Rita Ranch Pet Hospital

As I read some of the reviews criticizing the suggestions for testing, the prices, etc. I have to comment that we have been taking our cats Mikazuki and Samson to Rita Ranch Pet Hospital since we arrived here in 2012 and have NEVER been pressured into tests. Bella joined our family about 3 years ago. In fact, we have often asked for tests, and they have not recommend we do them based on the situation. When they have suggested courses of treatment, there was no pressure. They, like most quality Vets, print out a list of treatment that contains what they will do, and might have to do depending on what they find. This is to let us know what the costs could be and we sign that we do want treatment. I have never had Dr. Krauss or Dr. T pressure us like "used cars salesmen" or made us feel guilty. Some people take things differently than others. That can happen when we are told something about our children or pets. As far as being accidentally charged, that could happen by mistake, so contact them and get it refunded. When we first moved here, Mika had something like coffee grounds coming out one ear. She is an indoor only cat, so not mites. We went to another Vet in the area who did not look at the residue under a scope or test the residue, said it was ear mites and gave ear drops. I knew this was wrong and went to Rita Ranch Pet Hospital within the week. The different in professionalism was night and day. They did testing and Mika had Papilloma Virus warts or tumors behind her ear drum. We were referred to specialists at SW Veterinary Specialists. They did a scope, had never seen anything like it, consulted national experts and treated her with Interferon. She recovered and is fine. The alternative would have been an ear-ectomy or worse. We were prepared and able to pay for it. Understandably some people cannot. Later Mika and Samson developed digestive issues. Everyone's health went bad after arriving in the desert. Their care has put them on the right track. They provide a higher level of Veterinary care, with national accreditation. You get what you pay for. I trust no one else. Read Less

Took my dog in for some behavior issues. The doc didnt address much of the issue I was actually there for but tried to have us do a lot of unnecessary testing. Then after everything we were told to rehome our dog. Horrible experience. Read Less

We have been taking our dogs here since the opening. They have an excellent, caring and competent staff. Our youngest (an Eglish Bulldog) has epilepsy. The doctors made sure we understood the complications associated with this condition. It was almost a year to reduce her seizures from multiple times a day to where we are today--1 every 4 to 5 months. Thank you Dr. Krauss & your entire staff! You folks are outstanding in your practice, its very hard to find people with such high ethics and regard applied to doing an excellent job. We appreciate everything you've done for us so very much. Especially when we called in that we were on our way to you( Levi having been struck by a Rattler), you directed us to another specified outfit immediately, being sure they had antivenin and all necesaties to save him. At that time There were many animals bitten and hard to find antivenin. Y'all new this at the drop of a hat, That's staying on top of your job!! I would highly recommend Rita Ranch Pet Hospital, I just moved here and my dog had scratched his eye. They took us in immediately and there was no wait time when we got there. They inspected his eye and determined what was wrong. They prescribed him drops and then we had a follow up, when we had our follow up we once again were seen right away. They checked his eye out and suggested a second medicine. The next time we went in his eye was completely healed and they were fantastic with him. The entire staff is so friendly and kind. They treated my pup like their own and they were all so nice. Every time I came in they would call the next day and make sure everything is okay with my pup! I highly recommend them! Read Less

I have been taking my two cats to RRPH since I moved here 11 years ago...and they are the best of the best. Dr. Krauss is the most compassionate and caring Dr I have ever met. Her compassion shines throughout the entire staff. I have spent a lot of time there with one of my animals who is chronically ill. I'm able to get an appt within a reasonable timeframe. I have complete confidence and trust in the Drs. I NEVER feel like they order unnecessary exams. I always feel well informed of what they are going to do, why and what the plan is.  The entire staff at RRPH is absolutely wonderful. Some practices are in business just for the business...and then there are those who genuinely care...They Genuinely Care. I brought my new puppy to the pet hospital after reading reviews on yelp! What a wonderful experience we had at the office. They gave my girl a great puppy exam and her first series of shots. I love this pet clinic. I had a bit of a scare with my new puppy a few weeks back and I called, I am sure sounding very worried, and they squeezed me in that day to have him seen. They were all very nice both the staff and the veterinarian. Extremely reassuring and gave great advice. I called there today asking about driving a long distance and what I should give my little guy since he gets a wee bit of motion sickness. The lady on the phone helped me with all my questions and even gave me a great tips I hadn't thought of at all. Definitely recommend to any and all pet owners. They are amazing! Read Less

I have visited this vet and seen a few different doctors for my dog who has severe allergies that affect her skin. Every time I was there I felt like I was having unnecessary treatments pushed on us that were only temporary fixes and they were pushing things we weren't even there to be seen for like heart worm checks, etc. I felt like they were just in it for the money they could take from us. At our last visit we FINALLY saw a doctor who was wonderful and who prescribed a medication that actually worked long term for my dog. This medication was $160 for a 45 day supply. That is EXPENSIVE but you know what, I paid it because I care about my dog. Long term medication meant that I wouldn't have to go back every 3-6 months for steroids and exams to treat her aggressive allergies. So to no surprise when it came time to refill her prescription they refused and required an unnecessary "well exam" so they could look at her and say oh she looks great but we need to now check her for this and that.. then yet again take some more of our money. My dog reacted extremely well to the medication and I wish these people were more in it for that simple fact. If you want a team of vets that are going to work for your animal and not for their pockets this is NOT the place to go. The only reason I gave them so many shots is because of the "convenience" in the location because I live in Rita. Will NOT be visiting them again. Read Less

I took our new puppy, Chewie, in for his first visit to a vet today!  What a fantastic experience!  Everyone at the Rita Ranch Pet Hospital was​ awesome!  The atmosphere was happy and welcoming.  Throughout the whole exam, even the shots, Chewie was happy, not one whine or cry.  And the prices are very reasonable.  So happy to have such a great veterinarian in our community! Took my dog in for a check up shortly after adoption. They noticed a slight lump on his elbow, explained a few things of what it could be. I told them I'd keep an eye on it and would call if it didn't disappear in a few days. They then told me they wanted to take him into the back to receive his rabies vaccination. I allowed that. They came in while they had the dog with a proposed bill, including a biopsy of his lump. I declined the charges. They told me to write a note and sign at the bottom. I did. THEY STILL DID THE BIOPSY AND CHARGED ME! I got the charges dropped, but was very frustrated with the underhandedness. Also, my dog has social anxiety (fine with dogs of all ages and people of all ages but pees or barks if he gets nervous) NEVER pees in my house and yet both times I've taken him in, they coo over him and hover until he panics and pees all over the floor, they then look at me like it's my fault. Will never return to this location. I felt they were disrespectful and don't listen. Read Less

I called and was lucky enough to get a same day appointment!  My pet had an eye injury so we had hoped to get him in quickly.  They were wonderful and my very finicky, anxious dog even ate all the treats he was given.  I have already recommended them to a friend.  I especially like that they do not seem to keep pets in the waiting room as they get you back in a room quickly.  They were very thorough and not overpriced Read Less

It was my dog Jumanji first visit to a Veterinarian and Rita Ranch Pet Hospital is the best . They treated Jumanji like Royalty. I recommend all who live in the Vail and Rita Ranch area to bring your pets here. We just had an excellent experience at the vet! Dr. Thongkam was very patient and informative. She took the time to explain all of our options, considering cost, potential side effects, and overall causes. Their mission is to educate, and they certainly did with thorough explanations and even instructional videos on how to administer medication. We left with tons of pamphlets explaining the diagnoses and possible environmental factors that could affect our dogs negatively. The vet techs Jackie and Amber are also very friendly animal lovers.Tomorrow they'll be hosting a free Santa photo op for pets, with dog food donations for the humane society suggested. My two Boston Terriers have been under the care of Dr. Krause for over three years and Dr. Throngkham since she joined the practice. Both vets are highly qualified and experienced with the care of my pets. Their diagnosises of issues my dogs have had have been right on target and the treatments prescribed have gotten my dogs back on the road to feeling better. I have never had to wait too long for an appointment and have gotten an appointment quickly if my pets have been really sick. After each appointment, I have received a follow up call to check on my pets. No other vets I have used in the past have ever bothered to call to check on how my dogs are doing. I find it nice to go to a business and have the staff remember who you are and the names of your dogs! At this office you are not just a number. I agree with another review that stated that Tucson is very lucky to have this professional veterinary business and I do not plan to take my dogs anywhere else, even though I drive an hour to take my dogs to this business for excellent care. I adopted my Envy from a pet rescue last year here in Tucson and her first visit and dental surgery were at Rita Ranch Pet Hospital. She had the best treatment there. Since I am back out here in Tucson visiting family I decided to have her yearly shots and exam done at Rita Ranch again due to the wonderful treatment she received last time...I wasn't disappointed. I want to thank all the staff for helping Barb and I help Miss Topeka today. It is never a easy to have to make the decision to say good bye to your shadow and best friend. While traveling in the Tuscon area our dog was suffering from dry, flakey skin. She was itching constantly and was miserable. We called Rita Ranch and made an appointment the next day. Before we arrived they had called our home veterinarian and had her records transferred.  Dr Thongkham was wonderful. She was very knowledgable about our dogs condition and recommended a change of diet, a fish oil supplement, an antihistamine and a new shampoo. The office staff were friendly and caring and even called the next day to see if we were able to get the recommended items that they did not have in stock. After some comparative research, we selected Rita Ranch Pet Hospital based on the information we found on its website. It was apparent that the veterinarians, assistants, and staff were knowledgeable, skillful, progressive, and most definitely animal lovers. Our first visit with our recently adopted puppies, Sugar and Spice, did not disappoint us. In fact, we were even more impressed with this facility after meeting Dr. Krauss and observing how she interacted with our puppies in a caring, comforting, and experienced manner. Also, we appreciate the convenience of email and text message reminders of upcoming appointments as well as the post-visit follow-up calls to check on Sugar and Spice. My first encounter with Rita Ranch Vets was to put down our 18 year old Westie Samantha.  We had just moved to the area and didn't know where to go and our situation was an immediate need.  The staff was very professional and caring.  They gave us as much time as we needed with Samantha before we let her go.  They walked us through everything and made sure Samantha and my family were taken care of.  Since, they have always been thorough with my other 'kids' exams and answer all of my questions.  My only suggestion is to  do a free nail trim during annual visits. We moved to the area two years ago and asked for recommendations for a local vet.  We were time and again directed to Rita Ranch Pet Hospital.  We took our aging cat and two dogs to Dr. Krauss for various ailments, from itchy skin, to more serious weight loss in the aging cat.  Each time we were treated with respect and given all the information to make an informed decision regarding treatment.  We were also given recommendations for pet sitters as well as emergency care locations for after hours care.  The prices are reasonable as well and they always try to get me in on short notice for emergency situations. I can't believe I haven't written a review for these guys yet.  My boyfriend has two dogs and a cat who all get checked out by Dr. Krauss and staff.  His cat had to have teeth removed and one dog recently was diagnosed with cancer and went through surgery.  Through everything, all the staff here have been amazing with the animals, making sure to make them as comfortable as possible and checking in with us periodically to see how they're doing.  They also are great with community outreach and are the place to go if you find a stray to check for a microchip.  They'll take a picture and put it in their office as well as post on their Facebook page to try and find the owners.The only reason I'm not giving them 5-stars is that they can be rather expensive.  After going through two surgeries with our pets, I'd suggest pet owners look into a pet insurance company to off-set any future costs. That being said, Rita Pet Hospital is very upfront with costs, and also offer several options to help make it more affordable if it's an issue.  They also make a point not to pressure you into any decision making and I've never experienced the guilt some vets lay on to get you to agree to more expensive treatments. It's a very pleasant experience as far as vet visits go. To offset some of the price, we generally go to a shot clinic to get their annual vaccinations and save the trip to the vet for check-ups. I think this vet is extremely knowledgeable and we really trust her opinions.  Our dog has been going there since the second day we got him at 8 weeks old.  Everyone at the clinic was extremely nice and has helped us through a lot of his problems when he was a puppy.  She has even called to check up on him after we took him to the emergency vet hospital when he was a pup.  Our dog is now 2 and he LOVES to go to there.  I highly recommend her and her staff!!!On a side note, there was one person we didn't care too much about at the clinic a while back, but that person has since moved on, so yay! Someone had told me not to take my puppy here because they gave them a check-up each time they go. All I could think was, "Huh? That's what I want". I felt like the first time I took my baby to the pediatrician . . . just loaded with questions utterly convinced that I was doing every possible thing wrong. Everyone from the receptionist to the assistants to the veterinarian were so incredibly nice. We talked for the longest time about all the explanations, advice and recommendations they could give me. They tried making Badger as comfortable as possible while he was having his exams and vaccines. While we were talking, the doctor had a seat on the floor in order to talk and play with Badger at the same time. She absolutely won me over with that. You can really tell when a person loves animals and cares about their profession. Badger received so many strokes, kisses, treats and "good boys" there that I think he's been expecting a bit more love since we got home. You'll excuse me now, I have a puppy I need to go spoil.
