We took our cat Butter to Animal Medical & Surgical on the recommendation of a friend, who took both of her dogs there during emergencies. We have never had such an amazing experience with a vet. Our cat had this rapidly growing mass on her neck and it started to impact her breathing. After getting her stabilized, they fit us in for surgery to remove the mass. I appreciated that they were cost conscious and noted that there were a bunch of other tests we could do if we wanted, but that they didn't think they were needed. Dr. Jha went above and beyond, called us at each step, and provided compassionate care. So glad we ended up taking our pet there! Read Less

Our dog was having trouble breathing. Took her to ER. They were friendly and helpful and did full array of tests. Disappointing when we called a week later and they couldn’t find valley fever test results. After paying $1,000 the person answering phone says I don’t know if test results are back so if you don’t hear from us tomorrow why don’t you call us. Veterinarian and technician night we went in were great but no follow-up for additional test results is very disappointing. The person who answered phone seemed like she could care less. Didn’t even ask how our dog was. Guess that’s how it is nowadays. Once they get money that’s it...... Read Less

About 2:30 AM a couple of weeks ago, Eddie (our little Parson Russell Terrier) was attacked in our back yard by a coyote. We were shocked and scared to death and at a total loss of where to turn, so we 'Googled' vets near us and luckily came across Animal Medical & Surgical Center. Shortly after 3:00 in the morning, the staff welcomed us with open arms as they immediately went to work on Eddie, who had suffered nearly a dozen puncture wounds from the attack. He was kept over night for observation, and it was determined that he required surgery to make sure his little lungs were not punctured. I am so happy to report that here we are, only 2 weeks or so later, and Eddie is home & feeling better every day. We are absolutely thrilled with the quality of the care and the dignity and respect shown to us and our little family member. Dr.'s Jha, Sontineni, and Corona provided the finest care we've ever experienced, causing us to refer to their facility as the 'Mayo Clinic for Pet Care'. We can't thank them enough, and would highly recommend their services to anyone needing quality pet care. Sincerely, Greg & Nettie Desert Ridge area Read Less

Horrific! Take advantage of people and their pets in distress. I took my six-year-old Bichon there because he was vomiting. $100 office visit fine, the quack doctor after briefly inspecting the dog said that he was going to order X-rays and blood work at the tune of $822. I thought that was insane and so therefore asked questions and took my dog somewhere else. Called everybody else in town and everybody else in town was $250 or less for the exact same work. Needless to say I will never come back to this place. They take advantage of people and their emotions with their pets when they are sick. In the past we have gone to a different emergency veterinary clinic where I think the Vet did not even like dogs and the facility did not seem very clean. Also, it would take hours to just be seen by a Vet who then wanted to run every type of test possible. At AMSC we were in the Exam room before I could even finish filing out the paperwork and say the Vet within 10-15 minutes of arriving. The cost of the exam plus meds for our dog was very reasonable. The doctor and staff were friendly and professional. The facility is new and clean. While you hope not to have emergencies, I highly recommend AMSC. Read Less

My vet referred me to AMSC for an overnight stay since mine is not 24/7. While I appreciate the overnight care, I found the bill excessive. $699 for an overnight. My vet told me the next day he was dissapointed because they did not follow his instructions, thus extended the normal vet care longer in the following days, costing me even more. Had the doctor followed my doctors instructions fully, it would be easier to handle. But to know instructions were not followed made me quite unhappy & very disappointing. A huge waste, when all I got was a one hour and twenty minute sales pitch. I made it very clear when I went in that my little girl Serene (dog) was not a candidate for an MRI, and that I wanted as little done with her as possible. any stressful event triggers a seizure. I went there because their website boasts that they have a new CT scan that shows cancer, injuries, dental disease and nasal disease and all in 18 minutes. Wow! So I saw Dr. Mundschenk (who missed her calling, seriously, a used car lot needs your skills). after being there over an hour Mundschenk told me that their CT scan does NOT show all those problems. What? I told her their website clearly states it does. No, she insisted that only an MRI would do that. I told her Serene will NOT have an MRI as I do not believe she would survive it (update for those who do not know a lot of sick dogs do NOT survive the hour long MRI procedure according to HONEST vets, of which my cousin is one, and a longtime friend in Fla. is another). She also said that even if Serene had just the CT scan (though apparently she thinks the CT scan is crap) she would also need dental x-rays. She argued that the good vets know the CT scan can't be used for dental. Oh, so why does your website actually boast that it can? Then she wanted more blood work. Serene has had her blood tested twice in the last month and every imaginable test on the books has been done. Yes, says Munschenk, but one month for a dog is like a LIFETIME for humans. Really? I don't know of any other vet who says that. usually, it's good for six months. I can see the words "kachink kachink" going on in her head. She refused to let me get the CT scan w/out the bloodwork and dental x-rays. So I left without doing anything. This was very hard on poor Serene as we drove an hour to get there, an hour back and were there for an hour and a half. I told Munschenk that they should have warned me on the phone that I would not be able to get a CT scan without jumping through hoops. It's deplorable that these heartless and soulless monsters pray on desperate pet parents. Read Less

We saw Dr. Wheeler when my service animal Littlefoot stomach filled with fluid. We found out that the meds that our regular vet and other hospitals in our area had him on severally damaged Littlefoot's liver. Every time our vet would try to change his meds to a lower risk med Littlefoot's health would get worse. When his stomach swelled we were sent to the Animal Medical Center. Dr. Wheeler pulled him off all his meds for valley fever and put him on a med that would not harm his liver any further but also control his seizures. Litllefoot was in the hospital over night and seem to be feeling better. He did end up coming back several times to have his stomach drained. Over the 4 months Dr. Wheeler held out hope that our Littlefoot would pull through. Unfortunately, Littlefoots' body was too damaged and just before Christmas he went blind and could hardly walk. At 3 years old we had to say goodbye to our precious little friend. Littlefoot was the best service animal I ever had! Although we will never know, if our vet would have referred us to this center sooner, would we still have Littlefoot today? We had tried several of the hospitals in our area with no true help for Littlefoot. Dr. Wheeler was the only Dr. that had a plan that probably would have worked if Littlefoot had seen him much sooner. We would recommend Dr. Wheeler if you have an animal suffering from valley fever. He thinks outside the box. All the others issue the same meds and hope for the best. Dr. Wheeler is very familar with other meds that will not cause the damage most vets rely on for this disease. We have since had Littlefoot's mom seen by Dr. Wheeler for her ear infections. She constantly gets ear infections ever time she comes off the ear meds our vet gives her. We had some blood work done and Daisy is very allergic to lots of things. We will be changing her food and we have ordered some custom drops for her to put on her tongue. Hopefully, Daisy will be feeling better soon. Read Less

I've been going to this practice since I moved to Scottsdale in 2011. Most of my visits have been with Dr. Ariano, and we have been very pleased with the care she has given our cats. While I was out of town on vacation recently, my cat sitter had to take the cat to the vet because of a possible problem with his seizure medicine. Dr. Ariano was out of town, so the cat was treated by Dr. Pullen. Dr. Pullen called me twice (before/after blood work) to discuss the options on adjusting the cat's medicine until I returned home. The bill included a normal vet charge, blood workup charges, and an additional $44 charge listed as "vet tech". When I called to inquire about this "vet tech" charge as I had never been charged anything like that in the past, I was told that because the vet had to spend extra time (because he called me on the phone), and because he had to write up discharge notes for my cat sitter, this extra charge was necessary. I've never heard anything more ridiculous! Since when does a vet charge extra for writing up discharge notes? Is there now a time limit on a visit? My cat sitter is a professional who owns pets, so it's not like he was talking to someone who didn't understand animals. I find it disappointing that it appears the vet is taking advantage of a pet owner being out of town. If I had not just been there the previous week where the cat had a complete check-up, it would be different. I will be reconsidering where we go in the future.Read Less

Animal Medical & Surgical Center is simply wonderful. From the front desk, doctors, vet techs, and boarding group they have a way that makes both the owner and the dog feel safe and at home. It's like 'Cheers' when you walk in the door, they call every pet by name. It's refreshing to be at a place that if I call to check on Bruin when he is being boarded, check on him after surgery, or to ask questions about his health care they are nothing but friendly and helpful. As fellow pet owners would know, our pets are our babies and Bruin is no different. Driving in from the West Side of the Valley to use them I pass many other clinics and boarding places but I would not even think about taking him elsewhere.

Extremely upset about this called the left my feedback personally. Go any place else other than this Read Less

To have a pet in critical care is hard enough. To not have cooperation of hired experts is not an additional stress a pet owner should have. Read Less
