We have been taking our fur babies to Maria for grooming for quite a while so when my poodle had a litter and one of the tiny puppys began to have problems, I called the hospital for an urgent appointment. I was so surprised when after explaining the symptoms and relaying my fear that this puppy was in trouble, the vet's assistant talked me through what to do over the phone instead of me taking the puppy away from its mother and siblings and into the hospital. She not only correctly diagnosed the problem and what likely caused it, she called back several times throughout the day to monitor the situation, all free of charge. This is a place that cares sincerely about animals and their owners. I do not trust the care of my pets to anyone else. These people are the best, and our fur babies deserve the nothing less. Recently tried to get an appointment for Dr. Ashworth to look at Buddy's ears because he wouldn't  allow us to put the medicine she prescribed in his ears any longer.  Called and explained the problem to the office staff and the best they could do was schedule an appointment for a week later.  Then I called another veterinarian and explained the problem and they were able to see him right away. When we arrived they examined his ears and immediately made a different treatment plan where they instill the medicine in his ears in two separate applications a week apart. This is obviously much less stressful for both Buddy and my husband and me.  As a result, we will no longer be taking Buddy to SCAH as the office staff there didn't recognize the obvious discomfort he was having since he wouldn't let us touch his ears and therefore they saw no reason to get him in to see Dr. Ashworth in a timely manner. I've been taking my fur babies to Sun City Animal Hospital for twelve years.  Over the years treatment for my Chi babies has come from three different vets.  All were superb.  My senior Chi, Ginger, endured two cancer surgeries there.  She passed last April two months short of her 16th birthday.  I'm convinced that the care she received at SCAH helped her to live a long and healthy life.  One of the first things a doggie lover looks for is whether the Vet really loves dogs.  (You can always tell).  The entire staff at SCAH are doggie lovers extraordinaire.  The "extra gravy" with taking my Chi, Rosie, to SCAH is that I've developed a senior crush on Dr. Pollyann Johnson.  She is such a great vet, so loving to my Rosie and always makes me feel confident that my fur baby is in good hands.  I feel so fortunate to have found SCAH upon my move to the state in 2004. I was pleased with the care my yorkie received while boarded for four nights. When I picked her up she wasn't distressed and acted calm which only told me she had been treated well. I like that I can bring her food and bed so the routine is as normal as possible. You are able to request eating schedules - something I have never been offered at other boarding facilities. The staff was friendly and professional. The fact that documented proof of current vaccinations made me feel like Ellie was protected from other boarded pets. We've used S.C. Animal H. for about 7 years and have never left thinking, "Well, that bill didn't hurt too much" The medical staff are great but their receptionists have no problem asking you to hold for 15 to 20+ minutes. We're looking elsewhere. Read Less

Had a great first visit today.  Little Lucy is a ten week old labradoodle and very healthy!  Dr  Johnson was excellent in every way.  I actually picked her because of her education and it was the definite right decision.  She along with the staff made a huge fuss over Lucy and spent a good deal of time with her.  Of course Lucy slept the entire time!  I would definitely give them a chance if you are looking for a very considerate vet! I brought my 9 yr old pug in to see Dr Ashworth because he was unable to pee. Dr Ashworth spent a lot of time examining Perry, x-rays and urine tests. She explained what was going on and why it was going on. I left feeling like she truly cared for my baby!! I have 2 more pugs that need well dog checks that I will be bringing to see Dr Ashworth! Being new to Arizona, I researched five different veterinarians in the area before I decided to bring my cat to Sun City Animal Hospital. They were by far they nicest, yet still most professional, and their facilities are second to none. I just returned from taking my cat on our first visit to see Dr. Roe, and I couldn't be more pleased. My cat appreciated the cat only waiting room and the friendly handlers. I am most pleased with the services and PAWS plan offered at Sun City Animal Hospital. Dr Ashworth is a great vet and my Nina is lucky to have found her. My girl has had gastrointestinal problems ever since bringing her home from the breeder. After prescribing the right diet and adding macrobiotics Nina and I can finally get a full nights sleep. This office provides reasonably priced services in comparison to many others in the valley. The office is extremely clean and staff professional and caring. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. We moved here from another state and went to this vet due to the outstanding review on Yelp as well as the office being a close proximity to our house. We were very pleased with the service. The front office was very friendly and seemed to enjoy talking with us and our pets. We met with Dr. Leah Ashworth. She was very good with our two dogs. They were both due for vaccinations and neither yelped or flinched when she administered the shots. She was very thorough speaking with us about dental cleanings, chipping and answered any questions we had with this being our first visit.  We did not feel rushed whatsoever. Dr. Johnson and her staff are top notch. My dogs are understandably nervous going in, but they treat then kindly and with respect. We have the Paw Plans for both dogs. Last year we had the extended plan with dental and this year rather than sell us the extended plan again, they suggested a less expensive plan. I am grateful the staff looks after my budget and not just that of the practice.I love Dr. Johnson specifically and Leticia is so very knowledgeable. Both make sure all questions are answered fully. I'm one of those crazy "dog moms" who believe that they are part of my family not simply pets to be treated as an accessory. Dr Johnson understands my feelings. I took our Yorkie, Marlee for a regular check-up and as usual we were treated cordially by the girls at the front desk. Marlee was called by name and her name was on a blackboard with other pets names coming in that day. Shortly we were greeted by a Tech who couldn't have been nicer to Marlee and then Dr.Johnson came in the room and did a thorough exam. We have been going to this clinic for many years and have never been disappointed, our pets are treated with loving kindness and professionalism. We are new to the area and had not found a veterinarian yet. We found us in a spot where we needed a vet ASAP I googled and found this particular that Sun City Animal Hospital was very close to our house so I thought we would start there.  Jessica was very helpful on the phone and was able to get us in the next morning for a visit. Dr. Roe was very informed of our dogs medical condition and also very helpful. Our dog Zona seemed to really like her.  I am very comfortable going to them. I used to love this place, there weren't enough good things to say about Dr. Johnson and Dr. McAlister. Dr. Roe is a different story though--absolutely no bedside manner and won't hesitate to talk down to you and make you feel like a horrible pet owner if you don't do things her way. I was getting my car serviced two doors down, sitting in the waiting area with my dog, and I noticed my dog was bleeding from his nail. Another customer waiting suggested I walk two doors down to this animal hospital to see if they could examine my dog's nail while I was waiting on my car. I walk into the hospital holding my dog, and the employee sitting at the counter didn't acknowledge me at first. When she finally did, I told her that my dog's nail started bleeding while I was two doors down. She reached over the counter and grabbed his injured paw. He cried. I pulled him away so she wouldn't hurt him and asked if anyone could take a quick look at him since I was waiting on my car and couldn't take him anywhere else for the time being. She seemed annoyed and put me in an examination room with some paperwork. After I filled it out, she returned and said nobody had time to look at him and sent me on my way with a flyer for Emergency Animal Clinics. It's totally okay and makes perfect sense that they couldn't take my dog at such short notice, but in no way is it even remotely acceptable to grab my dog's injured paw over the counter. We have used this vet since we moved here in 2005, and have gone through a number of doctors.  We had Dr. Dawson, Dr. Flick, Dr. McCallister, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Dutson and now Dr. Ashworth.  All of them have been very good with our cats, and the service has been excellent.  They were very sympathetic when we had to put down 3 of our cats over the years, and sent us cards after the deaths.  Since the purchase, they have changed staff almost completely and the number of doctors and techs seem to have diminished, but that may just be an effect of the recession.  We currently go to Dr. Leah Ashworth who is very nice and concerned for the health of our pets.  My only real complaint is that they did away with the separate cat area and combined it into one waiting room.  It can get scary for cats there when there are a number of loud dogs in the room.  Hours have extended but the wait time is still pretty good.  Most of the doctors who have left have either retired or went part-time for family reason.  The overall atmosphere is very nice and the prices are comparable to other practices.
