there for us thru sad times when I had to put my Sal kitty down who was 9 years old.It was such a hard and sad thing I've ever had to do. They have also been there for us when we had to board our 3 dogs a Queensland Heeler, Australian Shephard, and a Corgie/ Heeler mix there because of a floid that we had in our house. They were so caring and good to them. We did however loose our Queensland Heeler Yodi from old age and natural causes. The staff felt the pain we felt too for the loss of our dear family memember and was very compassionate and caring. They havr always been our good to Vetenarian clinic for,our now 2 dogs and kitty Nala. They are a great bunch of people. We are moving out of state and will miss them and their caring staff. I have taken my dogs here a few times for boarding and a couple years back one of their staff closed a door on one of my dogs tails splitting it open. For some reason decided to give them another chance. I boarded my Labs here for the Memorial Day weekend. When I picked them up today they were soaking wet and their bellies were covered in mud. Now my car and my clothes are covered in mud. There was no effort on the staff's part to clean them or even dry them a little. I went back inside to asked them why the dogs were wet and muddy and I was told "Sorry, you should have scheduled them for baths before you picked them up" and "next time be sure to schedule them to have a bath". I still have no idea why they were soaked and muddy. My reply to the reply from Lisa at Deer Creek... Lisa it seems you may have training issue with your staff. All I asked was why my dogs were soaking wet and muddy. You and your staff keep bringing up this bath issue so since you feel it’s my fault that my dogs were dripping wet and muddy when I picked them up I will expand upon my experience. When I brought my dogs in on Thursday your staff member asked many question about how I would like my dogs cared for. He was kind and seemed knowledgeable. He asked if I wanted premium or standard boarding and if I wanted to pay a little for treats. Then he mentioned that dogs got a free bath for three nights but since I was boarding for five nights I would be charged an additional fee for the baths. I asked him why that if I’m paying more money for more nights why would I have to pay extra for a bath. He said that’s the policy. I remember telling him that sounded like the dumbest thing I’d heard of. He asked me again if I was sure I didn’t want to pay extra for the baths and then showed where to initial to refuse the baths. I agree that I checked no bath because your staff told me it was an additional charge. When I picked up my dogs I knew they would not have had a bath but I did not expect them to be covered in mud and soaked. Read Less

All of my rescues, for at least the past 10 years, have been patients here. They always squeeze us in, usually same day, when I call because someone is ill. Yesterday I brought my senior kitty Bogie for an upper respiratory issue. I had called on Friday afternoon, we were seen Saturday afternoon. Bogie was extremely frightened and Eric, the vet tech assigned to him, was extremely patient and understanding. He even managed to clean Bogie's ears down on the floor, because wedged beteeen the wall and a screen leaning against it is where B felt safest. The vet was also great with him, as always. Read Less

I’ve been taking my puppy to deer creek 3 times a week, since he was 10 weeks old and I can guarantee that DCAH is his favorite place to be. When I get ready in the morning, he sits by the door and waits for me to leave to take him to daycare. When we turn on rose garden he starts to get antsy and gets way too excited, and if I don’t get out of the car fast enough when we get in the parking lot he’ll bark in my face to tell me it’s time to get out of the car. What I love the most is that when I walk in with Toast, I have at least three employees say hello and good morning to him ( to me too, but him first 😉) He is so clearly loved and taken care of, there’s no where else I could imagine taking him. After running around and playing with his friends all day, he comes home absolutely exhausted and happy. Not to mention, that anytime he’s had anything medically wrong with him (or I panic over something that’s actually nothing) the technicians are so quick to ease my mind and make me comfortable with whatever treatment plan they chose to do. Deer Creek is like family and I couldn’t rate them any higher and speak any higher of them! Read Less

Our groomer Jen is excellent and knew exactly how to cut our somewhat unusual dog. The space they have set aside for day care is huge and a great opportunity for our dog to run and play with others, and it's very reassuring to drop your dog off for day care knowing your vet is on site if there are ever any problems. The veterinarian's gave us time to stay with her before during and after the procedure, they really made sure that so he was comfortable. A week and a half ago I took my dog to you..Not only did you give an incorrect diagnosis but you misinformed us on how to take care of her. You told us to continue feeding her and give her water even though she hadn't pooped or peed for 3 days. Because of that, she died this morning because she drowned in the food YOU advised us to give her. She did begin to get better until YOU told us to double her medicine, food and water. She died too young and she suffered. Her mother lived to be 22. She died at 10. And not only did she suffer but we had to sit here and watch it happen. She was my first dog. She was always healthy and active and happy. She was incredibly smart and overall just my best friend. Then in the course of 10 days she became skin and bones , blind, unable to move and many other disturbing things happened to my poor dog. She didn't deserve to go through what she did. I trusted this hospital because I saw all the great reviews. I will never come to you again nor will I ever recommend you to anyone. Read Less

These folks are cheerful, highly responsive, and sensitive. Though I don't see her much, Dr. Higgins is outstanding. Dr. Rice has also been great. I also take my dogs there for grooming. I have been very satisfied with the service, though I think it is pricey for two small dogs who are well kept! It would be nice to see discounts for loyal customers! In addition, I typically don't get to see the groomer when I pick them up, so any dissatisfaction or correction can't be adequately addressed. Though I have liked the service, I had my dogs groomed two weeks ago and it wasn't exactly what I wanted; however, the groomer was not there. Read Less

This is the very BEST place to take your dog! I have two Yorkies, both rescues, and Dr. Grant has done a wonderful job with them...my little girl was very sick with digestive issues when I adopted her, and Dr. Grant figured out what was wrong with her (allergy to chicken). And, he doesn't over react with both my senior dogs...makes them feel good about going there and me too. Also, they let my older boy mingle with the other day care dogs around the reception area (they cannot get out) and he loves that!!! He also attends Happy Hour and play time outside in a secure and well supervised area. My little girl boards in the hospital area because after 10 years in a puppy mill, she cannot handle the noise of barking and it's quiet in there. She stays in a large room with a glass door, no cage! I just love this place!! and never feel horrible about leaving my 'babies' with them. Also, they are affordable with their prices. Deer Creek Animal Hospital has the most wonderful Doctors and Staff. My experience was nothing but the best. I had only been with them for the past year but the experience was nothing but top notch. Unfortunately my Beautiful Beagle "Star" has passed away but the support and love I received from the Dr. Baker, Dr. Rice, Olivia (tech) and the staff was beyond any expectations I had. They were always there with advise to all my questions and always got her into the office right away. Dr. Baker called me one evening and we talked about Star and her treatment for over an hour.. They treated my dog like she was one of their own children and that meant the world to me. Before Star passed I was going to board her there as we had a planned trip; the staff took me on a tour and to see all the dogs that were there happy and playing outside just made me so happy. I just knew I could leave and she would be in good hands. When Star passed, they sent me the most beautiful flowers and just confirmed how much they cared. After relocating from the east coast, I found Deer Creek Animal Hospital via referral from a friend who had taken her two dogs there when she lived near their office. From the start, I've been pleased with both the veterinary care and the grooming services. The prices are reasonable, the vets and techs take their time in speaking with you, there doesn't seem to be a huge effort to "upsell" as I experienced a lot in the Washington, D.C. area, and they always call to follow up after any medical-related visit. Initially, I was taking only my then 14-year-old Lab/Shepherd mix to their office for check-ups, but then I got a Labradoodle puppy in July 2015. He turned out to have a nasty parasite that traveled to my older dog and Deer Creek Animal Hospital did a great job of diagnosing the issue quickly and prescribing medication to rid both dogs of the parasite. They always listened to my concerns and thoroughly answered all my questions. Over the course of the last two months, I've also begun using their daycare services 4-5 days/week for my younger dog (a now almost 1-year-old Labradoodle). To me, the real testament regarding the way the dogs are handled for daycare is the fact that my dog practically drags me through the side door each morning when I drop him off. If he wasn't being cared for properly or was suffering in harsh conditions as some have alluded to in their reviews, I sincerely doubt he'd be so anxious to be dropped off each morning. I've also spoken with many other customers there who regularly use Deer Creek for daycare and have been very pleased with their services. Recently, I toured a portion of the facility as I will need to board my Labradoodle for ~ a week. While there was understandably a lot of noise in the cage area (dogs obviously get excited when someone new is strolling through their territory), I found both the boarding areas and outdoor daycare areas to be very clean. While I hate to leave my pup for any amount of time, I feel better all day knowing he's in the hands of people who all know his name (and have a little fun with his unfortunate first name/last name combination, often calling him "Hah-pa Pah-ka" - Harper Parker with a Boston accent) and seem genuinely happy to see him each morning. In the one instance where there was an incident at daycare (Harper was a bit of a klutz and turned his head too quickly away from another dog, smacking his nose into the side of the building), they called me promptly to notify me of the occurrence and then talked to me and patiently answered my "worried mom" questions when I arrived to pick him up. Without hesitation, I would recommend Deer Creek Animal Hospital for veterinary care, grooming, daycare and boarding services. Read Less

I have been a huge fan of Dr Higgins for many years and always boarded our Cavaliers with the staff to include dog daycare when out of town. We have a new dog now. Thinking the daycare was the same, I quickly became uneasy when all the dogs were out in small enclosures without "a controlled environment" as supervised. We saw only one staff for about 50-60 dogs. Dogs were grouped based on size and whether they had been neutered or were too aggressive to play with others. I left my dog there for 3 hours. She seemed alright but drank 2 full bowls of water immediately when she got home. I called back to express my concerns, but still was not feeling my dog was safe there. I checked out Camp Bow Wow. Great place and and a free phone app allows you to see your dog anytime. They play inside with techs 1:20 ratio. All dogs must take a 15 minute exam to see if their behavior is suitable to play with others and you must leave them there 3 hours thereafter to be supervised. It is free. The daycare price is similar but they have extended times available. Also, they insist that if they feed your dog they must rest a time after eating. They have open areas outside so the dogs may go out freely (unlike Deer Creek) to relieve themselves instead of dogs walking around in other dogs doodoo. Although there were 5 or 6 dogs inside being supervised at Deer Creek, the hospital appears not to be equipped to have all these dogs in air conditioning. My dog is not acclimated to 100+ degrees outside mister, shade, awning or not. Dr Higgins is expanding her business to include selling eggs, honey and goat yogurt. Per staff she comes to the hospital twice a week. I congratulate her on being a new entrepreneur but feel the hospital daycare is substandard now. Her pamphlet advertises behavior issues addressed with daycare. That is false and misleading. It may be creating issues. Please research it yourself if you care about your dog. The staff are very nice and helpful as always. I would have given it 0 stars. My score reflects the daycare portion only. I hope things improve after my review. I feel for all those dogs in the heat walking around in dirt and doodoo and need someone to speak for them. I wish Dr Higgins the best, you are a great vet and hope you attend to this matter. I have always loved the care Dr Higgins provided for my dogs over the years. I moved recently and returned with our new dog. Sadly, daycare was a horrible experience for me and my dog. 50-60 dogs were in enclosures outside, with dogs of all sizes walking in dirt and their excrement. My dog was not acclimated to this heat. Shade awnings and misters are not enough. I saw only one person supervising and interacting with the dogs. My rating is for dog daycare only. I cannot recommend daycare. Staff are always nice and easy to talk with. This rating is not of them. Read Less

I take my dog MoMo to daycare at Deer Creek, every time i take him there he starts getting overly excited when we are about a mile away just from know the surrounding area and lets us know to drive faster because he wants to get started on his dog shenanigans with his dog friends. Not only has he made countless furry friends from pictures i have seen, but the staff at Deer Creek knows him by name and they are kind and thoughtful enough to let him sleep on a giant pillow bed once my old pooch has tuckered out from too much fun. There is no one I would trust with my four legged family other than the phenomenal vets and staff at Deer Creek Animal Hospital!!! They not only offered the best medical care and advice when my sweet Sam was overtaken with an aggressive cancer yet they also stood by my side and helped me mentally and emotionally through the process of treating her and eventually letting her go. I was amazed at how truly caring and professional each and every person I encountered at the hospital was and I am grateful that I found a home for my animals as that is how they make you feel.... like you are at home!!! I brought both of my blue nose Pits in due to skin problems. The doctor pushed pills. I changed the food from chicken to fish by suggestion of a former breeder and the skin problem went away. I then brought them back in again for a completely different skin problem between their toes and again pills were pushed. I was given a week of antibiotics a small when this didn't work they suggested a month of antibiotics. Here we are the antibiotics are finished and yet again my pit Bulls rash is still not gone aND I'm expected to pay again for an exam to find out why the Doctors orders didn't work. I can't seem to figure out why I am responsible for paying for this companies research and the detrimental effects that taking antibiotics for such a long Stent can have on their immune system in the future. This is by far the worst animal hospital I have been to and their lack of respect and communication is astounding. I will never return here again and I hope that anyone with a serious issue never brings their dog in. They are parrots. They use the same treatment for every issue for every breed. Oh and so I do not get the same emotional response as Thomas did below. I'll give the same review all of the previous 5 stars gave. The front desk staff is great. They saw me right away and took care of us and love the dogs. The Vet and the upper management are the issue. They are disrespectful, and refuse to take responsibility for their actions. Read Less

This animal hospital is exactly the vet you don't want.. They throw antibiotics and benadryl as the first treatment. They use travel vets, so they could be different every time. and also mediocre vets because they can't find a spot to make there own practice. The small amount that stay there are horrible. They missed sores between my dogs toes and rashes on back when doing there "check". When I call frustrated that the second two week antibiotic treatment with 150mg a day of Benadryl wasn't working, they attempt to make me sound like I'm "screaming" (Lyndsey, dishonest tech) without her knowledge (legal), I recorded everything. I made an attempt to ask for the real business side of things to contact me.. So I could show the unproffesional service of Lyndsey and my charts to them... it took a one star review on Google for her to call me in a week. I asked if she was a partner in the organization. She attempted to make fun of me saying we don't have partners in a corporation.. As if I don't own three entities lol So I said then what is your officer position. She says practice manager.... lol so I said you are not an officer your a manager. She said I could call her the chief of operations... NO I CAN'T. That's not our positionnnnn Angelaaaaa. An attempt to question my knowledge does not make peace or change a one star review but I wouldn't expect anything less from a manager. Over 3 months of my dog suffering because you people just throw antibiotics to cover symptoms because you won't take the time to actually diagnose like a real doctor. After of course you tell us we should do over 500 dollars in tests that will all be a waste. These people are a scam. No different from the typical lazy vet that is interested in money.... but then again it might be the structure that "corporation" has set forth.. can't wait for "owners reply" or practice manager ha ohhhh and when you do reply from your computer in your hole, try to be professional and not use my last name on the Internet like you've done to your other reviewers. THE WORST BOARDING PLACE, ever. ANIMAL ABUSE. BEWARE. We boarded our dog here, about a year ago. He was two at the time.Previous to leaving him for a few days with Deer Creek Animal Hospital, he was the best dog. Only barked when there was danger, and would sit as told, and would snuggle up with us. When we came to pick him up, we knew something was off. It's now been a full year of working through his problems, and he still isn't the same. When we got him back, he had CUTS and BRUISES all over his body, He would cower if a voice was raised even a little. Men particularly frightened him, especially those with hats. He would get so scared he would even urinate on himself. It has been horrible to watch.Absolutely NONE of this happened (or even signs of it) previous to boarding him here. We were so surprised because when we arrived there before our trip, everyone was so nice. People were polite and even gave our dog a treat. It was all so fake...Since this experience, we have privately boarded our dog and he hasn't had a problem, though he is still recovering. If you love your animal, stay away, PLEASE. Do not let them beat and abuse your animal as they did ours. (I am the owner of 2 dogs, and one cat. I am a 7 year vegetarian, and I frequently volunteer with the Humane Society. I definitely know abuse when I see it.) Read Less

I have friends that have worked for this Animal Hospital and I have been told very disturbing things about their care of pets that are boarded, groomed, and cared for in the hospital. Their employee turnover is unbelieveable and there are always new faces not ones that have been there for years which says a lot. I have been told the Dr's are very good, it's the other employees that care for your pets who are typically between the ages of 18 & 25 and are there strictly for the job not for their love & compassion for animals and they are the ones responsible for most the care of your pets. Dogs have escaped the property and have been running out on Rose Garden Lane, pets have died in their care, and boarded pets DO NOT get the care you are promised. The personal items you bring for your boarded pets comfort are never given to your pet, they are put in a closet and left there until you come to pick up your pet. There are of course always a few exceptions as far as the employees go but I would never leave my pets there or any other boarding facility as this is generally the norm for the type of care your pet receives. I have statrted using My Little Friends Pet Sitting when going away and I'm extremely happy with the care my babies receive. They don't even act like I was gone, they are very relaxed and seem very happy and not stressed in any way. If you love your pets like family be very careful where you leave them and who will be caring for them. It's always better for your pet if they can be cared for in their own home. Read Less

I have never received vet care that is as caring and compassionate as what we have found at Deer Creek. Recently, we had to make the decision to euthanize our beloved 14 y.o. Lab. We were greeted at the door by two vet techs we know and love, who escorted us directly into a waiting room so we could deal with our grief privately. Dr. Higgins was amazing with us and our three children, and of course, our sweet dog Leo. The next week, we received Leo's paw print set in clay as our gift from DCAH and a card signed with personal notes by the entire staff. We found DCAH shortly after we moved to Phoenix last year. Besides being kind and knowledgeable, they also have a great pet rescue program! We adopted a sweet and silly Bernese Mountain Dog named Captain who has been an "angel with fur" to our family. Brought my hamster to Dr. Higgins today. Hamster had a strange growth on ear. Dr. said it ""might be an abcess"" because it looked infected. Left the room to lance the hamster's growth. Brought hammie back bleeding and weak. Said the growth was hard, probably cancerous. Said she couldn't take the growth off because it would be too difficult to sew up after cutting it off. Said to go home and good luck. Charged me $46.00 for the visit. No antibiotics or follow-up treatment instructions were ever given. I asked to speak to the Dr. again because she left the room so abruptly and I was unsure what to do at that point. A technician came back and said they did not treat the hamster's lanced ear to stop the bleeding because ""she bites"". I feel like I got nowhere but charged $46.00 to harm my hamster further and get no specific or helpful information than what I had already suspected. My advice for your small or exotic pets would be to take them to an ""exotic"" pet specialist. DO NOT BRING THEM HERE! I will be calling a specialist right away to seek further medical advice. Deer Creek Animal Hospital

Phoenix Arizona 85050

Read Less

The veterinarian's gave us time to stay with her before during and after the procedure, they really made sure that so he was comfortable. She had a fan unlimited dog treats and water and we could even bring in our own meal for her. It was some of the best care that we received for a fantastic price. Read Less

Read Less

My dogs come back from boarding absolutely exhausted and sleep for days which I love! Deer Creek isn't very close to where I live but it's worth the drive. Over the years I've used Deer Creek for; prescription food, neutering, dental cleaning, when my cat couldn't keep food down for days, and most recently when my Shepsky had a possible eye infection. Deer Creek is by far the best and I always recommend them to people. Read Less

I appreciated the staff taking time to make my cat comfortable. Dr. Rice was able to read my cat's tense body language. They helped him relax by approaching him at his eye level, petting him, and gently talking to him until he clearly relaxed. Only when my cat appeared comfortable did they proceed with his exam. I've taken my pets to DCAH for almost 20 years! There has recently (over the last 1+ years) been a change of supportive staff and front desk staff. Read Less

Deer Creek Animal Hospital has been superb in their care and treatment for him. The staff is always so friendly and accommodating. We wouldn't think of taking our dogs to any other facility. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DEER CREEK ANIMAL HOSPITAL, and the Vets, and the employees! Read Less

When it's time to adopt another fur-baby I know where I will be going for his/her veterinarian care. Thank you everyone at Deer Creek for all the love... xoRead Less

Read Less
