My cat is diabetic and was incredibly ill when I arrived into town in late 2015. I googled vets and chose this vet because the name. What my cat and I experienced was anything but gentle and caring. I was spoken to so harshly, that even now, two years later, it concerns me enough to speak up about it. I remember the vet raised her voice and aggressively asked if I was even listening to her... I don't think she had patience for my tears. They told me my cat was not as bad as I imagined, and said to take it home and return it to it's usual insulin dose. The next morning, I feared the worst and found another vet who immediately hospitalized the cat and said he might not live through the day. It took weeks to nurse my cat back to health, and my cat is probably only alive today because I found another vet. This clinic had no gentleness or caring for me or my cat. Shame on them. Read Less

Glad i found them! My other vet always tried to sell additional products, vaccines, and procedures...not the case here. They even reminded me that i didn't need a check-up with the vet on top of the rabies vaccine since i had my dog there in May (I completely forgot we were there that recently), which saved me time and money on a check-up that wasn't needed as my dog is as healthy as a horse! This place was fine for what it was when we didn't really need anything. It's simple and no bells and whistles, and that's fine. My former vet was all about the animals and her employees always had to remind her that someone had to pay for it, so she'd have to scale it back, sometimes. I never had an issue with it, because my dogs are like children, but I can see where some people wouldn't want to shell out the money.I moved to Tempe anyway, though, and needed a new vet. This place is right by my house, and like I said, they did the job.When the job was simple.Maybe for puppy shots, updated vaccinations, spaying, etc. It's fine, but I get the sense that this vet is either too laid back or too undereducated or experienced to deal with anything bigger than that. And the staff and she don't seem to care about what they put in charts. Why weigh a dog every time if you're not going to look at previous weights?Our dog has something seriously wrong with her, right now. Maybe it's old age, maybe it's a parasite, we don't know! That's why we went to the vet and asked why she is trembling, panting, and losing weight. In the span of 6 months and 3 weigh-ins, she has lost 20lbs. TWENTY POUNDS. She started at 55 and she is now 38. At her last weigh-in, the vet tech told us her weight and didn't seem to care. We asked follow up questions and got nothing helpful. We were told we would have to set up another visit to assess the weight, which is crap, because we have been asking about this since the beginning and she told us it was likely old age. Well 20lbs and 6 months later is not old age. A significant regression in 3 months, in particular, is not old age.Needless to say, we are going elsewhere. The people are nice enough, but they are too lax if you ask me. It just didn't seem like anyone cared enough to look into things, particularly the significant weight loss. My dog looks like a skeleton and we are told to just feed her more. We cater to her food consumption, at this point. We are not idiots. It is not working. I just feel like I'm talking to a bunch of hippies who are stoned and just can't seem to muster up the energy to care or try to figure anything out. I wish I could go here, because it's right by my house, but my dog's well-being is worth too much to me to continue going here. Read Less

HORRIBLE. The vets were so rude. My dogs ear was swollen shut and the vet gave me 3 options.. Leave it, give prescription which don't always work apparently or have surgery to pop it and seal it shut. I asked about surgery and if she could do it today because if the lump pops my dog could die and she said no because it is 4 in the afternoon and she is tired... What?! To make it even better, she told me that my dog "needs a lot of work" and didn't really care to help her. After having my dog for 2 years and doing EVERYTHING and ANYTHING in my ability to make sure she is ok that is not what I needed to hear. All she wanted to do was talk about my dogs skin and not come up with solutions. My friend (not even the owner of my dog) who was there for moral support went on her phone for a second and the vet stopped talking, stood up and said if we want to sit on our phone she will get our bill and we can go. MY FRIEND WAS THERE FOR SUPPORT. I was sitting there listening the whole time. When she left, my friend and l left and told the front desk how rude she was. Obviously this lady cared more about her ego more than helping my dog that apparently "needs a lot of work".Gentle care animal hospital, it may be time to rethink some of your vets. There are people out there who care about animals more than the people you hired who just care about money. Read Less

We just got a new puppy!!!  Yay!  With a new puppy comes a lot of responsibilities.  There are exams, shots, pee puddles, chewed household items, and more to deal with.  Though I can't help you with the house issues, I can recommend a nice vet that's located in Tempe - Gentle Care Animal Hospital.  So, as I'm a researcher by nature, I started reading online and calling up vet offices as soon as I got the pup.  I was comparing details like price, schedule availability, things they recommended over the phone, and online reviews.  Some other pet hospitals were almost twice the price for an initial puppy visit and shots! And Gentle Care offers the same prices as the Petco Shot clinic on all vaccinations and treatments I checked out... except the microchip, which is slightly more expensive here. And needless to say, the online reviews were great, making Gentle Care the best reviewed economical choice I found.Scheduling was easy - we only had to wait two days for first available appointment - not bad!  Once we arrived, the vet was clear, direct, and didn't try to oversell me services.  The staff was friendly.  We'll be back for the rest of our puppy shots and a lifetime of care.See ya there! My daughters and I have been taking our dogs and cats here for 7 years. My daughter's cat broke her hip and Dr. Capwell did surgery and 7 years later her cat is doing great. My other daughter's dog has had skin issues, allergy testing and several skin tumor removal surgeries. Dr. Capwell has treated him each time with care and compassion even sitting on the floor with him and giving him loving. She is the best vet we've had. She truly loves our animals and treats them conservatively and doesn't require every test under the sun if that is not what we want. We have 7 dogs and 4 cats between us so we don't always want to get every test done if not necessary. We have been to other vets and Dr. Capwell's prices are the same or less than other vets. After taking my dog, Booda, to a different vet first and being very unsatisfied and unhappy with them, I found Gentle Care Animal Hospital and took my Booda there. I am a student at ASU and just recently adopted a little Lynx-Point Siamese kitty. I was worried because she had itchy ears so I took her here for her first vet checkup. I was nervous because I have never been to the vet before and I was worried that it would be costly and stressful. The vet tech, Crystal was so nice to my kitty and even opened up an examination room for me earlier than my appointment because my kitten was having a panic attack in my car after she escaped from her carrier. I had to carry her in to her appointment and they saw her immediately. They were gentle and examined her professionally. They even let me come in to their lab area so I could see the ear mites under their microscope! They made our visit comfortable and quick. I can sense that the employees at this animal care center really have a passion for animals. Since I was a first time cat owner, they taught me how to properly hold a cat and also trim her nails. To top it off my vet bill was much more affordable than I thought it was going to be. Overall, I would ABSOLUTELY recommend to anyone with cats (or dogs). Worst vet experience ever. Don't take your dog here unless your ready to put him in a muzzle and get lied to and waste your time. I made a apt to check my dogs hip. As soon as the assistance walked in she made me put him in a muzzle. I have been to two other vets in the past 3 days and no one else wanted a muzzle on him. Then after 15-20 min time they tell me the X-ray machine is broke and they don't know when it will be fix. When I made my apt I told them another vet had old x-rays and could they contact the vet and get copies, they said sure. When I got there they had not contacted anyone and acted like they never heard of x-rays before. I thought I was in the twilight zone. I drove over an hour each way to get there. You think they would have called me and told me the x-ray machine was broke. I had a talk with Dr. Capwell and I said if I went somewhere else and get x-rays could she use those to give a estimate for surgery and she said sure. I went to another Dr. and got X-rays and then called back and I was told that they would rather I take my dog elsewhere. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME!! USES MUZZLES! Read Less

From the moment you meet Karen, the front office receptionist to meeting Dr. Capwell your experience will be a pleasant one. This is an office that cares. No rushing you out the door. No in and out service but actual listening to your concern and telling you the best possible way to handle it without costing you an arm and a leg. This doctor cares so much for animals she even created a rescue called NURDS & BIRDS pet rescue which is where we adopted our little Cubby.
