Aztec Animal Hospital

My husband and I were going on vacation, and though I had other options (like our local vet), I took my dog to Aztec to board because they sent a mailer coupon for 4 days + 1 day free, in addition to a bath on the last day. The ladies who greeted us on the day of boarding were very nice. I tried to give one of the ladies the coupon but she insisted I keep it to use in the future for a free exam. However, I should have insisted they take the coupon because upon my return, we went back and forth over the price (she corrected it though) AND no bath was given. She forgot (which is completely understandable) because it wasn't "in the notes". If I had left the coupon, no notes would've been needed and I could've just taken the coupon back upon my return. Additionally, boarding charges are based on the dog's weight and I was charged for the upper weight class, yet when I went home and weighed my dog, I found her weight to be within the lowest priced weight range. It was only a 1 lb difference so I didn't bother to call Aztec and argue, but it would have been nice if my dog had been weighed upon boarding, not only for transparency purposes, but then I could be quoted a more accurate price. I brought my puppy in here with a pretty bad infection from a procedure done elsewhere. My puppy was not getting better after two follow ups with the previous place and so I looked for help here. My puppy was worked into the schedule that day and just in one follow up the vet and vet assistants deep cleaned the incision, gave me oral antibiotics, pain meds, and a ointment for a very cheap price. It has only been 4 days and my puppy is %100 times better! I could not be more thankful and will forever follow up with them with all my future pets. Highly recommend this place Read Less

8-19-2017 great experience.  Compassionate, knowledgeable, friendly and a kind manner.  Telephoned first for first time visit on a Saturday and was able to be seen within 45 minutes of calling-that's a great day.  Appropriate treatment was provided. Well equipped office and knowledgeable  Vet. My dog was seen for penile bleeding.  Fast accurate diagnosis and was able to immediately start treatment. Only the tests,lab and procedure necessary were done. There was no mention nor pressure for further labs or procedures unnecessary at the current time.  This helped in keeping my cost down.  Supportive information re: treatment was provided and we were able to obtain medication and supportive food at this facility.  This Vet office was recommended to me by an old neighbor who has used there service for many years and was very satisfied.  I feel comfortable and will be following up at this Vet..  In my opinion I would say costs were fair and reasonable. We were fortunate we were able to get a diagnosis on this visit.  My hope is our dog will improve without complications. Read Less

I've been bringing both of my pups here for a few months now after our new puppy became severely ill. The staff was so accommodating, initially my bill would have been through the roof, but the staff helped me chose a realistic plan that got my pup better and didn't break the bank, and suggested at home remedies to try instead. Now we're back with my older dog (9), she's warmed right up to the staff already, as they all are obvious dog lovers. If you're in the area I highly suggest giving them a try. Read Less

If I could rate a zero, I would. I came here for a simple check up on my dog and to check on his teeth because it looked like there was something stuck in his back gums. When I got there, the receptionist wasn't too friendly but everyone has their days . She didn't ask for my dog's medical history which I found weird. Figured that what they need to do didn't need anything that required his medical history. She took me back to the examination room and the vet came in and couldn't find the object in his gums. I had to point it out to them. Then they took my dog out of the room and I waited about ten minutes for them to come back in and tell me it'd cost over 200. Surprised, I didn't argue because my dog is worth it. About five minutes pass and the receptionist comes back to tell me my dog would wake from the anesthetics after ten minutes. I hadn't given permission for them to use anesthesia but just wanted my dog in my arms. I waited for a half hour before they told me to come back in a couple hours because he wasn't waking up. I asked if they had my number to call me and they said they did. They never called so I came in again and two hours later. My dog was awake and they gave me vague instructions on how he'd be after anesthesia. My dog still hasn't recovered fully because he has liver shunts. Had they known, they wouldn't have given him anesthesia because liver shunts mixed with anesthesia can be deadly. I'm watching my dog closely now but please don't take your dogs or cats here if you want service where they care about your family member.... Read Less

I have mixed feelings about my experience with AzTec. It was a very beautiful building. the staff was caring and compassionate. Dr. Flores was a nice man. I felt like they had all the state-of-the-art equipment a pet owner could ask for. the downside was, I brought a very sick dog there and was assured that she was healthy enough to have a surgery. I was concerned for her to have surgery because she was 16 years old. she did not survive the surgery. I had to pay a $2,200 vet bill and my baby died. the staff was great while I was beside myself in pain. I had my dog cremated, when I picked her ashes up they gave me a special clay paw print keepsake. I just wish we hadn't done the surgery. Read Less

My 13 year old dog developed a limp and had drop foot , took her to a vet I had used before and he watched her walk and pressed on her paw. Told me to not waste my money getting an Xray that she was old and had a good quality of life and was developing MS. Her condition for worse and took her here. I really tried to like this place. There are a lot of positives, but one big negative that keeps me from being able to go back here. Both the tech and the vet were very rough with my dog. The tech asked me to put my dog on the scale, he was easily distracted and stepped on the scale then quickly stepped off. The tech grabbed his leash and yanked him on to the scale without even asking me if it would be okay and she wasn't gentle either. Okay, so then my dog wasn't a big fan of her. I put him on the table, he immediately becomes anxious when she grabs him because she has almost no patience. The vet is the same way. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt the first time I brought my dog in. He asked me on the most recent visit if my dog acts like this at home. By this, he meant anxious and scared because my dog was obviously quite afraid of him. I told him no because my dog is perfectly fine around other people and strangers even when they hold him.I don't think they realize how rough they are and how upsetting it is for client or their pet. I took my pit bull here to get neutered and everything went just fine. Very friendly staff in spite of my dog barking non stop. I've been to other clinics and this is one of the best I've been to. The doctors seem to actually take the time and be gentle, which gives me a lot of reassurance. Also it seems very common to go places and have all these unnecessary tests and meds pushed on you which didn't happen here. I'm making a return visit soon.Read Less

We took our newly adopted puppy here for his check up and loved the office, this will be our vet for all our pets. They were caring, friendly, knowledgeable and not pushy. They gave us options but also told us they were not urgent. Dr Flores helped us identify severe hearing loss in our dog and then went over training options for him. I highly recommend them. I have been taking my dog (Female Boxer) to Aztec Animal Hospital for years. The Vet Techs' are always nice and very friendly with my dog. Dr. Florez did a great job working with us to figure out what my dog was allergic (Many foods and things in the environment). He always takes the time to explain everything in detail, as well as answering all my questions whenever I have them. I have nothing but positive feedback to share... THEY KILLED OUR PET WHEN BROUGHT IN FOR A ROUTINE NUETER PROCEDURE!!!!!!!! DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS INTO THIS CLINIC. OUR PET MADE IT THROUGH SURGERY AND THEN WENT BACK TO RECOVERY WHEN THEY SAID IT WOULD BE MONITORED CLOSELY, AND SOMEONE WILL BE IN THE ROOM WITH THE PETS AT ALL TIMES FOR PURPOSES ON IF THE ANIMALS WENT INTO SOME TYPE OF SHOCK. (THAT'S WHAT WE WERE TOLD).... COME TO FIND OUT THAT OUR ANIMAL DIED AND THE TECH WAS TO LATE TO FIND THE ANIMAL UNRESPONSIVE CAUSE SHE LEFT THE ROOM FOR A 15 MIN SMOKE BREAK. THEN THEY CHARGED US ALL SORTS OF MONEY TO GET OUR DECEASED ANIMAL BACK FROM THEM. The place looks nice from the outside. It's even nice and clean when you go in. But the attitude of the employees is nothing nice. I had to wait 15min up front before anyone came up front. During that 15min. I over heard two employees talking negative about there customers. Heard one getting mad at a dog. I wasn't about to let my dog stay there. I walked out that door so fast. Honestly I would give this place ZERO stars. I saw all the great reviews, made the appointment, very friendly woman at the front, nice inside facility but boy was I deceived. I got my 8 month old kitty spayed yesterday, when I went to pick her up she seemed to be okay. I had been instructed to start a medication called TUAL at 7pm, same day. My kitty had an allergic reaction to it an hour after I gave her the oral medication, now, I know all animals have their allergies BUT I ended up taking her to the EMERGENCY ANIMAL CLINIC because she had a small fever, her face was swelling up, these bright pink/red spots showed up on her face, and she was crying in pain. (today she is still slightly swollen in the face even better than the picture I had posted which was post treatment from the severe swelling)Got to the clinic, after they had injected her with steroids, fluids, etc and asked if I gave her any medications I was instructed to and sure enough, TUAL was guilty of nearly KILLING MY BABY!! The DOCTOR has never even heard of TUAL and was surprised I was given whatever TUAL is. Gave me only 2 pages of discharge instructions, NOT including the medication instructions/descriptions. VERY GENERAL discharge instructions. Also, apparently I owe $17 because she was already in heat, according to them, but they could be lying to me to squeeze more money out of me, I mean, an animal ER clinic/DOCTOR that has been around for years has never heard of TUAL.Long story short, save yourself from POSSIBLY HURTING YOUR FURRY FAMILY MEMBER AND a $400 ER hospital bill ALONG SIDE WASTING $80+ on a spay/neuter clinic that prescribes medications that other doctors have NEVER heard of!!!!!!!!!! I brought my puppy in after he developed Parvo.   We only had him for 4 days before he was in our arms dieing. We didn't know if we should spend the money or try to treat him from home. We went with Aztec since it was close to home.  The whole staff was amazing and did a great job. He was hospitalized for 2 days and made it out like a champ. There was no one at the front desk when I walked in. They were not informative and they wanted to do a test without telling me up front that it was a lot of money. They couldn't give a good reason for the test after I asked several questions. Couldn't explain clearly why our dog needed the test. They ended up realizing that the test wasn't needed after asking questions. Read Less

Love Aztec Animal Hospital! We have been taking our cat and two dogs there now for 3 years. They are so great to accomidate you and your pets, even during emergencies they have been wonderful. Not only did Dr. Florez help my dog out when she strained her back but noticed my boyfriend was walking funny and asked him what happend as he threw his back out that morning and he suggested a place right down the street for him to get some relief! We bring our cat every 3 months to get her nails trimmed and I just bring her in with no appt and it only takes 10 minutes door to door! The staff is so friendly and helpful whenever you call or go to the hospital. The facility is always so nice and clean which is always very important. I have reccommended this facility many times to friends and co-workers and will do so in the future. Read Less

I felt this office and Dr Florez deserved a stellar review to offset the one star review (that was petty and unfair) because he has treated all three of my dogs with care and compassion. I have never had a vet who personally calls me to check on my animals, and Dr. Florez does frequently. I credit him 100% for saving my small pup Ralphie after he came down with a case of Valley Fever that was so severe, (accompanied with secondary high fevers) that without Dr. Florez and his quick actions, we would have lost our beloved pup. The staff is also excellent. They are always asking about Ralphie and my other animals. I feel they are personally invested in the health and well-being of my animals. Dr. Florez is the kind of man who you can tell LOVES animals. He is always available by phone and will even drop what he is doing between patients to stop and talk. I cannot say enough about how much I TRUST this Vet and his staff. I am so glad we switched from SVC with our new clan after our older dogs passed. And for those who complain about cost of services: owning an animal is a responsibility. Things happen. If you cannot afford vet bills (which are pretty stable across metropolitan areas) then you have no business owning an animal. Thank you Dr. Florez and staff, for all you do! Read Less

After my dog started peeing all over our new apartment I knew it was time to get him  fixed. I looked around at low cost clinics and after reading the reviews I was terrified to take him to any of them. So I started calling vets and found the prices were way too high and I felt stuck. I found a clinic online called 101 spay and neuter clinic that would charge $89. I called and made an appointment and thats when they told me the procedure would take place at Aztec. My husband dropped my dog off this morning (alone, I worked until past midnight and was still sleeping) and when he dropped our dog off they suggested a blood screening to make sure the neuter would be okay. Which, at first I was completely for even at $40 extra, I love my dog and wanted to make sure he would be okay. When they called at around 1pm (we dropped him off around 730am) to tell me he had an ear infection and it would be another $30 dollars for the medicine, which again was fine, whatever he needs to be fine. When I went to get him it was clean inside and didn't smell like vets normally do, the receptionist quickly asked me what I needed and when I without thinking said "I'm here to pick up my baby!" She snapped back and said "who is your baby?" With a bad attitude. As soon as I told her his name she immediately told me how much it would be (over $170 for everything) and put her hand out. She was rude and made me feel like I was bothering her. The vet tech that actually talked to me in the room was super helpful and answered all the questions I had. He was kind of loopy and still hasn't figured out how to walk around with the cone on but overall he seems fine. The only real complaints I have are the up charges, the rude front desk woman, and the fact that I couldn't meet the doctor because he was "on the phone". Although I don't know if I would take him there regularly because I would like a little bit more of a relationship with my vet, I would recommend going to get your pet fixed. Although its a little more expensive, it beats going to cheap route and your pet ending up with infection or worse! Read Less

This is the third time we have been to Aztec Animal Hospital and I can feel confident in writing a good review for them. All three times the staff has been friendly and professional. They remembered our kitten's name (we brought him in for ringworm) and they even made a follow up call to check in to see how he was doing. We brought him back a week later because the medicated shampoo didn't seem to be stopping the progression of the infection. They were able to make the appointment the same day we called and even comped the visit as a courtesy. The rooms are sleek and clean. There are educational pamphlets everywhere. I have high maintenance bulldogs and things always come up.  The vet I used normally was out of town and one of my dogs needed medical attention.  I consider myself very knowledgeable about my breed and I have used many Vets in the past.  Dr. Florez was very patient and knowledgeable.  He was able to treat the problem we came in for and point out a few tips on how to treat other issues I hadn't even considered.  The staff was very warm and friendly.  The office is beautiful and very well taken care of.  My bill was 50.00 less than it would have been with my other vet and I left with more knowledge.  I also took a look at their boarding.  I'm so impressed.  I will definitely be back.  Thank you everyone for taking such good care of my baby! The first thing you'll notice is the large cast iron doors, once you get your bill you'll realize how they can afford it.They will charge you outrageous amounts of money for unnecessary treatments ($15 urine collection fee? We could have got it ourselves for free!). After treating our dog they said we needed to feed him wet food, to which we asked what brand we should get. They gave us 4 cans of the stuff we had on hand, we were thankful until we got home and saw they charged us $2 per can.Don't come here if you can help it, and if you do, hold on to your wallet.The nurses (is that what they are called? The vet's assistants) are really friendly and nice, that's the only positive thing we have to say. Read Less

aztec staff and dr are wonderful my pet was ill so i took her there and they treated her as if she were their own she wasn't nervous or scared at all and they were so kind as to call me the next day to see how she was doing and if she was taking her medication well after 2 weeks oof treating her she is doing great i am hooked they have my business Read Less

Come in to visit our new location on 82nd place and McDowell just East of Hayden. the new location offers great space and lots of more services for you and your pets. We also added more boarding suites to have your pets in a very comfortable environment for this summer month.
