Park Centre Animal Hospital has proven to be the reliable, cost-effective, friendly vet that we've been looking for in Alameda. When we adopted two kittens from the Contra Costa Humane Society we were required to use the vet associated with that shelter. That proved, very quickly, to be a bad idea on many fronts especially considering that we had to drive to Walnut Creek several times within the first two weeks. We decided to go rogue and found PCAH on Yelp. During the first phone call I felt a sense of relief with all of the appropriate questions being asked as well as the friendly tone of the person I was speaking with. I've been taking my cats to Park Centre since 2001. The level of care is excellent and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. As with all good vets, they tend to be expensive . . . but the work they do is solid. They DO tend to want to over-vaccinate but they do take no for an answer. They also push Hill's products too aggressively. Science Diet is the worst pet food on the planet, IMO. Also they refuse to give 18 month Care Credit promotions on high amounts. Terrible terrible service. They didn't notify me that my dog was due for a vaccine, I found out from my groomer. That wasn't even the first issue just the last straw. Another time I took my dog in for an exam and the next day she went to the groomers and the groomer was the one to tell me my dog had an ear infection. I have the best groomer who really cares. This place is too expensive for them to not keep me updated on my dogs medical needs. Don't waste your time with them when you can find a vet who actually cares about animals. Read Less

Very friendly staff and thorough care but much too overpriced. I expected that I'd spend a bit more than other veterinarians that I'd been to, especially being that it's located in Alameda.. but I didn't expect to be sneakily nickel and dimed. $400 to diagnose and prescribe antibiotics for mild giardiasis-- which seemed to be a lot for such a common and easily fixed problem-- but that wasn't what rubbed me the wrong way. At the end of my appointment, I was asked if I would like for them to explain how to clean my puppy's ears before I left. I said sure (why not?) however, while briefly going over the list of tests and costs, I noticed "Ear cleaning demonstration $40." I quickly explained that I had no idea I would be charged and that I could surely research the matter on my own. She mumbled something and then told me they'd just go ahead and do it free of charge. It was extremely simple. I was also charged $60 in advance for another fecal test that didn't need to be performed for a month? We never even returned the prepaid sample because my pup was his usual self in no time and I feared being charged for more unnecessary testing. We did receive quality medical care but I couldn't help but feel that they tried to squeeze every penny out of me. The extra costs seemed deceitful. I wish they would've been more upfront about their prices and the necessity of the tests, meds and services being performed. Read Less

Everyone here is just amazing, we have been taking our cats there for years and recently our baby Izzy had to be put to sleep because of Kidney failure and I can not say how amazing they were. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff that sadly puts dollars before care. I took my dog there for three years and was always recommended the most expensive treatment. After questioning, we'd settle on more practical treatments that worked fine. Unneeded shots appropriate for dogs in rural areas were often recommended. I brought dog in for ear infection. I and my wife looked carefully for a thistle or something. There was nothing but redness. Vet disagreed and put dog under to remove obstruction. Nothing was found, but I was charged full price anyway. These policies built them a beautiful new facility. Read Less
