This review is for both Quartz Mountain Animal Hospital and Aztec Animal Hospital as our experiences at both locations were the same. Our pet’s care began at the first facility, and she was transferred to the second facility for continuation of care. I will start by saying we feel very fortunate and blessed to have our little dog alive and well today! She had gotten very ill and required significant abdominal surgery due to a small intestine obstruction. We were given a quote from an urgent care facility for close to $7,000! Obviously, there was no way we could afford this! We were advised our only other option was to bring our dog home and wait and see. She became more and more ill. We ultimately began calling other facilities requesting price quotes and asking about levels of expertise in caring for her problem. All price quotes continued to be very expensive. When we called Quartz Mountain, we were given a price quote that was less than 25% of the initial price quote. To our astonishment, Dr. Florez said he could see our dog that day, and if she needed surgery, he could do it during his lunch break. We were amazed, and this is exactly what happened! Ultimately, her condition was significantly worse than any of us had anticipated. She ended up requiring a second surgery and had well over 50% of her small intestine removed due to chronic illness. It took her a while to bounce back, and she also had an endoscopic procedure. She was hospitalized for over a week. Dr. Florez called us at least once daily to give us an update and responded promptly to emails. I was so very impressed! Due to the level of extensive care our dog needed, the cost was more than we had initially been informed due to the second surgery, lengthy hospitalization, and endoscopy procedure, but we were kept apprised of the cost along the way. The total cost was still less than 50% of what we were initially given by another facility. I am 100% confident our dog would not be alive today if it were not for the expert care of Dr. Florez and his staff! Dr. Florez and his facilities will receive our veterinary care for all of our pets going forward, and I recommend with the highest degree of confidence that you do the same for your four-legged family members. When we first started going to Quartz Mountain Everything because of Dr. Weaver and everything was great and to be fair Dr. Bourne is very caring and amazing. This office has really changed their focus from care centric to profit driven. My wife and i have a 6 year old Australian Shepherd, who has epilepsy. He has to have 150 mgs of Xonisimide 2 x per day and 1 1/2 Keppra 2 x per day. We were told we needed blood work to see how much room we had to go up in medication to lessen the frequency of seizures he was having and we were told back in april/may it was going to be around $399. then when he had another seizure in June, they told us the same test was going to be $768. When i told my wife absolutely not, they then said they would help us out and honor the $400 +. Then yesterday we called to have his Xonisimide refilled, because he only had a couple capsules left. Dr. Bourne was out of town, and the Vet tech on staff told us they couldn't do it, and suggested that the Drs' notes stated our Dog could go up in Xonismide and that since we had 100mg Xonismide that we could just give him two, which we has previously discussed with the doctor on keeping him where he is at unless his seizure frequency increased, which it hasn't . the Vet tech then said they would only fill the RX for 7 days until the DR was back in town, which mind you at a specificity Pharmacy Diamondback Drugs, charged the same amount $35 for 14 pills or 60 pills, it is their dispensing fee. So this Vet tech wants us to come in and make another appointment for something we already paid for blood testing on back in June. Additionally the Vet Tech isn't qualified to make this type of executive decision for our pets health. This is an absolute joke. When our dogs Health depends on this medicine and initially they weren't going to fill anything until my wife had given some push back. but the fact is, this place has gone down hill. I am incredibly disappointing in the Profit Driven tactics this office has now. We will no longer be coming back and i will not longer be sending any referrals this way. Read Less

As much as I like Quartz Mountain Animal Hospital there are a couple flaws I've noticed over the last few years as I've gotten more into the more rare breeds of dogs and cats that I work with dr. Boren is a great that and would be totally fine to see any of the other vets there as well they will do everything they can to help you with your pet and your human needs who care for the pets would feel very comfortable I would just also say that if you've got a rare breed or you've got a very different type of animal of or specialist base place might be better for you if you're in a pinch make sure you know enough about your animal before you bring them in there just because they're a regular vet they're not a specialist and if you need a specialist you can't blame them for not being I made that mistake the hard way before average normal day-to-day Animal Care absolutely worthwhile very well-mannered during educated doctors they're just not specialist and if they haven't seen it you can't blame for that Read Less

Dr. Bourne and the great staff at Quartz Mountain have been our family's vets for more than 20 years now.  She obviously loves what she does and is not only ultra-competent, she also consistently spends as much time as our pooches needs require.  I've even considered having them clean my teeth too! We had a great experience here. The non anesthtic cleaning was much less costly than the full anesthesia. 4 very loose teeth were removed and our little guy came our of it nicely.Definately worth going! Read Less

I am so grateful that Dr. Weaver, the original founder of Quartz Animal Hospital came out of retirement. After several recommendations from friends and research on various Vet's I decided to take my dog to Dr. Weaver. I vocalized beforehand how much I was afraid of anesthesia and wanted to make certain my dog would not have any adverse reactions to it. I have a little yorkie so I was afraid with his size he might have  a adverse reaction to it. He is so nice and took exceptional care of my dog. Dr. Weaver had to pull out a few of my dogs teeth because he had an abscess and Dr. Weaver called me to inform me why this would have to be done and of course I approved it for the overall health of my dog. He also showed me the teeth that were pulled out and the teeth that were pulled out were in bad condition. My dog had minimal downtime and he is now back to normal. My dog now has clean teeth and his bad breath is gone. Dr. Weaver is the best and he truly cares about animals. As finicky as I am he exceeded my expectations and my dog will be his forever patient! I have been very pleased with the care, and focused attention by Dr Bourne and Dr Carson as well as all the staff at this Quartz Mountain Hospital. My 13 year old weimaraner was very ill with Bowel disease and Dr Bourne has been so focused on working with me to find the right food and drugs to bring this under control.  How many vets take your dog out for a walk to see how they are doing?  I dont know if the earlier reviews were because the practice had been sold and was under new management and they were getting organised? All I can say is the charges have been extremely fair and i am so grateful i found this group to care for my old friend! Read Less

I have thought about this for a couple of days before I decided to put out a notification review. I am just sick. I am so unhappy and just plain disgusted. I wish I would have never heard of this place.In May of this year I took advantage of an anesthetic free method of teeth cleaning for my 11 year old Yorkie being performed at KOSMOS in Scottsdale. I was inexpensive ($179) and his teeth looked marvelous. I have been getting his teeth cleaned every year as yorkies are known to have congenital issues with their teeth.About 2 months later he started having really bad breath. I started cleaning his teeth with dental wipes daily and foam daily as opposed to weekly. As time went on the breath was getting worse and I could tell there had to be an infection in one of his molars in the back on the left-hand side. He was very touchy when I cleaned there. His front top and bottom teeth were rock solid and by cleaning daily I noticed no movement or loosening of his teeth. JUST the infected one in back.I had his teeth cleaned by Dr. Barnes at Del Lago last year and it was a bit expensive but I was told that all of his front teeth were stitched in to ensure they were stronger. He did a fantastic job. I so totally regret not going back there this time. I frankly do not care what it costs as long as my service dog (I am a paraplegic) is healthy, happy and will live many years to come.Since they did a good job with the anesthetic free and I like Dr. Mark I scheduled Sammy for a cleaning on October 24th. He had to go under for a full cleaning and to address the infected tooth. I was not contacted for advice or notification that they were extracting multiple teeth. They removed the infected tooth and all of his lower front teeth. I cried in the office and cry every time I look at him. There was no reason for those teeth to be removed. I would have said no had they called me.I am still so upset 2 days later that I cannot concentrate at work nor leave my apartment. I paid $510 for this butchering and have absolutely no recourse. His cute smile is gone. He has been the only reason I get out of bed most days since my motorcycle accident in 2002. I got him at 8 weeks old after I got out of the hospital. If he goes, I go, that simple.So, go to this hospital at your own risk. They should have asked me, I would have rather let them fall out by themselves or gone to a specialist for a second opinion. I live on disability and this cost and the result is breaking my heart. I am so upset. If you care about your animal like it is one of your children then avoid this hospital. Read Less

Watch Out! This place is all about taking your money. The vets are nice but will nickel and dime you for anything and everything. The office staff is disorganized and ineffective. Last time I was there they had completely lost someone's chart. Two different times, they have tried to bill me for the same procedure twice. Check your bill carefully. They also charge you ($45) to call you back with the test results of your pet. This place is ALL ABOUT MONEY! There are other competent vets nearby who care about your pet and they are not doing it for your money. Read Less
