I have been taking my cats to Codornices Veterinary Clinic for ten years now. They are professional, kind, and effective in their treatment of animals. The people at the front desk are fantastic and well informed. For a while they had a cats only clinic; I don't know if they still have it, because usually when I make an appointment, I am in a hurry, so I can't wait for the special cat space.... I just go with the earliest possible appointment. They are a popular clinic, so occasionally it is difficult to get in. But otherwise I am very happy with the responsiveness and treatment of my cats. An all around wonderful vet clinic. We've tried a few other vets in the area, and this one is the best. Had a great experience getting our cat neutered here. Also took both our cats in for a check up last week. Staff are friendly and professional, and appointments are prompt and stress free. Our vet spent time with us to ask if we had questions, explained and educated us on everything, listened to our wants and concerns while providing her professional opinion. She was open to skipping certain shots given out cats are indoor, and we never felt pushed into anything. Strong recommend. Read Less

I have come to Codornices for over 10 years and with multiple dogs. Service has always been kind, patient, and respectful. When it came time for my little Rosie to pass on from bone cancer, Dr. Grant came to our home and sat with us for well into an hour, listening to stories, letting us cry and say goodbye to her. Afterwards, I received a kind and heartfelt note and he had made a donation to a rescue shelter in her name. These people care deeply about animals and the people who love them. Read Less

I have brought several animals to Cordonices over the last 10 years. I have had two very high maintenance rescue dogs during that time as well as 2 lower maintenance dogs and I have always received superlative compassionate care. Yes sometimes you have to wait but that is because the vets care so much and spend a lot of time with you. I am a (human) physician so am well acquainted with the trade off between quality care and just pushing patients through because of a busy schedule. I completely trust that the veterinarians here will be thorough and have my animals' best interest at heart. Read Less

Dr. Grant came to our home to put our cat, Thomas, down. I didn't know what to expect but could have never imagined Dr. Grant making something so sad, positive and memorable. Positive in the sense that he empathized with us and memorable in that he let us take our time saying good-bye to our beloved. About six months later my cat of ten years, Ninja, needed care so I made a point to have her seen by Dr. Grant specifically. He supported my ultimate decision to put her down instead of moving forward with surgery because cancer is so painful and I believed the tumor in her intestine was just that. I had doubts later that day after putting Ninja down without having attempted surgery and he made a point to return my call on his personal time, I believe. Dr. Grant is such a good man. I'm hoping he reads these reviews one day. Read Less

I can't tell you how grateful I am to have been referred to Dr. Grant. He is a unique and special person for sure, and a vet that makes me feel more comfortable than any I've met. Perhaps it was because he was in our home on a rainy evening, but I can imagine anywhere you meet this man he is fabulous. Five stars isn't enough - because there is a feeling about this man that goes beyond. Our cat went into quick decline (17 1/2 years old) but not obvious like with our others, who had specific conditions. I had never met Dr. Grant but talked to him by phone to discuss what the situation was like. His voice, his advice, everything about that conversation made me know he was the person for the job - to come to our house when it was time to euthanize our cat. When he did come - which was on a Friday night (that alone is amazing) - he was gentle, kind, supportive, non-rushing, etc. We spent about 1 hour discussing the situation. We were with Cricket the whole time, Dr. Grant observing while my husband had to go through all the motions of being willing to let go of our buddy, our first kid. Dr. Grant never pressured us to do anything, but in the end helped us know for sure it was time. The whole process of euthanizing a cat was very interesting (my first). I'd been through watching my cat die to sending another cat to the vet and not being able to be there as it happened to being 3000 miles away when suddenly another close one had to be taken to a clinic be a family member for us (that was very hard). This was a very peaceful, loving experience, petting Cricket the whole time, bonding, while knowing that the gentlest, kindest, must supportive vet was by our side. Gentle confidence. Read Less

Dr. Gurley helped us say goodbye to our new cat of 3 months.  She diagnosed MyTi with FIP, a fatal disease.  She prescribed some drugs to reduce the inflammation and was thoughtful in answering our emailed questions beyond the office visit and lab tests.  She shared our joy when MyTi was a bit more perky as we cared for her at home.  Eric, a receptionist/vet tech there helped us out when we had difficulty inserting the syringe to give her needed fluids at home.  But the day came, 20 days after diagnosis, when she needed to be euthanized.  We were so amazed that Dr. Gurley attended to this procedure herself.  Not a tech to do this job, but the vet herself.  She was caring, compassionate, informative, and fully present to our sadness. What a kind person and excellent vet she is.  Thank you. Read Less

The staff at Codornices are some of the most caring and passionate people we have ever met. Our cat had a huge number of health issues, from FIV to worms to scary balance issues, and Codornices was always able to see her at basically a moment's notice, it was incredible. Once we were at the office, Eric and the rest of the staff at the front desk were always extremely kind and able to answer any questions we had about best practices as far as food, litter, and cat health. Eric always managed to remember every minute detail of our phone and email correspondences, and of our cat's health history, which is truly mind-boggling given how many animals we would see go in and out of the office who Eric also had this same level of knowledge about :D Dr. Grant saw our cat several times, and he always went to great lengths to really listen to what we had to say, to inspect the cat's physical symptoms as gently as possible, and to explain to us the full range of what types of underlying issues could be leading to these symptoms. He then always took our preferences fully into account before giving advice as to potential treatments, medication, etc. that could help. Finally, when it came time for things like shots or blood work, Dr. Grant really made it as painless as possible for the cat. At our last appointment, for example, we barely even noticed that he had administered the rabies shot we'd asked for because the (normally very fidgety) cat hadn't made a peep! I'm not sure what else to say besides, as 25-year cat owners at many places throughout the US, Codornices is no question the best vet we've ever had. Thank you Eric, Dr. Grant, and the rest of the wonderful staff at Codornices! Read Less

Dr. David Grant has been a godsend to my 2 cats and I. He works at Codornices (the best vet hospital in the Bay Area) and he also does house calls. He's treated both of my cats for a few years and really understands their unique personalities, medical needs and of course, what makes them tick;) They ARE cats after all- what cat likes to be poked and prodded by a vet? He's done major dental work on both cats, just recently on one of them who had a bad reaction to the narcotics he was given. I was very concerned about my cat's aggressive behavior to me and the medical symptoms he was showing and Dr. Grant immediately alleviated my concerns by explaining exactly what was happening and how to keep my cat calm and safe until the narcotics got out of his system. Did I mention he returned my phone call at 9pm, obviously, way after office hours. Such a kind and committed doctor. Besides being amazing with cats he is also amazing with people. Very thorough and easy to talk to. He takes all the time you need to answer any questions and doesn't rush through exams even when I know he's really busy. He is a stellar doctor and I would highly recommend him to anyone. And the fact that he does house calls makes him all the more awesome! Read Less

Dr. Grant is fantastic.  He has been taking care of our two cats for several years now, and he has been just great.  He has treated them through illnesses, tooth removal, and the like. His big advantage is that he will make house calls, to come to your house and treat your pet.  This is great; one of our cats has always had a really tough time travelling to the vet (it is traumatic for her), so the fact that Dr. Grant makes house calls has been just wonderful.  A much better experience for us.Dr. Grant is thoughtful, explains what he is doing clearly, and he makes you feel that he'll spend as long as you want to talk through any medical issues your pet may be facing.  He's been quite good with our cats, with a system that works well for keeping their anxiety low.  Also, I really like that he is understanding of my preference to avoid unnecessary drugs for our cats and happy to explain the risks and benefits of each treatment.Overall, just a fantastic experience.  He's pricey, but if you can afford him and are looking for someone to make house calls, I can highly recommend him. Dr. Grant has cared for our two dogs and two cats over the past few years through house calls. He's been kind, thoughtful and resourceful in dealing with their health issues. Our beloved cocker spaniel developed cancer several years ago, and we decided against the aggressive treatment (radiation and chemo) suggested by a local specialist, since she was already 10 years old and it would have been too expensive for us as well. The specialist gave her around 6 months to live. Dr. Grant suggested and alternative approach that was financially feasible (simply removing the visible tumors), which combined with a special diet and supplements allowed her to live almost another two years! She died recently at 12, a pretty decent age for a cocker. We're very grateful for the thoughtful and resourceful care provided by Dr. Grant. Read Less

Having a vet I trust is SO important to me - if you are besotted with your dogs like I am, you'll understand - and David Grant has been my vet for years. I have three dogs and have had dogs many years. Over the years, Dr. Grant has provided both mundane and heroic care, over and over. He saved my dog, Henry, with a blood transfusion, has put down a couple dogs at home, in my arms (and those of many friends), diagnosed weird conditions, and sent me on when some of those required a specialty.Dr. Grant makes **house calls** This is the kind of medical care I wish I had for myself! It doesn't cost more than going to the office and it's less stressful for many animals.             ***Call him at his house call mobile #: 510-499-9204***I rely on Dr. Grant utterly regarding animal care. *And* he is a wonderful man and way cool. Many dog owners have recommended Codornices when it was time to neuter my male puppy. The doctor was very personable during our pre-surgery visit and his surgery was fine. The standard size cone given to my dog rubbed on his groin area as he tried to lick the area. I brought my dog back the next morning to get a larger cone. The woman behind the counter dismissed my concern and said a larger cone would drive my dog crazy. Being a new dog owner, I accepted her expertise. She was wrong, terribly wrong. The next day, my 6-month old puppy could barley move. The area was green with infection. First, I returned to the clinic and was charged $60 for antibiotics and pain killers. The next day when it appeared worse, I took him to the emergency clinic and paid more than $400 to have his infection aggressively cleansed and a new larger cone. When I phoned Dr. Hack to tell him my story, I was impressed with his concern. He said his staff was new and he would hold a staff meeting. He did not offer to reimburse me for the additional charges. He did offer the next visit's fees. Read Less

Recently I was referred to Codornices Veterinary Clinic. I am so pleased with the Vets, the Techs and the Office Staff. I have been a pet owner for 20 years and this has by far been the best experience I have had with a veterinary clinic. My animal was very ill when I first brought her in. Dr. Hack and Dr. Grant immediately saw to her comfort, then thouroughly examined her and ran tests to determine what the problem was. Both doctors spent alot of time with me personally, answered my questions and listened to my concerns. They even followed up with a phone call the next day to see how my pet was doing. Outstanding! I have come to Codornices for over 10 years and with multiple dogs. Service has always been kind, patient, and respectful.

My 10-pound terrier got his toes stuck in the tub drain during a bath. I don't know how it happened, but it seemed like no one would help except for Dr. Grant (and Broadway Pet Hospital). Although Dr. Grant wasn't prepared to make house calls today, he came over as soon as he was able, calmly administered a sedative, and he was eventually able to free my dog's foot without ramification. (Mind you, our pup had been stuck for two hours.) Dr. Grant quickly and politely left our home afterward, and I only wish he would've stayed a bit longer so we could express our gratitude for his heroic feat. Read Less

Dr. David Grant is WONDERFUL.  He's been treating our pet Dachshunds for some time now.  We started working with him originally when our female Dachshund Zoe became very ill and had to be put down.  He graciously came to our home to perform the euthanasia procedure and was very patient with us and extremely caring and understanding.  Now he is working with us by treating our male Deiter and continues to be very patient, explains things very well, cares for both the patient and the owner, and is just a joy to work with.  I highly recommend him as a veterinarian.
